This museum has the normal items, but thier collection of old photos is wonderful. It also has on display the very first car in Nepal and the photos showing its journey from India to Kathmandu. It was carried by men through the Terai, over the foothills and though the valleys up to Kathmandu where it was driven on 25 miles... More

The museum is very ancient. They have really interesting things on display but maintenance is very poor. The buildings are quite dirty both inside and outside. They should try to fix that. Other than that, it was a good visit.

The national museum in Kathmandu not impressive from the outside. The grounds are poorly kept, buildings undergoing repairs and there seems to be nobody around. It is also a minor mission to get there. I walked from Thamel with the aid of google maps but still got a bit lost. There are some really interesting items though that are worth... More

I had been looking forward to seeing the National Museum, as I was sure that Nepal had a rich past to display. However to be honest, the disappointment was overwhelming, and really quite sad. I think that for people in most countries, there is a pride in their history and heritage and their national Museum is the pinnacle of that.... More

Its at walking distance from the Swayambunath/ monkey temple so comvenient to visit the museum afterwards. There are 3 different museums in the same place, the largest area occupied by hindu-buddhist sculptures. If you'll be taking photos, need to pay extra. Otherwise there are lockers.

Almost a century old museum stands tall. Just off the city limits and and some distance from Harati Devi Temple which is also a beautiful one, this museum. Good overall historic collection of arts, pictures and most important to see Buddhist gallery where there is lot of information. Must visit if in Kathmandu to get idea of past culture of... More

The national museum located in Chhauni is the repository of Nepal's historical and culture legacy. A round through it's many rooms will acquaint you with the multi-layered history of Nepal.

There are a few interesting things here, but not many in my opinion. I spent more time waiting for it to open than seeing the displays. Other than a few sexy hindu pieces, everything was not worth it.

Excellent selection/collection of ancient art from mostly Kathmandu valley. Amazing sculpture from early indigenous civilizations. A must see venue.
