Before heading to India after a 3 weeks of hike to Everest Base Camp, we decided to end our vacation in a comfortable way. We decided to book our spa appointment at Ayatana Spa and the trained masseurs made sure all our stress was relieved.

We had booked an appointment for Hot Stone Massage therapy for 90 minutes and I have to mention that everything was perfect from the word go. The room was neat, everything was organized well in advance. Loved our complimentary steam and sauna following the therapy.

Thanks Usha and Anita for the perfect massage.

Before heading home after a 3 weeks of holiday in nepal, including a 6-day hike in annapurna range we decided to end our holiday in a relaxed way.

So for the last night we chose for the shambala hotel and a massage at ayatana spa.

We just had a hot stone massage in combination with a foot and facial massage and it was amazing. The atmosphere in the room was good and everything was very neat.

The personal was very nice and it fealt really relaxing. As everybody likes there own tension they now and then asked if they weren't being to tough.

Also they provide you a really nice shower afterwards too clean you from the oil.

Although the massages are not cheap I would really reccomend one after spending time at the busy streets of Kathmandu...

I went here for a facial. I had to wait about 20-25 minute. The room was very clean. It wasn't expensive. ($20) 2000 RS. for a facial. The girl that did my facial did a nice job. I gave 3 stars because she didn't do extraction. I asked her if she could do it, but she said it's not good for my skin. I didn't want to debate so i just agreed. You don't really see any difference unless you take the blackheads out. Oh well.

I went to this spa today for a facial and a massage as I was staying at the hotel. The prices were fairly high for Nepal and there was no discount given if you were a guest of the hotel (in fact the 10% service charge was still included). The facial itself was alright but the technician did nothing in terms of tailoring the treatment to my skin nor explaining each step of the treatment. She was fairly rough which took a should-be-relaxing time and certainly kept me awake (even accidentally hitting me in the face no less than 3 times). My skin looks nicely hydrated but in no way was it the deep cleanse that I was hoping for... I'll be needing another one shortly for that!

As for the massage, the technician spoke English well and I explained to her that I only wanted a head/should/foot massage. Sure enough, the first thing she did was try to massage my legs and then proceed to spend time focusing on everywhere I told her not to. The massage was not relaxing in the slightest and did not manage to hit the muscles either (rather a mere rubbing of my skin). However, she did manage to massage my lower back so roughly that it gave me pain for the rest of the day. The head massage was the worst part with her simply frizzing my hair with rubbing it quickly then saying "all finish".

While the spa itself has a nice relaxing layout, they have forgotten all of the little touches that make a difference - after treatment tea/water; having towels in the room so that you can shower afterwards, etc. Normally I would not be picky about this but as the treatment is not cheap, I think you are paying for higher class service.

Cannot say I would be rushing back...

Much clean and friendly service during service, the location is also outside of the Ring road where the busiest business can not disturb to reach, it saves time.

I was staying at shambala and I decided to book a facial at this spa on the last day in kathamndu. I made a reservation and they started the facial on time and they didn’t keep me waiting. However the facial was not that great. I expected them to steam the face and remove black head etc etc which wasn’t done. It’s not worth the price, better get a massage for the same price.

Couples
We booked a couples spa - an hour of Deep Tissue Massage - at zero notice. They asked us to wait (for about 15 minutes) as they readied the couples massage room for us.

Upon entering the room, we could understand why we had been asked to wait. The room had been warmed up to a comfortable temperature (this was in December's winter) and the massage bed was also warmed up and continued to be warm through the hour. I found these little touches very impressive. It's what you expect when you pay a good amount for a service!

The massages were excellent and skillfully done. They were relaxing and soothing. We were asked about the pressure time and again, and the masseurs adjusted themselves continuosly as per our feedback. They were skilled enough to discover the stress points on our bodies, and work on them for relaxation.

The shower afterwards was nice and warm. Overall, excellent facilities, great ambiance and very well trained masseurs make it money well spent!

I went there for Ayurveda Body Massage, Shirodhara and Full Body Massgae. Staff is experienced and well qualified. Every time I felt rejuvenated after having the session. The behaviour of the staff, specially the girl sitting on spa reception, was excellent.
