I just returned from 4 excellent days kayaking with Maila and his team out of GRG’s riverside camp on the Trishuli river. I had some kayaking experience, from many years ago, but had probably forgotten more than I ever knew. Within a short amount of time, the GRG team had me safely running BIG high volume rapids, surfing, rolling, etc.
Off the water, the food and accommodations were both excellent. The rustic riverside camp is in a quiet spot, perfect for relaxing and taking in the stunning scenery with a beverage in hand. I highly recommend GRG for anyone considering a kayaking or rafting trip. I will return myself at the earliest opportunity.
PS, as of October 2021, entering Nepal is quite easy for vaccinated travelers.

Thanks Jon for taking the time to write this review (especially as you had to write it twice!). Your Sun Kosi trip was awesome! Nothing like opening up the river for the season. Thanks for making it such great fun, we hope to see you back another year for a Karnali trip!

I went on a one day rafting trip in August 2012 on the Trisuli River. The whole day was awesome, Maila and the gang are amazing at what they do! you can never ever fault any of them! they always made you feel safe but of course having fun at the same time! (maila style!) it was my first time going rafting and maila made sure i was ok and having a good time and also reasured me that i would have an amazing day, which i did!!!
When we stopped for lunch break, the gang got set to work straight away, there was no hanging about for food!! the lunch spread was awesome, even for those fussy eaters you could always find something there you would eat so dont worry about going hungry!!
When it was time to go home, there was only me and one other volunteer going back with Chriisy but Maila made sure we got on the transport to the bus and on the right bus safely.
When we werent on a day trip Chrissy and Maila always made sure we were all happy and satisfyed with what we were doing!
Thanks again for an amazing five weeks, you made me feel very welcome in your country!

Hi Natalie, Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for us. Although we only had one day in the water with you, it was great to have you in Pokhara for three months. Hopefully we will see you back here again and now you have got over your initial fear of the rivers we can take you out again!!

I went on a one day rafting trip in August 2012 in the Trisuli River. It was incredible, Maila is a brilliant guide who makes sure everyone is having fun, but we also felt very safe with him! The whole day was such a good experience, my only regret was that I couldn't have done more days!!
The food was amazing, I have no idea how they do it! And the scenery along the river was even better. I would recommend GRG to anyone!

We booked our trip from the UK, the contact and support from GRG before we went was great, all our questions answered. It was no problem for them to helpfully sort out our whole trip, from an airport pick-up, to accommodation and of course the brilliant Sun Kosi trip.
We rented our kayaks from GRG, they hold an extensive range of modern quality boats, paddles and other equipment - no need to fly with our own. On the river we were well looked after by the very professional and experienced river guides who cooked incredible food for every meal.
Definitely would use GRG again and would recommend them as the rafting and kayaking company to use in Nepal (they are probably one of the best such companies I've met anywhere in the World). Also worth noting that they offer other activities such as canyoning and can organise trekking and mountain biking.

Couldn't recommend a trip with GRG more.
The organisation was top notch. It was a pleasure dealing with Chrissy who was extremely friendly and helpful, making sure we were all prepped for the trip and to answer any questions. The monsoon had been particularly bad and stuck around longer than expected so there was some concern about whether we could raft the full length of the Sun Kosi. Safety was clearly a main concern for GRG, and we were kept fully informed before our arrival and backup plans were in place to potentially do a multi river style trip instead. Fortunately, all was well and the original trip went ahead as planned.
The guides were all brilliant. On the river we were in safe hands, especially since the late monsoon meant the river was high and some sections were pretty crazy. They were more than happy for us to hop into the kayaks (or even man the supply raft) to show us the ropes. I quite enjoyed being the captain of the raft until I got us stuck in a whirlpool...
Out of the river, everyone went out of their way to make sure we were well looked after. Food was great, plentiful and varied. Every morning we would wake up to a pot of hot coffee(!). We played football with the guides, frisbee (until it was sadly lost to the river), cards, chatted by the fire etc. On one of the days we didn't raft as the conditions weren't great (heavy rain) so our guide took us up on a short trek to a local village for a visit. We were welcomed by a family who showed us their home and made tea. We were introduced to the local alcohol (raksi) and cooked a huge BBQ on the beach.
I'd you're looking for a company to book a rafting or kayaking trip in Nepal, look no further. Really enjoyed the Sun Kosi and hope to be back in Nepal soon on another trip with GRG.

I first heard about the Sun Kosi trip in 2013 – at the time I did a half-day trip on the Trishuli river with the GRG (http://bit.ly/2ebGdtR). Maila described it to me as one of the best rafting trips. Seeing as I was a complete newbie, the thought of rafting for 8 days straight was intimidating to say the least.
Still, his description of the trip stayed with me.
Fast-forward to three+ years later, I found myself talking travel destinations with a friend & the Sun Kosi came to my mind. The more I recommended it to my friend, the more excited I got. With my birthday around the corner & I decided to look into doing the trip.
I got in touch with Chrissy & found her to be exceptionally helpful & fast. Even though there wasn’t a trip scheduled for the day I was interested in – she arranged it. She got the word out there & we were scheduled to leave on the 8th of October.
We had such an excellent time & have nothing but the best things to say about the organization, attention to detail, generosity and kindness of everyone on the trip. We felt particularly safe under the watchful laid-back gaze of Daya – especially after a rather eventful trip down the Hakapur rapid on day 4 (when six rafters fell out of the raft). My sisters and I attended every one of Guru’s morning yoga sessions - & I really missed starting my day in such a meditative & calming way.
I really respect & appreciate the work Maila & Chrissy are doing – on so many levels. Firstly, the socio-economic impact of GRG is both impressive & inspiring. I’m blown away by how hard the guys work to keep the rafters in high spirits. Beyond being on top of all of the rafting, packing and prep work, so many of the guys stayed up late in the night to keep us company & entertain us with songs and stories – that was really sweet. I do not underestimate how much of energy it takes to stay continuously switched on after doing a hard day of work (even though I didn’t do as much of the heavy lifting and paddling, I, myself, frequently retreated to rocks on the edges of the banks on many occasions).
The cooking, as many have commented here, is brilliant. They even baked a cake for me on my birthday! Amazing. Just amazing.
And finally, as city-dwellers, we’re thankful for the serenity with which this trip provided us. It was unbelievable. We’re happy & grateful to enjoy all of this nature with the knowledge that we’re with a company which has a responsible & sustainable approach to doing business.
The only small hiccup we experienced was as at the end. We needed to make it back to Katmandu to take our flight leaving at 22:10 to get back home. Even though we got to the Biratnagar airport by 13:30 – we only took off from there @ 20:15 – due to many delays. Thankfully, after much running and scrambling we managed to make it to our connecting flight. So I’d recommend giving yourself a buffer day if you’re taking a connecting flight to keep that stress-free river attitude for as long as you can
All in all, we’re forever grateful to Maila, Chrissy, Daya, Sonu, Jevan, Anil, Amir, AK, Biru and Mahindra for one of the best trips we’ve ever taken.
If you’re thinking about doing it, channel the slogan of Nike and…JUST DO IT!

Hi Eva,
Thanks so much for your detailed review and for joining GRG for a second trip! When's the third going to be?! It's great that you enjoyed the Yoga so much. Mahendra has been working with us for 5 years now and is a great addition to the rafting. And so relieved you made your flight - we normally recommend that you leave a day spare, but I know you didn't have the time to be able to do that! Unfortunately the flights/buses are out of our control, but very happy you made it in time!! See you next time. Maila GRG

I'm nearly 54 years of age and have never written a review in my life but am utterly compelled to write this as I have just had the most thrilling, relaxing weeks holiday of my life.
I was planning earlier in the year to meet my daughter in Nepal after her years travelling to Australia and South East Asia to raft the Sun Koshi river but then the earthquake hit Nepal so I thought that was the end of my idea.
Fortunately GRG contacted me to say they had surveyed the river and it was safe so I went ahead and booked(glad I'm stubborn and listen to nobody).
This is my second time in Nepal and it looks no different to me after the quake and no tourists so this is the best time to come as Kathmandu as it's nowhere near as manic as it usually is.
I'm not going to mention any names as my memory is not what it used to be but the main reason is that everyone who works for GRG was outstanding and no individual deserves more praise than anyone else.
So I meet my daughter and her friend she met travelling at the baggage carousel in Kathmandu airport(I new this was going to cost me) her flight from Asia was 5 minutes behind mine, my bag came along and I went to meet GRG outside.
After an hour waiting I went to check on the girls they actually let me back airside twice to check but no sign of them(be prepared for chaos at the airport).
The GRG driver didn't want to leave but I told him to and the girls met me at my hotel an hour later.
We went to meet the GRG team at the office and I told them I forgot my head torch and they went out and bought 3 new ones for us saying they would use them on other trips.
For my trip 4 people had cancelled but GRG did not cancel the trip, they just made the numbers up themselves how they were even going to break even with only two full paying customers I don't know so I'm glad my daughters friend came along on the trip and there was a French guy living in Nepal who got a good discount just to make up the numbers.
So the trip begins with a no nonsense safety brief and we are off, by the time we camped up for the second night on a secluded pure white silk sand island with rapids on one side massive boulders in front and pools of still water on the other side all my hopes and expectations were exceeded and then it just got better and better.
For the whole week we did not see another raft in the river and this was GRG's first trip of the year.
They surveyed every big rapid by land before we went down it and if they couldn't see it from land the boss would get out the raft and kayak down the massive grade 4+ rapids and then somehow appear up it again saying it's ok just big waves.
Unfortunately we didn't flip the raft but came close a good few times and I was only launched out the raft once. But you were in big rapids everyday with the boss in full control and would tell you what to do at every big rapid as they are all different and I just new we were all in safe hands.
They had between one and three safety kayaks depending on the size of the rapid.
We could not wait for the next day to start as going down these rapids just slaps a smile on your face you can't wipe off and that don't happen to me often just ask my kids(snowboarding in fresh powder does it but I'm lucky if that happens once every 2 or 3 years) this was every day.
The freshly cooked food for dinned and breakfast each day was excellent and hygiene was second to none, these boys work so hard and all we have to do is set our tents up and take them down in the morning, pack out dry bags with our mattress, pillow, sleeping bag and personal stuff.
Camp fires every night having a few beers and listening to music looking at views of the milky way like you have never seen with fire flys and shooting stars and getting them mixed up the more beers you have was just magical.
Yes the toilet is a tent on the outskirts of camp and is a hole in the sand it only took the girls three days to come to terms with it but come to terms with it they did indeed.
We had a cooked breakfast and were packed up and on the river by 9am every day
and would stop at a secluded beach for lunch, then on to the nights camp for about 3pm.
Sometimes locals would come down to camp and the girls would spend time playing with the local children and giving them trinkets.
Yes there is isolated cases of thieving but the boys at GRG don't let it happen to you one night after a scotch or two too many I fell asleep outside my tent looking at the stars and it was after midnight one of the boys woke me and told me to put my rucksack in my tent.
You also have to remember Nepal is a third world country and things happen here that are totally out of anyone's control, the time I was here India had closed the boarder to Nepal so there was no fuel or gas among other things as Nepal are totally reliant on India for everything.
So my trip did not go completely to plan they cut it a day short it was only a rest day so didn't miss anything but it would have been nice to chill out for a day but I didn't even ask why.
So a big thank you to GRG for giving the most amazing ending to the girls best year of there life's and for making me one happy DAD!
I'll share this with I did get robbed the first day in Kathmandu I paid $150 for a painting that might be worth $20 I was tired and the kid was good and good luck to him I hope his family needs the money and that's all I want to say on the matter.
But this picture will be hung in my house in pride of place just to remind me that I can still be a colossal idiot.
Oh and I do have a major gripe with GRG of the three head torches you bought for us mine was the only one that didn't turn RED!

We went down the trisuli river, I'd never done anything like this before but we were taught how to do everything and what to do if we fell off. As it was monsoon season the team knew which way to go so that we had fun but were in no danger, telling us when we should paddle hard to hit the biggest waves was impressive knowledge. I would recommend to everyone for such a great two days.

HI Conner Thanks for your review, we really appreciate you taking the time. We are so pleased you had such a great experience with us. Hello. We are looking for a rafting trip. 1or 2 days on Trishuli. And we would like to go to pokhara or chitwan after. Without coming back to Kathmandu. Is that possible?

Hi My son and I would like to do a 2 day rafting and Canyon trip. We fly into Kathmandu on Tuesday 20th March 1430 and need to be back in Kathmandu on Thursday 21st for a flight on Friday. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance
Preyesh.

Hi Preyesh, I'm afraid you probably don't have time to do both activities as they take a full day and are around a 3-4 hour drive from Kathmandu. What time is your flight on the Friday? I think it will be too tight on time. You could do one or the other however. If you want to discuss further please email us and I'll happily answer any questions you have. Thanks. Maila

Hey, I am planning a trip to pokhara and I am really interested in the 2 night's camp. However, I am not able to reach GRG via email. Anyone having this issue? Is there any other way to contact them?

How Far is this placed rom Kathmandu main city? What is the rafting stretch in kilometres?

Hi Rajat, We offer many trips on different rivers all over Nepal. Our most popular day trip is on the Trisuli river, which is around 3 hours from Kathmandu.
The distance we raft depends on the season, but on average it is around 30km. During the monsoon, this can be much further.

Hi Mahen, Yes we can take children but only on certain rivers. The youngest we have taken before is a 4 year old on the Lower Seti. As long as our child lifejackets fit correctly (and we can add crotch straps for extra safety) then we are happy to take them. Send me an email and let me know how old they are an I will send you our recommendations. Many thanks.
