Never did I think when we and some mates booked this trip to Everest base camp what exactly we would be in store for us. Riding pillion on a Royal Enfield Himalayan with my husband up front.
I have been to many places around the world and on many types of adventure holiday. I can honestly say that this completely epic trip was the best holiday I have ever been on. It ranks up there with one of the best experiences in my life. I loved every second of it.
There was unexpected weather and challenging conditions, but this only added to the experience, making it more exciting, exhilarating and pushing us all to the limit. I wouldn’t have changed any of this and it really enhanced the team camaraderie.
We rode from Kathmandu to Everest base camp in Tibet over 17 days. The places we were taken to along the way were top drawer to visit, all the different aspects, culture, scenery and most of all, people- fabulous. The unpredictability and chaos of these parts of the world only enhanced the experience.
The team on the ground who looked after us were both very professional and an absolute joy to be around. I felt like they were just some more of my mates. They ensured that all any of us had to concentrate on was enjoying ourselves. Everything else was taken care of and I never felt the need to think or worry about a single thing other than having a good time.
Prabin was our Lead guide; charismatic, professional, and super organised. He took care of anything and everything that came up. Nothing was too much trouble. He ran the team to perfection. We had Shakti(mechanic), Krishna and Hem as support/driver, Sunil (Nepal guide) Namgyal,(Tibet guide), Sanju(Tibet trip tour organiser)- there was literally someone available to cover every aspect. Each and every one of these guys were fun, respectful, knowledgable and professional. We shared much laughter with them as well as learned a huge amount about local life and culture. They took care of every need. There is no doubt that this particular group of guys enhanced the experience ten fold.
If you are looking to book a motorbike tour, want to enjoy the ride without worrying about anything but riding and absorbing local unique experiences then book this one. Thoroughly recommend!

I can honestly say that this has been a life-changing experience. We did the "Into Thin Air" tour on the Royal Enfield Himalayans. The trip really did exceed all expectations. The ride, the accommodation, the food, the lodgings, the friends and all the rest. The Hearts and Tears team is an extremely well-oiled machine and it's clear that these guys love what they do. Everything is so well planned. The fact that not one single issue was noticed and there literally was nothing to complain about just shows how hard these guys work in the background!
The trip definitely pushed my limits. It's dusty, rocky, steep, muddy, sandy, first warm, then cold, its slippery and it's super high most of the time! When you've given 110% and you've had 12 near-misses, you stop for lunch, and realize you're only getting started for the day...
This is the best thing I have ever done in my life, no lies. Highly recommended to get on your bucket list, and then just do it!

I recently did the "Into Thin Air" tour in December 2019. I have done a number of dirtbike rides in S.E.Asia though this was next level.
Staring up at the Himalayas whilst enjoying the fun of a dirtbike is the way to holiday.
Hearts and Tears run a very professional tour, the scenery is amazing, the food delicious, and the accommodation excellent. Really cool boutique style inns each with its own character.
The guides are excellent and full of personality and the little touches Hearts and Tears add at the beginning, end and throughout the tour make you realise they have their guest's experience at the front of mind. They want you to have much fun as they have and experience the fascinating country of Nepal.

Ever since the first point of contact with Matt I've known I wouldn't do a tour of this scale through anyone else. Communication has always been second to none, even when matt seems to be out on tour with other riders. He is very proficient in responses and is great at understanding your needs and any question you can throw at him. Due to Covid-19 I have had to reschedule my whole trip through India and Nepal. This review may not be helpful to some as I have not yet been on the tour, however you'll have piece of mind knowing that you're in the best hands for organising the tour of a life time. I am very keen on still heading into Pokhara in the future, and you should strongly consider doing the same thing!

Fantastic trip up to Muktinath, well organised, well maintained bikes, great accommodation and fantastic riding. The views are amazing all the way, with dome history and culture throw in. Plus party time in Marpha! Prabin and the crew looked after us and the bikes brilliantly. Thanks

Having recently returned from the Into Thin Air tour, it has to be one of the best things I have ever done. The riding was incredible, even for a novice like me, the HeartsandTears team were an amazing support (and awesome people), and the scenery is breath taking. I was blown away by how much I enjoyed and thoroughly recommend it.

My friends and I did the Into Thin Air enduro tour, after hearing about it from a friend. It was absolutely amazing! The support was outstanding (thank you to Prabin who lead the group, Surya our trusty mechanic, and Saras aka 'Michigan' for keeping us safe). I would highly recommend this tour. One note: This is a challenging adventure and not for beginning riders, but if you are confident as a rider you should be fine.

Just completed the 'Into Thin Air' trip to Muktinath and it did not disappoint. The team at H&T are very professional, making you feel instantly at ease with the bikes and challenging terrain. The accommodation and food on route was superb and the locations out of this world. This truly is a once in a lifetime experience, thanks guys - I'll be back!

First of all, this is NOT a review abput the trips they do but about their rental service of Royal Enfield motorbikes.
it's ridiculously expensive, even with their off season "discount" you'll be paying about $15-$20 A DAY more than elsewhere and it's not like you get a better quality motorbike or better service or insurance for repair. Ours broke down because of poor maintenance and needed repair. We had to pay for the cost of repairing it ourselves even though the fault was clearly theirs. The mechanic told us we were lucky we did not get killed.
The staff was very friendly but that's not a good reason to rent a motorbike there.
We were very good and well paying customers at heart and tears and they screwed us over. End of discussion.
Do yourself and your wallet a favour and go elsewhere.

Hi Dennis and Daphne,
I was very sorry to read your extremely hurtful, inaccurate and nonconstructive review. When most travelers write a review on social forums such as TripAdvisor, there are typically some positives that can be drawn from the comments, or negative comments are supported by evidence. However, in this case your review goes beyond honesty and fairness as is more likened to outright slander.
To help shed some more light on your time with Hearts & Tears and provide a balanced review for future customers to read, I have responded to each of your claims.
1. Expensive. Yes, we are more expensive than other providers in town. We are not hiding this point and you were made aware of our costs before you undertook your lessons and then rented from us. We also clearly advertise all our prices on our website. How can this be a negative comment in your review when it was entirely your choice to learn to ride and then rent with Hearts & Tears?
The reason we are more expensive than other providers in town is due to a variety of reasons. We are the ONLY business in Pokhara that will provide you with international standard safety gear. We stock a variety of helmets in different sizes (some of them Aria, Nolan, R-Jays), we stock a variety of riding jackets for both winter and summer (Hein Gericke), and we stock a variety of winter and summer gloves. We also provide a set of pannier bags to carry your luggage, a mobile phone in case of emergency, a map, spare parts and a tool kit, bike insurance (please see website for more details), and as much touring advice as you need. Before renting, an inspection of the bike is performed and then to confirm the transaction, a clear and descriptive contract with Terms & Conditions is presented and signed by the customer if they agree with those terms. We also rent a shop front (which you left your luggage in whilst you toured), hire local staff and pay them above average salaries, and despite your comments, we ensure that our bikes are well maintained.
So if we are marginally more expensive than other providers who might place their bikes by the side of the road and do not have a legal registration for their business, I think most travelers/riders will understand that the additional cost per day is money well spent. It's a shame that you did not mention any of this in your review.
2. Poor maintenance. I presume the fact that you did not expand on this point is due to a lack of experience and knowledge on your behalf. To clarify, Dennis undertook two days of riding lessons with Hearts & Tears as he was a complete beginner before coming to Pokhara. Hearts & Tears provides high quality beginner lessons and we have trained hundreds of travelers in the art of riding. Dennis completed two days of training (which is fantastic) and then decided to rent a bike and tour with his girlfriend for 10 days. Once again, I am not sure why this point was omitted from your review.
The fact that Dennis is a beginner is extremely important in understanding your comment on poor maintenance. Whilst renting, a rear wheel bearing failed. We ensure that our wheel bearings are checked regularly and well greased (maintained). It is not uncommon however for a wheel bearing to fail which is considered a 'running part'. It is a US$2 part and can be fixed by any roadside mechanic in Nepal – of which there are many. The problem arose when Dennis decided to continue riding the bike with his girlfriend on the back without getting the bearing fixed. We give all of our customers a mobile phone so that they can call Hearts & Tears to receive advice. Why this was not done until the last day of riding when the problem had become significantly worse is unknown. Continuing to ride the bike with two people and a failed bearing resulted in exacerbation of the problem. By the time Dennis and Daphne returned to Pokhara they had completely destroyed the internal rear wheel hub and it's components. For this reason they are very lucky that nothing happened to them.
When Dennis returned to Pokhara, the bike was taken to our mechanic who began to assess the issue. Hearts & Tears then provided another bike to Dennis (no questions asked) so that they could continue riding for one more day. After proper assessment of the damaged bike, it was determined that US$35 of damage had occurred as a result of negligence on Dennis' behalf. It clearly states in the contract that was signed freely and willingly, that any damage (up to a certain value) deemed by the mechanic to be the fault of the rider is paid for by the rider.
When reminded of this, the customers’ response was anger towards my female Nepali staff member (please note that I was not in Pokhara during this period). The money was finally paid however (thank you), but instead of directing any further comments towards me as the owner (despite in excess of 10 previous emails between us to book these activities), they decided to head directly to the public forum of TripAdvisor to blatantly discredit our business.
At Hearts & Tears we are very passionate about what we do. We pride ourselves on providing a service that is of high quality, honest, value-for-money, and we hope to ensure that your time in Nepal is as fun and easy as possible. If this is ever not the case (which is very rarely as you can see from every other review), we take it seriously as we wish to continue to develop and exceed our customers’ (and our own) expectations. Receiving an unsubstantiated and undeserved review such as this does not just hurt the business, but more importantly, the real people who put their lives into ensuring Hearts & Tears lives on.
I would urge any reader of this review to come into Hearts & Tears and simply chat to us about any of the concerns that this review might have created and to make your own judgement. And to Dennis and Daphne, I urge you to consider the impact that an inaccurate and unfair review can have on the livelihoods of local staff that are employed. Constructive criticisms can be very worthwhile, but in this case I feel you have not achieved anything constructive, and done more of an injustice to yourselves as travelers than you have to Hearts & Tears.
All the best,
Matt

I don't see any reason why it would not be safe for single girls who act maturely and ride responsibly. Nepalese traffic "rules" aren't really so cut and dry, but if you use common sense and ride as your instructor does, you should be fine on the road. As for the staff themselves, I only did a half day tour with my guide Prabin - who I can't recommend more highly - but everyone there made me feel safe and secure during my whole experience. I can't speak to the multi-day tours personally, but again I believe all the staff to be helpful and responsible. Hope this helps.
