I did an amazing EBC trek from Phaplu to Lukla with Himalayan Magic Adventures in early March 2020, probably one of the last treks that were completed before the country went into lockdown due to Covid-19. Nirmal was incredibly kind and helpful in setting everything up at very short notice, picking me up at the airport, catering to my wish to travel by Jeep to Phaplu on the way out and arranging the best guide I could have imagined: Pasang, a very pleasant and kind person and a very knowledgeable and patient guide, who took me safely up to an already deserted EBC and down, explaining the name of every mountain and sharing lots of details about life in the mountains, taking pictures of me and patiently waiting until I had taken enough, picking nice guesthouses, being great company for almost three weeks - and all of this while Covid-19 slowly developed into an increasingly worrisome pandemic. When I got stuck in the sudden Nepalese lockdown in Lukla, Pasang checked on me regularly and Nirmal went out of his way to try and help get my luggage to make it to a repratriation flight in time. I am extremely grateful to both Nirmal and Pasang and very much hope that they will soon be able to take trekkers to the mountains again!

I didn’t contact Himalayan Magic Adventures in advance and only met Nirmal and Birendra after arriving in Katmandu. Greeted by a warm welcome, Nirmal helped to get a visa extension in time and arranged everything for the trek in less than two days, from finding the guide, Pemba Sherpa, and the porter, Tanji, organizing the jeep trip to Phaplu and the meeting with Tanji there, and later Pemba on the way to Namche Bazaar, to the booking of the flight back from Lukla to Kathmandu. Nirmal is very professional and tries to accommodate the needs and wishes of his customers. Will definitely go back to HMA and Nirmal for the next trek!
Pemba and Tanji were simply fantastic. Pemba is an experienced and reliable young guide from Lukla who knows the Khumbu very well, always keen to share his knowledge, while Tanji is a genuine human being, always smiling and willing to help, both are such lovely spirits. Pemba and Tanji were so nice and caring, and also very patient as the original Three Passes Trek + EBC plan had to be scaled down to EBC only due to issues I had with altitude. Every day spent with them despite the difficulties and the cold was a real pleasure, and they largely contributed to make this trek an exceptional adventure, not to mention the memorable games of backgammon in the lodges on the way to EBC and the snooker challenge in Lukla!
HMA should be on the top of your trekking agencies list and if you are planning a trek in the Khumbu, don’t forget to ask Nirmal for Pemba and Tanji, you won’t regret it!

Nirma from Himalayan magic was very responsive and answered all our questions clearly. He organised our guide “pasang” . We had not booked any tea houses as we wanted to be flexible and pasang was super and he got us great accommodations in tea houses once pasang knew our specifications- like individual rooms with toilet and hot shower .
We did EBC/ kalapathar/ cho la pass and gokyo & gokyo ri and back to lukla in 13 days. Once back in Kathmandu we got Nirma to organise transport to bharatpur and patan Durbar day trip.
This is one of our best treks in our lives and it was only possible because of pasang and our great porters “ karma & temba”.
This trek gave us a great introduction to multi day higher altitude treks and after Kilimanjaro we are thinking of coming back to do some more treks like to mera trek and island peak , god willing.
When we come back I would without hesitation contact Nirma and use Himalayan magic to organise our treks.

Just finished my 17days trip to EBC + Gokyo. Overall experience with HMA was excellent,
my guide (Pasang) was great and very helpful throughout the entired trek. HMA (Nirma and her father) has gone above and beyond to make my trip in Nepal enjoyable and memorable. I would recommend HMA to anyone who would like to trek or traveling in Nepal.

We had an amazing trek. HMA provided Pasang Sherpa as our guide. He made our trip into a wonderful experience. Pasang is a very qualified guide, who speaks good English, is friendly and helps you with everything you need help with.
Communication with HMA before the trip was very clear and they helped us wherever they could.
I strongly recommend both HMA as a trekking agency and Pasang Sherpa as a guide for you Khumbu trips.

This is my third trekking in Nepal organized by Mr Nirmal and my association with him has been over 12 years. While trekking in high altitudes many things can go out of plan and that is when the value of an Trek organizer (though remote) is realized. I have faced such situation twice, once due to an AMS issue with one of the group members and another due to bad weather which had flights cancelled for more than a week and Nirmal managed both the situations extremely well and at a very reasonable cost as both involved flying out in choppers. His team of Guides and porters is efficient and professional.
I recommend Nirmal strongly for any Nepal treks. He is established, well networked and can get things done at a reasonable price!

Hey
Our Trekking has finished.
I would like to give our feedback about our guide to you.
Our guide, Animesh, was perfect. He is an intelligent guide with a lot of soft skills. He managed everything based on our needs in a perfect way and he also suggested beautiful sightseeing on the way which made the trip more spectacular. He is a perfect photographer, now we have amazing pictures thanks to him. He is educated and speaks very good English so we had intellectual conversations and we learned more and more about Nepal and its culture, about the histories behind many things and that was amazing. He also perfectly managed a car for us when my knee had so much pain on the way back. He tried his best to find the rooms with good views for us and in general he made this trekking way better than what we expected. 🤩
We strongly recommend him 💚

Nirma is the owner and operator of Himalayan Magic Adventure travel agency. He is trustworthy person and very helpful with organising my trip before I arrived in Nepal. On the trek I was guided by Pemba Sherpa. Pemba spoke excellent English and is very knowledgeable about the Khumbu Valley region, and is a great human being overall. If I went back to Nepal I would use this travel agency and request for Pemba!

I decided to book a porter/guide last minute for the Annapurna circuit trek, mainly because my friend had to drop out due to injury. My main motives were safety and helping out the local economy after the earthquake. The route and side treks were already planned out, but I was open to input from my guide Kesap.
The trek was fantastic. Information provided by the guide was predominantly repituous mountain and village names, but the company was welcome and Kesap very friendly. Consequently, I didn't mind that he often ignored my requests and simply followed the itinerary planned out in his mind from previous treks (in the end we did all of the side treks I had planned, but stayed in what I would call the more 'touristy' villages along the route, rather than smaller quieter guest houses - at additional expense I should add).
We made it back to Pokhara at the end of the trek in high spirits, after 20 days of scenic views, great company and surprisingly good food. I was expecting to pay a tip (despite neither Nepal or England having 'tipping cultures'). I offered 20% of what Kesap earnt from the trek. I thought that this was generally considered a good tip in countries where tips are customary, but Kesap was not pleased. He told me that people usually offer multiple hundreds US$ and that he would accept no less than NPR 10000 (just under $100 and a 50% tip on his pay - a lot of money to me, considering that I have just finished education and am spending my remaining (pitiful) savings on this final trip before I start work).
We ended up arguing for at least an hour, with Kesap getting increasingly angry (revealing the true motivations behind his all smiles facade). Feeling slightly threatened by the new side to Kesap I was witnessing, as a solo traveller in a foreign country, I relented and went to the atm with him to draw out the required money. At the time I knew this was simple extortion, but what price do you put on your safety while abroad?
I would like to point out that the service from Nirmal was exemplary - he was professional, knowledgeable and able to accommodate all of my requirements - for an excellent price unmatched in Kathmandu. This is the only reason for the three star rating, in what should really be one star after the horrible experience with Kesap. Perhaps he should place more emphasis on the quality of porters/guides employed.

In May, I arranged porter guide through Nirmal for 17 days trek to EBC/Gokyo. He was very friendly and took his time to ensure I understood what options I have. He let me spent time with the guide/porter before I hired the person, and that person turned out to be very nice person all-around. Chhiring would help persons in need regardless of whether they were paid customers or not, and was very professional. He is great as a person as well as a guide. I had the best trekking experience of my life. The view was spectacular and saw interesting villages. All the teahouses I stayed at were relatively good.
Although I was more than satisfied with my guide, I found the way Nirmal works peculiar. When I asked him to produce receipt after I made the payment(so that I have a proof of payment), he refused and said I would have to pay tax. He just insisted me to trust him. At the end, I convinced him to send me an email stating that I had paid. When it comes to email requests/enquiry, he was very slow. In fact, my email for requesting itinerary, which he and I discussed during the meeting, was entirely ignored. Lastly, when I asked for refund for one day I did not use (I came back one day earlier than I paid for), he asked me to talk to my guide. Since I made the payment to him and not to the guide, I don't understand the need to go through my guide for refund. My intention was to give the refund to my guide in addition to the tip I had given him. I just don't want agency to take the cut for the day I didn't use. As I didn't have much time, I decided not to pursuit.

My husband and I are planning to trek EBC in Oct. We are both in our 60s, we like to walk, had done day hikes but have no experience in trekking. How difficult is EBC trek?
Written December 29, 2017
EBC trek for us was not too difficult , our level of fitness for people in our mid 50's was only average I would say.
For example , our preparation last summer consisted of a 40 minute walk every day over forest trails here in Wicklow , moderately hilly , then 10 minute walks with our dog morning and evening . A weekend round of golf , or a half day hike on Sunday's . I found carrying a 10 kg back pack a good help to build strength in the knees , especially on down hill sections . If you have very steep ground to walk in your area , this is the best training I think.
Lots of people in mid 60's on EBC trail. Our guide from Himalayan Magic was excellent in judging the correct pace for us each day .
