Top ways to experience Patpong Museum and nearby attractions

The area
Address
Neighborhood: Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.

    No Line, just go. Excellent
The museum is very small and would make a fairly short and expensive visit if you walked through it by yourself. But he ticket includes a guided tour if you show up when there is a guide available, or is willing to wait a bit for the next tour. With a guide, this turns into a very very interesting, fun, and worthwhile visit, worth every penny. Our guide was an Italian guy, but from overhearing other guides, ALL the guides are good and add a lot of color to the visit that you would not have caught if you walked through by yourself. It comes with a drink, and the place is small and cozy enough where you can have intimate discussions afterwards about the history while having your drink before returning to the BKK heat outside.

    A Must See in Bangkok
Wow! This museum was one of the most interesting places I’ve been to in Bangkok!! It gave me an idea of what this city was like at the start of the century. Hard to imagine the Patpong red light district started out as a banana farm but our great guide, Andrea, took us through the history of the place as it morphed from banana farm, to business center, international corporation offices, clandestine CIA office, control central for the secret war in Laos, illicit drug center, magnet for rock n rollers and now an adult entertainment center. It also has one of the city’s night markets where they sell knockoffs, souvenirs, t-shirts, watches, etc. So if you visit the museum in the evening you can then take in the market. The museum has many displays of photographs, interactive displays, a video of the CIA’s secret war in Laos, memorabilia all well curated with descriptions of what you’re seeing in Thai and English. For 350 baht you get a personalized tour, great AC and a complimentary beverage. It is a small museum, maybe 5 rooms, but is packed with fascinating things and we spent about 2 hours. The time really flew and we highly recommend it. Hope you get Andrea as your guide!
Wow, thank You so much for your detailed and positive review! It makes us so happy and motivated to know that you enjoyed the museum, it’s interactive displays, the narrative from early urbanization through the CIA, popular culture and eventually a red light district. The fact that you stayed with us for 2 hours speaks volumes and puts a happy smile on us. Thank You and hope to see You again.

    Definitely worth a visit
The museum and guided tour was very interesting and well worth the entrance price and time. CIA and David Bowie....who knew? If you have an hour or two spare between visiting the usual sights, try and fit this into your schedule, you won’t regret it!
Thank You for your review and positive feedback on value for money! Looking forward to seeing you again and safe travels!

Extraordinaily interesting museum which is well worth a visit. We were lucky enough to have Andy (Andrea) as our guide. He was able to give a vivid account of the dramatic history of the road. Thank you Andy for your knowledgeable and inspiring tour! We can highly recommend anyone to pay the museum a visit.

I heard about this place from a friend and he showed me a vdo of him catching ping pong balls from the machine. When I got here it was something I really didn’t expect in a really good way. The place is filled with history and how thailand specifically Bangkok was developed, how Patpong plays a huge role in how the capital came to be. It is a whole lot more than gogo dancing and it wasn’t a sleepy street like most thing it is. I also learnt why silom Road is called Silom. We were being guided by Sakky who was an amazing guide. We met him in front of soi Patpong and actually guided us through the whole museum. Thanks Sakky!!

A large collection of memorabilia, covering the history of these few acres from the early banana plantation to the present. Static displays are well laid out and enlivened by some unusual interactive items.

This exhibition is not for the narrow-minded, with its 18+ subject matter including both the modern adult entertainment businesses and the horrors of the American War (as the Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodians would term it). Nevertheless the material is fairly presented, so you can make up your own mind, or maybe even change it.

Moreover, this is not just a dry collection of stuff, the guides walk you through the history. My visit was really brought to life by my guide Mr "Sucky" Kriengsak, who was personally acquainted with many of the personalities involved, and had a fund of anecdotes about his own interesting careers.

A visit to a new museum. The history of this area is little known, but is important to to our past. Randy, a former bar owner, was exceptional in giving us insight into the history of the area. The museum includes an X rated area not suited for children or those not willing to see what the area had offered to people of extreme taste.

A vending machine will allow you to get some exotic items.

Great exhibition of the history of Patpong. Nice details of different places and events that has happened here in Patpong over the years. The admission fee was 350 bahts and it included a tour with guide and also coffee or tea or soft drink. I can highly recommend the place if you’re interested to know how today’s Patpong came to be.

This is such a wonderful museum, detailing the history of the area of Patpong. Make sure you have a guide as the museum comes alive with the commentary from Randy our host around the museum. Takes about 45 Minutes to go around and the. Free time to try a pole dance or pictures in the cage.

More than I expected! I learned a lot about the the area and the history that is directly connected to the Pat pong area. One of the great things is that the people working there as well as the guide had first hand knowledge and are part of the history. This lends itself to a real inside view and a rich personal touch which you will rarely if ever find in other museums. The exhibits were also great and interactive. Very well done.

My visit to the Patpong Museum was like an unexpected journey with every turn bringing something new into view.
The history and wide influence of a place and story’s of the people whose history this is.
From rice paddie to international business centre during the Vietnam war to adult entertainment area, these are some of the stories.
I much appreciated the kindly enthusiasm and insights of those who showed me around,
Not to be missed 👍

This museum is both educational and great value. The tour guide was informative and hilarious! We even stopped at the replica bar mid tour for a beer and hear him jam on the piano. I came to Bangkok travelling solo and I can hands down say it was the most fun I’ve had! Thanks guys!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! 😁

I found the Patpong Museum by looking for fun things to do in Bangkok on Google. I was intrigued by how high their rating was on Google and Trip Advisor. Their rating was so good at first I thought maybe the reviews were fake! 😁

I decided to give it a try and I'm really glad I did! It was a refreshing break from visiting all the temples and it was actually my favorite experience in Bangkok so far.

It's one of the most unique "museums" I've ever been to. It was fascinating and entertaining to learn about the history of the Patpong area, Bangkok, how the CIA was involved, and all the celebrities who have visited.

I had a guided tour and it was very informative. If I remember correctly the guide's name was Alex. (Sorry if I got your name wrong!) They even have some interactive sections that make the experience even more interesting.

Best 350 baht I spent in Bangkok! If you're in Bangkok the Patpong Museum is a must see.
