This museum stands out in many museums in Taiwan in two ways: One is that it may be the only one dedicated to Taiwanese history. Take advantage of the free volunteer led tour if you can. It also stands out in both its collection and...More

This is an excellent museum that provides an overview of Taiwan's history from prehistoric to present day. Naturally this is challenging given the politically charged topic but the museum does a commendable job. The displays are highly visual and interactive. There is also a good...More

This museum is really interesting if you want to understand the history of Taiwan from the prehistoric period to the present. I haven't seen a museum of this kind elsewhere in Taiwan. Very complete. Almost all the information are translated in English. There is a...More

Excellent museum covering the whole history of Taiwan in a very clear and entertaining way. The place is a bit far from downtown Tainan but totally worth the trip.

I visited alone on a Saturday quite recently. I thought the displays were fantastic. It was great to see the focus on Taiwan’s Indigenous history and culture as well. It is also great for kids with the intetact displays and train ride. Highly recommended.

Taiwan's history is contested! Dictatorial colonial regimes kept telling Taiwanese they were this or that. With democratization beginning in 1988, Taiwanese have been free to explore their history without official guidance. The National Museum of Taiwan History tries to tell visitors about Taiwan's complex history....More

Given a couple hours here, we probably could have spent another couple hours here to soak it all in. This museum presents a great summary of Taiwanese history. It doesn't hide the recent history of the 2/28 incident either. This is an excellent place to...More

I've visited the Museum three times, starting with its opening month. However, I've gone to and walked around the exterior multiple times during its construction and initial furnishing. To me, it's Taiwan's first real investment in the culture of Taiwan to be placed in the...More

Anping District/ Annan District
Anping District is the area first developed in Taiwan.
It is also the key to Taiwan’s involvement in the
international community. The two famous historic
monuments, Anping Fort (a.k.a. Fort Zeelandia) and
Eternal Golden Castle leave behind them the traces of
international trade made by various countries. Another
historic monument that stands the test of time is Tree
House, in which beautiful stories were created along
