An honest review- this is a dated and average show. We saw better shows in bars with a lot less budget. The dancers are so non engaging with the audience, wooden in most places and the miming is awful. The song choices (apart from the Rihanna act) are really old fashioned verging on boring. We genuinely thought about walking out but it was only an hour and we were hopeful it might improve.
The costumes are in the main tacky, especially the ‘somewhere over the rainbow dress’. Also, not sure what the point of the 3 compares were???? All they said were ‘here are the lady’s….. here are the boys’ it felt like someone just gave them a job for the sake of it.
I will finish with a question? Why was a large portion of the show men dancing? I thought we came to see a lady boy Cabaret?
We wouldn’t return.

We arrived a little late due to Bangkoks insane traffic. The show was in full swing.
It’s all lip sync which is fine. Some of the numbers were well done but some we’re really cheesy. Overall it was good but not great.
At the end the performers will want to take your photo with them - for a price.

The show was spectacular! well choreographed, dazzling and mesmerising.. 2 hours ended too fast. all the performers were fabulous! highly recommended. The night was ruined with the performers outside asking for money for photos and it was quite aggressive

Calypso cabaret in Bangkok - this might be different from Calypso Ladyboys show
Amazing dancers and great singers (English songs) with English speaking MCs
About 25 minutes from Anantara Siam hotel
The show lasts for an hour, and it is advisable to book online at 900 Thai baht - as compared to 1,200 Thai baht if you pay on arrival
I personally expected the show to be similar to Moulin Rouge or Crazy Horse or even like the tv show of British actor Danny La Rue (from many years ago)
So, to me, it was quite a letdown as lacked a storyline
Having said that, it might be a good experience for visitors who haven't seen similar shows
Some people say that the female dancers are transgender (if that word offends some readers, my sincere apologies as I cannot think of another politically correct word)

The show is staged at a low level
Of course the girls are beautiful, it’s interesting to look at them, BUT
Most of the numbers involve opening the mouth to English-language music (even without backup dancers), they themselves do not sing, and the articulation of the mouth does not fall into the words and this is noticeable, there was no wow effect
Paid 900 baht, in my opinion the price is unreasonably high
Pros:
Free drink with ticket purchase
Possibility for an additional fee to take photos with the artists after the show

We found this show uninteresting, without originality, all in parody, and bad imitation, playback. The ladyboys side doesn’t help either.
Much better was expected.
The coolest part was the arrival in the mall very alive and lit with a thousand fires.
The advice would be to arrive for the second show by boat to admire the city at night from the river.

Maybe I've been spoilt by watching too much Ru Paul Drag Race but we thought the show was quite poor overall.
We hoped to be entertained either by the show being funny or being wowed by the performance but the show lacked both. The lip syncing was really obvious and the backup dancers playing instruments didn't even pretend to play them.
The show consists of short lip syncing skits one after each other and it felt a bit one dimensional. I think the show could have been improved if the bad lip syncing skits were broken up with some other form of cabaret like stand up comedy for example.
We also found the show quite impersonal. There was no crowd interaction and even the MC's seemed to be lip synced in an american accent which we found quite odd.
Seating was hard wooden chairs which became quite uncomfortable.
There were some performers which were decent which is why we give two stars rather than one but overall for the price I think there are better activities in Bangkok to attend. In saying that, others reviewing on trip adviser seemed to enjoy the show so maybe you will too.

Just awful! I have never seen such a bad lighting, sound and many of the actors/dancers, don’t belong on the stage! Shameful for such a big name like “Calypso Cabaret”.
I have seen many similar shows around the world but this was by far the worst! Just no value for money!
Why there are OLD dancers on stage that ruin all the attraction?!?!

Calypso Cabaret was a unique and enjoyable show, with a lot of passion put in by the performers. It's a ladyboy cabaret, essentially a collection of choreographed dance numbers with lip syncing. The lighting, costumes, and choreography were good, and there was a decent amount of variety in themes and styles (from classic and jazzy, to campy, to avant garde, to humorous), and styles of music, as well... so if one piece doesn't float your boat, the next one might. And the "gender illusion" is quite impressive in some cases. I felt like it was money well-spent and worth the experience.

Is it worth booking the dinner with the show and how much are drinks?
Written November 12, 2015
I would skip the dinner, as there are so many great places to eat in Bangkok. Drinks were not expensive. One drink is included with the show ticket. Dollar for dollar, about $30-35 US, this show is definitely worth the cost.
