Not for us

Nothing unique here. Very low end merchandise and many stands selling the same things.

Street food was visually appealing, but could not pass the cleanliness test for us to eat there. Tour guide today told us what to look for and this wasn’t it.

Indie vibes are the best vibes
Dec 2018
The Indy Night Market Dao Khanong is a lesser-known market, but all the better, because it remains unspoiled by the overwhelming crowd of tourists that flock to Bangkok every year.

The moment we arrived, I knew I love the vibes already. The market was frequented by locals, and there are just a handful of tourists. The market is lined up with many stalls selling a range of products and food, from juices to fried chicken, raw crab salad to ice-cream.

What was particularly memorable was the raw crab salad, which was really tasty, but also really spicy, so use this opportunity to get yourself a juice or some Thai green milk tea. It is a little fishy though, so those who can't stand the fishy smell should stay away. Otherwise, it is definitely worth the try!

To get here, take the BTS to Wongwian Yai Station on the Silom Line. Then take a short taxi ride to the market, which shouldn't cost you much.

INDY Market is definitely worth the visit if you want a relaxing evening/night out. There are so many food options to choose from and bars to have drinks with live music.

Indy better than Artbox at Sukhumvit

This is our first visit to indy market on our 5th night in BKK.

We chanced upon this place on our way back from Hua Hin few days ago.

Food n things here are cheap. Most food stalls owners here can't speak much English. People are lesser on a Tuesday night (one day after Mum's day).

We came here for dinner around 8pm. We waited for almost 30mins for two dishes at this stall: symbol of Nagaya fortune cat @Indy DaoKhanong.

As we are waiting, it's interesting to see how this small family(3 members) run this food business. They even provide food delivery in those keep-warmth pack, similar to those cold pack!
Business is good. Food taste good. Portion is big. We ordered fried veg W roasted pork (no rice) & fried noodles. 😋

We also ordered other food from other stalls such as grilled squid; deep fried meat balls, fish cake; BBQ pork n chicken stick; rose syrup drink n orange juice.

I bought a unique Spiderman keychain, boxer shorts, phone charger cable.

We also literally "bought a keychain" from a little boy no younger than 7years old. Some follow same after us. He should be at home at this hour!

Overall, I like it here (personal view) much better than Artbox. It feels so local here. Things are cheaper here. Less crowded too.

Oh! One thing. Be graceful to throw away your food rubbish after finish eating! The place here is clean. Keep it this way!

It took us about 30mins to/fro from Silom to here. It cost us about 275bht (peak hours thru highway) n 135bht (ard 930pm). Easy to get grab here.

Recommended to come here for the local food taste. But if u r not going to eat the local food, u can still come here to chill/drinks with live music (though some singers appear off key 😂 ). There are even barber stall, nails stall, plants stall...

Wonder if there will be another influx of visitors n resulted in this market become "just another night market" after this review. ☺
Chao!

Best night in Thailand! Great to chill with the locals!

This market is great to get away from the crazy bustle of tourism that you can find yourself swept up in.

We stayed in Thonburi and grabbed a 10 min taxi to the market and were really excited by the lack of tourists, local vibe and amazing atmosphere! So different to every other market we visited.

You’ll find everything here - bars, food, nail bars, tattoo artists, fashion, tech, barbers and hairdressers!

No one speaks English here and that’s what makes the place special and local. Try using some Thai or work out a way of communicating around the language barrier!

The things we bought were slightly cheaper if not half the price than what we saw in the more touristy places.

Very local market

Typical local Thai street market. It really depends what you are looking for. If you have been to Jatujak and hope that this market would be something like that, it really is not. For me, I took 20 minutes and I was done with it.

It’s not popular place for tourists to go. If you aim to buy souvenirs and shopping, this’s not the place for you to go. If you aim for food hunting, and it might be great place for you.

Pros
1. Food is slightly cheaper than other markets. It’s very delicious.
2. May try their barber shop, their haircut (male) look great and cheap.
3. It’s very local and authentic, if you look for very own thai local market. Doesn’t have plenty of tourist come here.

Cons
1. Communication problem. Most of staff cannot speak English. If you have interpreter or friend can speak thai will be great.
2. No much souvenir or stuff for tourist, and most of thing is basic need for local people.
3. Location. It’s far from cities, take 20-30mins back to city. There will be trouble if you don’t have own transportation.

Popular local night market
Jun 2018 • Couples
We went here on advice from a guesthouse host. Indy market was full and seemed to be frequented almost exclusively by Bangkok locals. There was a mix of food stalls set up and bars with live music. There are multiple rows of food stalls, so choosing what to get was the hardest part

When in Thailand...!
Mar 2018 • Couples
The Indy night market opens at 6pm and is buzzling with activity till mid-night and well after. Along with rows and rows of stalls selling clothes, shoes and nick-nacks, there are also food stalls that sell a crazy variety of snacks and meals. Then along one end are the bars, each playing live bands adjacent to each other. These bars allow food from the stalls to be had at their tables while even serving drinks by the bottle at very nominal rates. This is mostly visited by the young locals and is so full of energy. While the shopping and food did excite us, just watching the young crowd let their hair down and not being tourist-centric made the whole experience so memorable!
