Shennong was almost the only street in what was basicaly the historical core of the island to not have been destroyed by uglier development projects. It's a bit sad to have glimpse of how great buildings were at that time when you know how they are now. And as usual in Tainan, this tiny street is not even pedestrian on... More

Love this street, great photo shots. Unique shops and fantastic restaurant towards end if street near Temple. Myanmar vegetarian food, craft beer and new introduction of clothing line. There is a picnic table outside or seating inside. Definitely worth the stop. My husband said if they would cook for him everyday, he would be a vegetarian. From leather goods to... More

From what I understand, back in the day, this was the center of shopping until the larger street took over. There is a mixture of shops with several selling Chinese food items, but they are labeled in Chinese with no English translation.

Taiwanese only start their daily routine quite late, the earliest would be, say, 11am? i was there around 10ish and nothing was open. snapped a few photos and left. apparently i heard my airbnb's host saying that it will be nicer during the night. not sure?

Quaint alley with several shops selling interesting handmade and quirky items that urges you to part with your money. Would love to go back again some other day on my own if i find myself in tainan again in the future.

The place is mixed with oldies but goodies. it brings you back in the days where the streets are made very tiny and if you can visit your 50 neighbors just by walking down the block in 15mins. There's a temple at the end of the street, bars, and cats cafes. There are also antiques and small jewelry shops. Most... More

This is supposed to be the Japanese quarter but doesn't resemble too much any of the Japan i know, nor my wife and she's Japanese! Just more streets that look the same as the others. Maybe this place opens up at a certain time, we were here around 4pm, nothing happening

Years ago, maybe 15, my nephew took me on his scooter to a street in Tainan to see the old houses that had been built during the time the Japanese held Taiwan as a colony (1895-1945). I thought it was interesting, wanted to take my wife there when we had the chance, and put the thought aside. Two years ago,... More

The street located at one of the busiest block in Tainan. People can enjoy traditional Taiwanese cuisine nearby, no matter it is day or night, but I will strongly recommend folks to go there during night, since there will have lights that glowing along the street! The little shops sitting along sell small items that you could gift to your... More
