Embark on a unique journey of discovery and cultural immersion with the Tibetan Encounter tours, led by a Tibetan guide with a personal connection to the land and its people. As a member of the Tibetan community with a family history of escape from Tibet in 1959, I am deeply passionate about educating others about the Tibetan settlements in Pokhara, Nepal. My tours offer a rare opportunity to explore the rich cultural heritage of the Tibetan people and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by Tibetan refugees. As the only Tibetan guide offering these tours, I am dedicated to providing a personalized and educational experience for all of my clients. Excellent from start to finish

I booked yet another stay at Thupten's place on AirBnB (4th one so far) because not only the room is in perfect condition, but Thupten, the host, is very reliable, professional and accommodating. I also booked a trek to Mardi Himal through his company Tibetan Encounter and he provided all the necessary information and even supplies that I didn't have with me. His guide was also very knowledgeable of the mountains and has over 30 years of experience, so together they make the perfect duo. I would absolutely recommend anyone both to stay at Thupten's home and to try out at least one of many treks and day tours that he has on offer through Tibetan Encounter.

I booked my first day tour with Tibetan Encounter in 2018 on my first trip to Nepal, and since then everytime I'm visiting Nepal I contact Thupten either for accommodation in Pokhara or for a trek or day tour (or both) because I know I can trust that he offers the best services! And as a bonus, he is very kind, helpful and friendly.

I am so happy I experienced this offering. Imagine sitting in a room with 50 monks at 6 in the morning as they chanted in unison in a Tibetan Village at a Buddhist Monestary. That was just the beginning. This was phenomenal. The best part was Thupten. The unbelievably knowledgeable and engaging man left you with such thought provoking details of Tibet and Buddhism, I left a better person. Just amazing!

Thupten our guide was outstanding. His drive and passion came across the entire tour. I didn’t have any expectations booking on to this tour but it absolutely blew me away. This is an educational tour - I have learnt so much about Tibetan culture, food, history, religion & the atrocities they have faced since leaving Tibet & what they hope for the future. This tour is an absolute must for anyone interested in Tibetan history within and outside of Nepal. This was one of the best things I did outside of trekking. Thank you Thupten for an unforgettable day!

Great tour with a great guide

I've extremely enjoyed this tour. It feels like Thupten knows an answer to all the questions about Tibet and Bhuddism that you have, like he knows all the questions that may pop up in your mind and answers them before you ask with a good amount of details.
I wish all the guides were that knowledgable and organised.

Great experience into Tibetan culture and history.

We had a great experience with Tibetan day encounter. Our guide Thupten, was extremely knowledgable and respected in the settlements. I particularly liked that it was just my friend and myself on the tour, so you did not feel intrusive. Highly recommended!

This tour was a great way to spend a day in Pokhara. The tour provides a glimpse into the lives of Tibetan refugees and the struggles they faced in leaving Tibet and living in Nepal. The strong sense of community in the Tibetan refugee camps was evident and the tour was good in the way it highlighted the struggles faced by this community in the past and present whilst still being very optimistic for the future. Thupten was a terrific guide and a really good story teller. At the end of the tour I felt I had learnt a great deal and was inspired to find out more about Tibet and the Tibetan people.

Discover Tibetan life in Pokhara

My wife and I found the office the The Tibetan Encounter tours and decided to do the full day tour. Thupten is an excellent host and guide, full of compassion, knowledge and respect for the people he introduced us to.
I did enjoy my time with the Tibetan doctor and his prescription for the constanbt knee pain I have works wonderfully.
The talk with the Tibetan refugee about his experience of escaping to the Mustang district and his life since then was moving.
We were also lucky to spend considerable time with a Buddhist monk, his humour and explanations of his life and views made for a most memorable day. The tour of the Sakya monastery is part of the tour as is the time with the monk. The man who spoke with us was an exceptional person, I found the experience to be the highlight of the day.
If you do only one tour in Pokhara then make it this one - you will not regret it.

Highlight of our tour in Pokhara

We were a group of 10 (6 adults and 4 teenagers) and we went for the Sunrise Tibetan encounter tour on Christmas Eve. It was foggy so we could not see the sunrise which was a pity. However the rest of the tour was very good and made up for it. Thupten is a very engaging speaker and we learnt a lot about the Tibetan culture and history from him. The teenagers among us also found the tour very interesting.
We enjoyed lunch at the roof top too. We highly recommend this tour.

Thupten is an excellent tour guide with a rich knowledge about the Tibetan culture. I can highly recommend this tour to anybody - it’s well organized, you can ask a lot of questions, meet a monk for a deeper conversation and getting in contact with the Tibetan traditional medicine.
It was my highlight I. Pokhara!

Packed with learning about Tibet and Buddhism
I knew very little about the day plight of Tibetans and Buddhism. Thupten is engaging and insightful throughout the day. If you are someone who enjoys learning, history and want to get a good education then you should take this tour.
My favorite part of the tour was meeting with a monk and being able to ask any question. I found the experience to be personally enriching for me.
You are not rushed, not pressured to buy anything or make contributions. Only if you want to.
Thupten is an excellent and attentive guide. He is extremely studied and knowledgeable about all facets of the Tibetan and Buddist culture. I would absolutely recommend.
