In March 2022 I had the great opportunity to trek the Annapurna Circuit and Annapurna Sanctuary with Govinda Panta as my guide and Nima as porter. Thanks to the great care and experience of the Adventure Pilgrims Trekking staff it turned out to be a really great and memorable experience. With his vast experience and flexibility, Govinda ensured not only a safe adventure but also shared his knowledge about the varying culture and landscape along the way.

As a small family with a ten year old kid, we went trekking to the upper Mustang area with Govinda and to porters during the monsoon-season in july. It was an amazing and unforgettable trip. The weather was beautiful at this time of the year. All the rain and clouds remained south of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. We had sun nonstop and no rain at all. We decided to trek with Adventure Pilgrims Trekking, because of the good reputation from lonely planet, their long experience, and Govindas very cost transparent approach of planning the trip with us via email. That came out very well as we were facing some challenges before and during the trek. We were not sure whether our ten-year-old daughter would manage the trekking schedule and unfortunately two of us got a little sick in the beginning. Govinda considered it beforehand, and he was easily able to organize a jeep for some parts of our tour. He also changed the initial track a few times, as we liked some areas more than others and solved all that could be solved. Govinda Panta made an outstanding job. All flights, airport transfer, and permits, tea houses worked perfectly for us. All tea houses were nice and clean. He has been knowing all places, owners, and chefs for years. I strongly recommend Adventure Pilgrims to our friends and hopefully we will do the Everest High Passes trek in the next years with them.

What memorable months May and June have become. I finally achieved my long-standing wish to see Everest. The chance to visit Nepal came on the horizon in April for a short period of voluntary work in May. I thought now or never. Picked half a dozen trekking companies to view on the web, emailed them, and was very impressed by the response and range of support offered by Adventure Pilgrims Trekking. I was to fly from Heathrow on 16th May, to arrive Kathmandu 17th and arranged to see Govinda Prasad Panta, owner of Adventure Pilgrims Trekking on the 18th. I put to Govinda my wishes and needs. Essentially, I wished to see Everest. However, I usually walk alone (in the English Lake District) and not in a crowd. But I needed a guide. Then there was ‘covid legs’, that is not good condition as not allowed to walk on a Lakes’ hill for 18 months because of covid. Then there is inevitable anno domini. And to cap it all, before we started the trek, an unexpected dose needing plenty Imodium and finally antibiotics. Not auspicious - some preparation! Govinda, who is well known in Nepali trekking circles, breathed kindly reassurance and solved all that could be solved. He arranged for Yadu Babu Kapri to return from Lukla and introduced him as my prospective guide (and porter). We got on well from the beginning. All air tickets and trek permits were arranged for me, my kit checked, and we flew first flight from Kathmandu to Lukla early morning 29th May – this time auspicious , 29th May is ‘Everest Day’ and celebrated as such in Kathmandu. Over the next few days, we chatted about everything from various Hindu gods to garlic soup and Nepali Dal Bhat twice a day. Training to be an official guide is an arduous, lengthy and testing process, Yadu is top class, I saw his official guide’s pass. He woke me day 5 in Tengboche by a 5:30am tap on my door, loose boots then on and out to see many beautifully visible mountain tops and a few seconds glimpse of the triangular shape of Everest’s peak, which clouds rapidly took away again, leaving a beautiful walking day, even if I was slow. Day 8 (5th June) we arrived at Gorak Shep, Yadu had been checking my water intake all the way (for altitude acclimatisation) and seemingly taking care of all else. In the morning we took our chance, up early and on to Kala Pathar, in front of Pumori, and were rewarded by great views and a beautiful sunrise on Everest herself. That was what I had wished to see. We had been trekking just out of season, yet saw no rain until 10 minutes drizzle on the twelfth day. I think I was very lucky in many ways. There was rain walking into Lukla! Arriving at Kathmandu airport, I was met by Govinda’s assistant, Krishna, and taken to my hotel. Following morning, Govinda came and presented me with a memento scarf and Krishna took me to Pilgrims Book House where I found books for grand children and a copy of George Lowe’s and Huw Lewis-Jones’ original photographic record of “The Conquest of Everest” for myself. I can not speak too highly of Govinda Prasad Panta, his associates, and Adventure Pilgrims Trekking. Paul W. Burton Norwich, UK

Absolutely fantastic trip (Everest High Passes). Krishna Panta was outstanding in every way: highly skilled, conscientious, and a real pleasure to hike with and talk to. I could not have asked for a more dedicated, organized, and friendly guide. He so embraced our preferences and goals, managed to make it a bespoke and very personally enriching trip. Every logistical piece also worked perfectly (flights, airport transfer, permits, tea houses etc). I strongly recommend Adventure Pilgrims and Krishna in particular!

My brother and I had a truly OUTSTANDING trek with Krishna. We had 12 days and trekked 120 miles around the 3 Passes, EBC, Gokya. It was the trip of a lifetime. I've never been so well taken care of. Krishna, our guide, tended to our every need. He knew everything about everything. He anticipated anything we could possibly want, was incredibly responsible, flexible and fun. We loved being around him and wish he could be on every trek we ever do for the rest of our lives! We'll be back for sure and won't go unless he's available. He was never overbearing, gave us our space, but was present to explain anything/everything, and made terrific/safe judgement calls. We were supremely impressed by him. Govinda was also lovely with all the planning that happened via email. We are so grateful for this trek. It meant the world to us. And we are counting the days until we can come back and watch the sunrise above the clouds with only the sounds of the prayer flags flapping!
