We were given Krishna’s card at a local hiking shop in Australia and had great correspondence with him before our arrival in Nepal. Krishna and our guide Samir Raí met us at our hotel in Kathmandu upon arrival and gave us an overview of the trip to come. We did the Annapurna Circuit over 8 days with Samir along with two porters; all of whom were absolutely wonderful and made our experience one that was unforgettable. We would 100% recommend Motherland Hiking, Krishna and Samir Rai to anyone looking for an amazing trekking experience anywhere in Nepal. Dominique and Peter

Krishna organized a 14-day combination trek for me and a friend. Mardi Himal, ABC and Poon Hill. It was well organized and every day we could decide how far we wanted to hike. It was an unforgettable experience for my first time in Nepal. I definitely recommend!

Motherland organized our amazing trip to Annapurna Base Camp in the end of october 2012. All our contact with them was very friendly and professional. We contacted a lot of guide companies in Kathmandu before choosing Motherland. Everybody was very friendly but what differed was the professionalism and the attitude of Krichna and his crew. They gave the impression that they really knew what they were talking about and we felt that we could trust them with organizing our adventurous trip. We kept that impression throughout the whole trip and we are very satisfied with our decision to go with Motherland. We will definitely use them when we visit Nepal again.

Our trip started with a bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara that took about 8 hours. Be prepared for a strange bus ride with bad roads, loads of traffic, crazy (but skilled) drivers and at times beautiful and scary views. We stayed in Pokhara one night and then went with a cab for an hour to the starting (and ending) point of our trek. Our guide took care of permits the whole trip so we never had to bother with that. The destination for the first two days of the trek was Poon Hill. Painfully early in the morning on the third day, we had a short trek up to Poon Hill to see the sunrise over an amazing panorama of the Annapurna range. Many people head back after this and if you don’t have 10 days for trekking a 3-4 day trip to Poon Hill is also very rewarding and you get a good taste of the mountains. We continued for five days with very shifting landscapes, views and weather until we reached Annapurna base camp. The last day before base camp it started to get cold even during the days and the last stretch before reaching basecamp we were walking in snow. We weren’t really prepared for snow and that kind of coldness but our guide helped us borrow gloves and blankets and saw to it that we never had any problem with it. Annapurna base camp, or sanctuary as it’s also called, was amazing. You stand in the middle of a range of very high peaks (8000+ meters) and when it’s clear you can stand for hours taking pics and just being amazed by mother nature. The 8th day we woke up and looked at the sunrise from the base camp and then started the descent back to our starting point and then Pokhara. We took another route back and walked a bit faster so in the afternoon the 9th day we were back in Pokhara and had a spare day there which we used for a well deserved ‘trekkers’ massage.

Along the road there are small villages and guesthouses every other hour of trekking. They are well supplied though the higher you get the more you will have to pay for everything. When you see a gang of porters running up the trail with huge loads you will understand the price increase. Including everything, the days trekking were the cheapest of my 2 months in Nepal. The food is standard nepali, thai, pizza and some other stuff, so there’s always a lot to choose from. A recommendation is the national dish dhal bhat since you get as much as you can eat and it’s generally really well made. The amount of beds decrease as you get higher. At the cross points and base camps it can be difficult to find your own room at times if you don’t arrive early. There’s always room in the communal bedroom/dining hall with the guides and porters though. We had a deal which included everything so our guide took care of our accommodation and meals and most other stuff we needed.

What really made the trip so great was our fantastic guide Pranav. He was constantly happy, knew a lot about the area, how to get around and how to get what we needed. He is extremely knowledgeable about trekking and Nepal in general and we learned more than we could ever imagine including a Nepali card game. We became good friends and it felt more like three friends on a hike, than 2 people and a guide.

We highly recommend Motherland and we are positive that you will be very pleased if you choose them!

Best wishes,
Mikael & Annette

A group of 4 of us went for an approximately 10 days of ABC trek in early October 2017, and we were blown away with the beautiful scenery as well as the great experience trekking. Krishna was very helpful in arranging the trip for us and his team was excellent in what they do. Samir, our tour guide was very helpful, making sure that we were all well taken care of, and did not fall into altitude sickness. Highly recommended and will definitely return to visit again! Yup, EBC trekking on the way!

My mum and I booked a trekking trip to Annapurna base camp through Mother Land last year and I was highly satisfied with the whole experience.

When booking the trip we spoke to various agencies in Thamel (Kathmandu) and Mother Land trekking was by far the best agency when it came to advise on trip, price and experience.

Krishna, who was the person we spoke to, is an experienced guide and he could advise us on the difference routes and positives and negatives about each of them so that we could make an informed decision about which route to take. He took a lot of time to answer our questions and come up with suggestions. I have travelled in Nepal before and had a pretty good idea about what type of trip I was after and Krishna was more than happy to step aside from the normal “packages” type of trip that is sold in Nepal to arrange for a tailor made trip accommodating our wishes.

When we told Krishna that that we wanted to think this through before making a decision he didn’t push us to buy anything. We saw other agencies afterwards, but there wasn’t anything as good as Mother Land so we came back later that day and booked the trip.

We departed the day after arranging the trip and were met by our porter / guide Dhruba, who would follow us on the whole trip and act as guide, arranging for accommodation and food as well as carrying our luggage. Dhruba was friendly and helpful throughout the whole trip and part of the reason why we had such an amazing trip.

This is my third trekking trip in Nepal and I would definitely go back to Mother Land trekking next time I go.

I had a great time using Motherland Hiking and will contact them again for my next trip. I asked for their help to trek in Annapurna and Everest for a total of one month. My guide was professional, honest, and interesting. I felt almost no stress adjusting to Nepal thanks to their help, and always felt safe. I will remember my hiking experience as a positive milestone in my life.
