The area
Address
Neighborhood: Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.

    Best cooking school in BKK
This is our 3rd visits here, its been 3 years before our last visit. I travelling to Thailand almost every year before the pandemic and had visit 3-4 different cooking class or school and found Sompong Thai Cooking school is the best one. Their school location is close to BTS station, the staff will show you to local wet market before the class. They had around 8-10 people in one class which is not too crowed. All their teachers and staffs are so nice and fun, the food was easy to make even for kids. We had spend lovely morning with them, price is very reasonable and worth it. Highly recommended to people who plan to visit BKK and look forward to go again with our next trip to Thailand.

    Great Thai Cookery learning experience.
What a great experience. Our host Fai was energetic, knowledgeable and funny. The learning was great too. We learned some different recipes for Thai cooking including making our own Red Curry Paste, Mango Sticky Rice, Thai Omelette and a Red Curry. We had a tour of the local market as well to see which herbs and spices to select, how to make and keep coconut milk, as well as choosing the right condition of fruit and vegetables. The time flew by in our session. Very enjoyable morning. Highly recommended.

Booked a morning class at the Sompong Cooking school for my 2 teen daughters and me. We loved it!

The short walk to the market with the class of 6 was so insightful. The instructor of this family owned school showed us vegetable and herb families at the market and which specific plant is used for different Thai dishes to achieve certain tastes or smells. For example, didn’t realize there are so many garlics and eggplants and how each one has a different smell, taste and texture. She also discussed how to tell if the plant is fresh or stale or picked too young and had a vendor illustrate the difference between coconut milk and coconut cream and when to use one vs the other when cooking Thai food.

Then, back to the school, where we removed our shoes, donned aprons and slippers, washed our hands and learned how to make the different dishes on the menu. Her technique of explaining and demonstrating first, and then allowing us to do it at our workstations, was very effective.

In total we made 5 delicious dishes and she provided a recipe book for us to use when we try it on our own back home.

She also reminded us to wash our hands repeatedly during the process and had a safe and effective method to taste the spice level of different dishes without double dipping. Her English was fine and her humor much appreciated. Highly recommend this experience if you want to learn how to cook Thai!

The class assembled at the school with a welcome drink before we all walked to a nearby food market. Here, our teacher explained what each item was, and how they are used in Thai dishes. We then returned to the school where first of all the teacher explained what we were going to do and how. Then the teacher demonstrated by making the dish and showing us techniques and tips before we went to our individual workstations to recreate the dish ourselves. This technique was repeated for each dish we created. Whilst we were making our dishes, the teacher and two assistants were constantly monitoring and advising us, so we never felt we were alone. At the end of the class we all sat down together to eat our own created food, together with a large amount of sticky rice the teacher showed us how to prepare at the start of class. It was very enjoyable, informative and practicable. The class lasts about 4.5 hours.

I would highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in learning about Thai cooking. The class is interactive and hands on and our teacher today Prin was amazing. So knowledgeable and willing to teach, always with a smile! The market tour, making curry paste from scratch and the whole cooking experience was incredible and the food was delicious too!

I booked the afternoon class at Sompong Thai Cooking School and was lucky enough to have Koy the owner teaching me. The class was very informative, starting with the main flavours and ingredients of Thai food. We also went through how to tell if the different kinds of herbs and vegetables are fresh when buying them at the market.

The actual cooking was fun and we made four dishes - fried rice, tom yum soup, mussaman curry and pumpkin in coconut milk. Every step was well explained and we even went through examples of how things can go wrong. I was surprised that I managed to make a flower out of a tomato which is something that I never thought I could do!

At the end of the class the food was all nicely plated to have dinner at the school. They were also very helpful to pack up any leftovers so I could take them home and enjoy them later. The icing on the cake was that we got to take home a cookbook with even more recipes to try in future.

I’ve cooked Thai food a fair amount in the past so I’m familiar with some dishes but this was a really great experience for me.

Koy is a great teacher, she adapted her class to my level of experience and she speaks good English. The class left me feeling inspired to recreate the dishes she taught.

At the market I learned a lot about the ingredients and flavour which was new to me,

The kitchen is spacious, filled with light and looked very clean and well-equipped.

It’s a family business and you can tell that they really make the extra effort to make you feel welcome. I recommend it whole-heartedly.

Our teacher Koy was so kind & knowledgeable. She took her time telling us about Thai ingredients, how to pick the best produce from markets & of course how to cook with them.
The information, techniques & useful tips I’ve gained from this class will stick with me for life.
Koy was able to cater to my dietary requirements subbing in extra veg & tofu where I could not eat meat. She even showed me how identify vegetarian condiments in locals stores, a life safer when you don’t speak the language!

I could not recommend Sompong Thai Cooking School enough. Wether you are a pro looking too try something new or a novice after a fun day out, this class is for you. Just make sure you don’t have lunch before you go, there is more then enough food too have you rolling home!

This trip was booked for 24 of us as we were in Bangkok to celebrate a family wedding. I would highly recommend this experience. Fai our teacher was brilliant at her job. She made learning about Thai cooking fun and she was great at explaining everything. We had a real laugh whilst being shown how to cook Thai food. The menu differs depending on what day you go and you get a Thai cook book to keep and take away with you. Before you even get to the cookery school they take you to the market to collect some of the fresh ingredients you will need to cook with. They explain what the vegetables and what kinds of herbs and spices you will be using and why. All in all a great fun and informative lesson and if you get Fai as your teacher you will definitely enjoy this experience as she I’d brilliant.

This was definitely the highlight of my time in Bangkok! I went in the morning so I was able to get the market tour before the class, which I would definitely recommend as it's a great way to learn about the local ingredients before putting them to use. (After the cooking class was over, I walked back over to the market to explore more, but it was pretty much emptied out, so you definitely need to catch it in the morning class).

Our cooking instructor was so knowledgable and SO MUCH FUN. She made a the class a real delight and the food we made was so good - I've already made some of the recipes since being back home! In addition to cooking, we also learned some Thai words and a little about the culture, so it was a well rounded experience. The classroom was very cute and clean as well - I can't say enough good things! Try it for yourself :-)

We had a wonderful morning here learning about Thai ingredients, cooking techniques and generally having a go at creating several dishes for a Thai meal. With 3 children aged 17, 15 and 11 it can be hard to get something they all want to be part of, but this really worked and a definite win - even for the most reluctant! Our host, Fai, was passionate, funny and highly engaging. The rest of the team were brilliant too. Highly recommended.
