This 1.5 hour river tour was full of crocodiles right by the rivers edge and some amazing birds.
The long canoes were cool as well.
The guide from the nearby Landmark hotel has been doing it 27 years. He knows every bird and the jungle as well.
Particularly nice was the jungle walk after the boat ride.
As we were finishing the walk a large rhino appeared and walked right in front of us (about 50 meters) across the plains.
It’s another can’t go wrong tour that great for kids as well.

The mist on the river was entrancing as we were paddled down the river in dug out canoes. We had two good guides with us who knew every bird and beast, though we saw only a few due to the mist. The jungle walk back in small groups of 6 was lovely and tranquil, though again we saw little by way of animal life - it was winter which might have made the animals scarcer. All in all a couple of hours of gentle, quiet pleasure which was my favourite out of various activities we did round here. You finished the trip by crossing the river directly back to the start point on a similar canoe to the first journey. Realistically on a good day you might see the odd monkey, deer, boar, crocodile and rhino, together with lots of birds.

A river with water boat facilities makes my trip best and beautiful. I have spend my entire child life in the same place but after a long I have found it so very different and wonderful.
I highly recommend everyone to visit and feel it live.

We were very disappointed with this national park. After 3 full days we only saw one crocodile and one rhino and some birds. Do not go if you are expecting to see wildlife. If you love animals and care for their treatment you will not be pleased to see how badly chained and treated elephants are here. They would chain their 2 front legs together and completely immobilize the elephants. They were very stressed. I have traveled throughout most elephant lands, all of Southeast Asia and India, stayed at elephant camps and I have never encounter such a horrible mistreatment with working elephants. I neither have seen more than 2 tourist on an elephant chair. Here they put 4 tourist at a time. I refused to do the elephant ride. We were really disturbed.
On the other hand there were some pretty views of the river. Nothing really impressive, I come from a tropical South American country and have done safaris in Africa, this might be the reason why I was so unimpressed. The most enjoyable part was the little town. People and kids were what made this part of the trip worthwhile.

We are just leaving Nepal and have done the Chitwan National Park experiance.
The Park is ok but dont expect to see an abundance of the larger wildlife, Rhinos, Tigers, Leopards etc.
Saw only 2 Rhinos in 4 Days there and none of the cat family.
Saw a Bear but only the once.
The Elephants are treated badly and we was not happy at the way they are beaten with an iron bar thats also used to spear into there ears and neck which caused bleeding and we were witness too.
I have been too Sri Lanka and the Elephants were not treated this way when i was there on Safaris etc.
Also the way they are chained up too is barbaric and these beautiful mammals should not be treated this way.
Babies that are moved away from there mothers to make it easier to train is deplorable and the excuses are its done for there tourist industry.
So a gentle by nature animal as to suffer for humans gain.
Nepal is a beautiful country in places and the majority of the people are lovely, but i feel the government and people need much educating on all levels in some of the ways the country is run and there actions.

Just returned from a trekking adventure in Nepal. Spent 4 days at the Chitwan National Park. Saw Rhinos, crocs, and birds. Quite the touristy place. Unfortunately saw horribly treated elephants. Chained by both front feet to a pole. Used by the military 4 - 5 hours every day (leaving them chained the remaining 20 hours). The elephants are also now sold to private individuals "because the park can't keep up with the tourist requests for rides". So privately these animals are at the mercy of individual owners. Saw one person beating the elephant on the head in an area on the head that was depressed from the abuse. Horrible. I had purchased a ride prior to arriving at the park, but chose not to go on the ride.

When you board these hollowed out tree trunks and it sinks slowly towards the water level, you do wonder if you'll make it far from the bank. After all your average westerner is quite a bit heavier than your average Nepali! However once you're away from the bank the skill of the boatsman punting you down the eerily quiet river comes into its own. And that's exceedingly reassuring as your guide points out the hiding places of crocodiles before you suddenly spot the eyes and snout just a few feet away from your craft! The amount and variety of wildlife you'll spot on this leisurely glide through the park does depend on luck (rhino managed to evade me for all the time I was in Chitwan) but the sounds and sights are so different to anything you'll see at home its worth a couple of trips as no two are the same.

Soon as your group as entered the boat you'll quickly realise there is only about 3inches between the rim of the boat and the waterline, and as soon as they mention the countless crocs in the water you start to get a little worried! But you shouldn't, I made it to the other side after all haha! It's a fantastic experience even if you just include the wildlife and I highly recommend this experience to anybody in the area

This was our best attraction and enjoyment in our chitwan trip. We started early morning from our hotel with guide through a jeep. Then we entered a place where lots of canoe tide or parked.we started our canoe ride with guide. Our guide was very helpful and giving all description. We were so lucky that we saw more than 15 crocodile in this ridding. Lots of birds both side of rivers. Sound from the jungle of birds and monkey were very nice as it was early morning like 7.30 am . important thing we saw one dead buffalo was in that river and crocodile 2 to 3 crocodile was trying to pull and eat.its really scary. .It was really amazing. Must visit this place. Like to go again and again.
