As a member of the Tibetan community with a family history of escape from Tibet in 1959, I am deeply passionate about educating others about the Tibetan settlements in Pokhara, Nepal. I booked yet another stay at Thupten's place on AirBnB (4th one so far) because not only the room is in perfect condition, but Thupten, the host, is very reliable, professional and accommodating. I also booked a trek to Mardi Himal through his company Tibetan Encounter and he provided all the necessary information and even supplies that I didn't have with me. His guide was also very knowledgeable of the mountains and has over 30 years of experience, so together they make the perfect duo. I would absolutely recommend anyone both to stay at Thupten's home and to try out at least one of many treks and day tours that he has on offer through Tibetan Encounter.
I booked my first day tour with Tibetan Encounter in 2018 on my first trip to Nepal, and since then everytime I'm visiting Nepal I contact Thupten either for accommodation in Pokhara or for a trek or day tour (or both) because I know I can trust that he offers the best services! And as a bonus, he is very kind, helpful and friendly.

I am so lucky to have Maria at my place for the 4th time. Last time, she joined one of my Tibetan cultural day tours. It is always very nice to meet Maria. I hope to host her again in the future. Thupten

I would highly, highly reccomend this company if you’re travelling through Pokhara. They are so incredibly friendly and easy to work with, and also quite well priced for Pokhara. I did a tibetan cultural tour with them which was really interesting and educational, and I actually enjoyed this experience so much I chose to use this company to organise my Ghorepani/Poon hill trek as well, and I’m so glad I did. I did a 4 night/5 day circuit and it was one of the best things i’ve ever done. The thing that absolutely made the trek for me though was my guide, Ganga. Seriously, please request him if you chose to do this trek! He was so friendly and a really funny guy, we had a lot of really enjoyable interesting conversations and he a very experienced and knowledgeable guide. He made me feel so comfortable the whole time (which was really appreciated since i’m not exactly a mountaineer) and always had the biggest smile on his face. Also if you want good photo’s taken on your trip, he’s your man lol! The trek was absolutely gorgeous, and the initial payment covered food, accomodation, transport, permits ect which made everything much more relaxed and also really great value for money.
This company is awesome if you want to learn about Tibetan culture but they also offer so much more. Was even able to book my ticket to Bandipur from them! If you’re interested in trekking in Nepal, check this company out, i had an awesome experience with them. Some of the nicest people I’ve met so far in Nepal!

Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to Thupten for the warm hospitality I received throughout the duration of this tour — his generosity and kind personality shone through! The tour felt very personalised, and I was fortunate to be the only participant due to the timing of the year (low season).
Thupten passionately brings the history of his culture to light, serving as a true advocate for his heritage. He is dedicated to reviving and preserving it, detailing histories that have been buried/ skewed by mainstream outlet.
I felt privileged to have a taste of Tibetan life, from the daily teachings of Buddha to the richness of food that aligns with the geographical location. It was truly a wonderful experience, and I cannot thank Thupten enough!

I am so happy I experienced this offering. Imagine sitting in a room with 50 monks at 6 in the morning as they chanted in unison in a Tibetan Village at a Buddhist Monestary. That was just the beginning. This was phenomenal. The best part was Thupten. The unbelievably knowledgeable and engaging man left you with such thought provoking details of Tibet and Buddhism, I left a better person. Just amazing!

If you are in Pokhara and want to do something different, take this tour and make sure to take the full day! You will visit tibetan settlements, carpet factory, two monasteries and have the great opportunity to see the chanting and meet local monks and have a chat with them, they will answer all your questions. The visit to a tibetan clinic is also very interesting. Thupten is an amazing guide, listening to him is mesmerising. I knew a lot about tibet prior to this tour but I still learned so much. Thank you Tibetan encounter! I can’t recommend enough this company.

My partner and I chose the morning tour as our time in Pokhara was limited.
We found it fascinating, Thupten is a highly knowledgeable guide, his English is great, and, most importantly, he provides amazing insights into Tibetan culture and Buddhism, but also critical thinking.
Think about it: when will you have the opportunity to learn from a real person about Tibetan culture, or to discuss directly with a monk ?

I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet Max and Laura. They are genuinely wonderful people who have displayed a sincere interest in learning more about Tibet, the Tibetan people residing in Nepal, and our rich Buddhist culture. Thupten our guide was outstanding. His drive and passion came across the entire tour. I didn’t have any expectations booking on to this tour but it absolutely blew me away. This is an educational tour - I have learnt so much about Tibetan culture, food, history, religion & the atrocities they have faced since leaving Tibet & what they hope for the future. This tour is an absolute must for anyone interested in Tibetan history within and outside of Nepal. This was one of the best things I did outside of trekking. Thank you Thupten for an unforgettable day!

I've extremely enjoyed this tour. It feels like Thupten knows an answer to all the questions about Tibet and Bhuddism that you have, like he knows all the questions that may pop up in your mind and answers them before you ask with a good amount of details.
I wish all the guides were that knowledgable and organised.

We had a great experience with Tibetan day encounter. Our guide Thupten, was extremely knowledgable and respected in the settlements. I particularly liked that it was just my friend and myself on the tour, so you did not feel intrusive. Highly recommended!

This tour was a great way to spend a day in Pokhara. The tour provides a glimpse into the lives of Tibetan refugees and the struggles they faced in leaving Tibet and living in Nepal. The strong sense of community in the Tibetan refugee camps was evident and the tour was good in the way it highlighted the struggles faced by this community in the past and present whilst still being very optimistic for the future. Thupten was a terrific guide and a really good story teller. At the end of the tour I felt I had learnt a great deal and was inspired to find out more about Tibet and the Tibetan people.

Hello we are a family of 7, 2 adults and five children ages 5,6,8,10,12 and would love to experience a Tibetan Camp/Village in the Pokhara area. We are here in Pokhara for the next 3 weeks and would like to know how to see the cost of the tour and when we could go. We want to also know how to book the tour, as I am on tripadvisor and it talks a lot about the tour and I can see the 339 excellent reviews but there is no cost or booking information. The Tibetan Mall is opposite the old Royal Palace, we walked there from our hotel (Landmark) and made the booking at the counter. The company does have a website and email contacts so search for those if Denise D's information is not sufficient.
