Begnas Lake, located about 14 km from the heart of Pokhara, is a hidden gem that offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Unlike the more popular Fewa Lake, Begnas is quieter, making it perfect for those seeking tranquility amidst nature. Surrounded by lush green hills and backed by the stunning Annapurna range, the lake offers breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere that is hard to match.
The area around Begnas Lake is known for its clean air and refreshing environment, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and meditation. You can enjoy a boat ride on the calm waters, or simply sit by the shore and take in the beauty of the surroundings. The lake is also a popular destination for fishing and swimming, with its pristine water adding to the overall charm.
The local eateries around the lake serve fresh fish caught straight from the water, allowing visitors to experience the authentic flavors of the region. With fewer crowds and a more intimate feel, Begnas Lake offers a perfect getaway for nature lovers. Whether you're looking to unwind or explore, this lake is a must-visit destination near Pokhara.

I have had mixed feelings, when i find myself being intimated. I do not like to mention what happened, may be if you like then you can view my past reviews about what did happen and who be responsible for. I wanted to stay on peace and in silence, so Begnas Lake was there for me. Being on the center of lake, viewing Himalayas, though ive seen best of them from Machhapuchre Base Camp, when i was on solo trip to ABC trek from renowned tour agency, but i ended with disappointment at very last moment. I don't know what went wrong when i was writing, i had taken picture of my past review to send to Mr. Ganga when i believe it was posted. Later came to know it was not successful and had to draft again....may be that's the reason, it got posted twice. I cannot express what that be like and i would even write the same thing 10 times if i have to, only the female can understand it..

Begnas Taal is a popular lake lying on the eastern side of Pokhara valley.
It takes about nearly 40 mins to go by vehicle to reach the lake. This Lake lies on the outskirts of Kaski, giving the visitors a lovely scenario of lake, hills and mountain ranges. The lustful green hills which surround the whole lake from four sides makes the environment an amazing place to visit. As you go to the lake, you will be surprised by the aura that gives you a pleasant feeling once you are there. This place is famous for its delicious fish and other items. The Lake is quite big compared to other lakes of Pokhara. Once you actually step there, you will surely go for boating as nothing is better for sightseeing than boats. There are several things which you can do there. You can go upto hill top restaurants and enjoy the serene view of the lake from the top. Not only the food, but the people residing there will give you a warm company once you are there. Here are the several to do and not to do things in the Lake lists.
To Do things
1. You can go for boating there to observe the natural environment.
2. You must definitely try the local cuisines as well as fish in the lake.
3. Make sure you have one guide if you want to explore the junlges there.
Not to do Lists
1. It is better to take one boat driver whenever you are boating because this is a vast lake.
2. As the lake is full of bio diversity inside, it is strictly prohibited to throw any litters there.
3. If you go for boating, make sure you know about the climate well. Monsoon and stormy days are considered risky.

One of the most beautiful lake in the beautiful city of Pokhara. I was there to explore this lake but I explored other one for free that means when you go there to explore this lake you will explore another one as well. And the begnas resort offers you a very comfortable stay there.

On a hill overlooking Begnas Lake, with a fantastic view of the Annapurnas in the background, there is the International Vipassana Meditation centre called Dhamma Pokhara. In operation since 2008, it attracts participants from all parts of the world. Retreats are free of charge, run solely on a donation basis.
The participants who attended with me were mostly young travelers from many countries, although several Nepali people also came.
A rigorous schedule is followed, with a wake-up bell at 4 am, followed by the first meditation period from 4.30 to 6.30. A minimal 'breakfast' is served at 7, with the main meal of the day at 11 am, and a tea break at 4 pm. Food is vegetarian, with more variety and tastier than the standard Nepali dhal bhaat. Lights are out at 9.30 pm.
In the evening, there is a one-hour taped lecture by S.N. Goenka, the Burmese-Indian businessman who, on instructions from his Burmese buddhist meditation teacher, developed the now-worldwide program starting in 1969. The lectures are informative as well as entertaining.

We had a wonderful time at Lake Begnas this trip. We took public transport there and really enjoyed a long walk around the lake. There were places to stay, lots of restaurants, boats to rent and it was a nice change of pace from the more tourist driven Lake Fewa. Next time we plan to stay overnight and see the sunrise over Lake Begnas.
To catch a bus from Lakeside, there are a couple of options. Either from Hallen Chowk or Barahi Temple ask to get off at Prithvi Chowk (15NR). Then head out of town and ask for a direct bus to Begnas. Another 15NR.

We took a cab from Pokhara here one day. Think it cost 400 rps each way. It is a beautiful lake with special views of the mountains. We only say one tourist the whole time we were here. It was all locals out on the boats or playing in the water. There are a few restaurants and bars here, so you can come out here for lunch or a chilled afternoon. Nice to get out of Pokhara and see more of the beauty of Nepal.

If you would like to taste a little pice of heaven.. take a taxi to the Begnas Tal.
We stayed at Sunrise- a bit remoted from all the other guesthouses with the most welcoming family ever.
The food was the most delicious we had in Nepal, and it's also very cheap.
In the area you can go swimming in the lake and walk around and enjoy the peaceful surrounding!
You won't be disappointed!

This may sound silly but do people wear to go swimming at the lake? Just unsure of what I can wear as don't want to cause any offence.

is this lake worth visiting at all? I'm planning to see the fewa lake in pokhara so wanted to which other lakes are as scenic and pretty. Thanks!

Yes, it's worth it. Begnas lake is the second largest lake, after Phewa lake, among the eight lakes in Pokhara Valley. You can also enjoy boating there.
If you have time, after visiting Begnas lake you can also move forward to Sundar Danda, from where you can also view the Rupa lake. Rupa lake is the third biggest lake in Pokhara valley of Nepal. At Sundar danda, there is a view tower from where you can view both Rupa lake at your left and Begnas lake at your right.
Regards,
Enjoy beautiful Pokhara, Nepal🇳🇵🇳🇵
