My friend Scott Hartman and I. We went to Poon Hill Trekking. We originated our trip with Adventure Gorkhaland Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd. Sushil Panta arranged a fantastic 5 days trek to Poon Hill and a privet car, and Hotel, to Pokhara at an excellent price.
Our guide was very helpful and conscientious and the accommodation booked along the way was more than enough. Highly recommend.

Best trekking team in Nepal .
We had an amazing time trekking in ABC Trek with our guide Pasang Sherpa and porter Ram Gc. These guys put in work day and night to make sure we were safe and comfortable in the cold December and Pasang^s knowledge of the mountain was outstanding.Pasang was very friendly ... The company have also been extremely easy to communicate with in the lead up to our trek and everything was put together as planned and met our expectations....... Surely will remember you guys for upcoming treks.........

This is the second time I have used this company and it has been an absolute pleasure in dealing with them. All of my questions were answered speedily and nothing was too much trouble for them. I was welcomed at the airport and delivered to my hotel in no time at all. Everyone at the company that I met was so knowledgeable and friendly. Every detail of my stay was spot on. Well done.

It’s been a wonderful trekking experience doing the Annapurna Base Camp trek. Very easy to organise thanks to this amazing company. Also it’s worth to mention Guide Chhongba Sherpa, he has been brilliant and the best guide I could have had in this trek. He knows so much and he is very helpful. Thanks for all Mr. Sherpa!

Excellent and well-coordinated ground handling and trek operators .Always have some add on over the agreed to make one feel special. The office with v courteous staff in Thamel, a central place, helps to feel more at ease for any immediate assistance and reach outs. The travel executives and guides are courteous and very supportive . The wide offering and the detailing of the itinerary is excellent.

It was a really amazing trek to Manaslu circuit, organized by this company. Everything was great: accommodation, food, etc. Especially worth mentioning is our guide Chongba. Chongba is a professional in his field and also a very cheerful and friendly person. He knows the route very well and is always ready to help. Thank you so much for organizing this trip!

You must be wondering why the title is so weird ? What has to do with the review for a trekking ? Well….you have to read till the last sentence to find the reason.
After a little bit of online research, I came across this agency Gorkha International Travel in Thamel [heaven for all trekking requirements in Kathmandu]. Lots of positive reviews..blah..blah…

With much hope and excitement I wrote to them outlining my requirements of 2 pax trekking to Everest Base Camp [EBC]. To my surprise I got a reply within a few minutes and within few hours [not days] I got a quote which was reasonable and I accepted the deal without much fuss [read negotiation].

A guide was assigned to us who came to receive us at Kathmandu airport. The next day I went to their office and made the full payment towards the trip [an all inclusive trip including flight, food, stay etc.]. During the first meeting, Mr. Susil Pant, Owner welcomed us and gave a lecture on how his agency is different from others, how client’s safety is the most important thing for them, how they go out of way to help their clients etc. He was sounding very sweet to us.

The next day afternoon we were supposed to start for Ramechhap [4 hours drive in a shared private vehicle] for our onward flight to Lukla. Mr Pant called in the morning and requested to come to his office. And the story starts from there.
He says that we were to join another group of trekkers from UK. But due to bad weather, the group missed their flight in Dubai. Since they can’t join, he can not arrange a private vehicle for us. He demanded either we pay for a private vehicle or go by public bus to Ramechhap [BTW, you need to see the conditions of public buses in Nepal to understand what I am talking about]. It was shocking. How does it matter to us if a group is joining us or not. A deal is a deal. How can you even think of going back on your written proposal ? When I flatly refused, he agreed to send a private car for us, but not before doing/proposing the following cost cutting measure.
- He suddenly changed the guide [in stead told us that another guide would take care of us in Lukla] to save on the flight cost of the guide
- Suggested that we skip the extra day for acclimatization day in Namche Bazar since we seem to be looking fit [remember the first day speech when he emphasized on safety] which I flatly refused.

Anyway, that’s how our trip started with a very sour note. But the trek to EBC turned out to be a flawless one thanks to our new guide Dawa and the porter Nima. Both are very sweet fellows. Dawa who is a trained guide, took excellent care of us throughout the trip and gave us good company by sharing many information about Himalayan area.

On the return day from Lukla, I texted him requesting for a vehicle from Ramechhap to Kathmandu [as per original proposal, we were supposed to take a bus ride but alongwith the guide] as there was no guide accompanying us and it would be very difficult to manage things on our own in a foreign land and such a remote place. He demanded money [NPR 8K] for sending a private car to which I had no option but to accept. He then informed that he would come to receive us personally which I found to be a nice gesture. But later I found out that he used this occasion to conduct his business deal on the way which I was sponsoring. But the story didn’t end here. Basically I was following his meeting schedule which was so frustrating.

And now the most interesting story. While we were having lunch, he told us how the fishes which are caught from the nearby river are very fresh and the hotel where we were having lunch makes so delicious food. So he called one of the waiter and placed an order for fish item and left for his business meeting. After an hour we left that place for Kathmandu with the beautiful memory of the fish item which never arrived 😊

My husband and I did the Ghorepani/ Poon Hill Trek. Our Sherpa, Pasang, made our trip unforgettable. He was very kind, funny, and knowledgeable. He has trekked all over Nepal and he is very skilled. During our trek, he made arrangements for us to stay in a very nice and clean tea house that had great food. Besides the amazing views, one of my favorite parts of our trip was how Pasang and Dawah hung out with us during our down time and even ate with us. I didn’t see this with any other tour group on the trail. During this time, they shared many wonderful stories and pictures of the treks they have done all over Nepal. Unfortunately, I had some ongoing health issues that made it so we had to end our trek early. Pasang was very quick to make arrangements so I could get back safely and looked after me very well. I knew I was in good hands. I would highly recommend booking a trek with Pasang as he is highly skilled, attentive, and fun to hang out with!

I reached out to Gorkha one year ahead to arrange for the trip after I went through a list of approved agencies from Nepal government website. The MD Susil is a nice person and very responsive to all my questions via emails. We finalized the trip booking and made payment for return Lukla flight pretty quickly. About a year later I contacted Susil again when the trip was near and some changes were made due to Kathmandu airport maintenance schedule and arrangement were already made to transfer me to Manthali airport (peace of mind for me as I didn’t need to deal with all the changes). One comment on the transport from Kathmandu to Manthali though, the driver was like a Fast & Furious driver, pretty scary though as he maneuvered around the mountain road. No issue with the return transfer from Manthali to Kathmandu as the driver was different and he was very careful and drove slowly around the mountain road (we saw a bus plunged into cliff and that reminded me how dangerous it was when I was being transferred from Kathmandu to Manthali).

Upon arriving at Lukla I met with my guide who doubled as my porter, Chhongba Sherpa. My combined bags weight was less than 15kg so I moved out critical items into my daypack while the rest in my guide’s backpack. He was very helpful and also helped to take photographs for me (I should have left my tripod at home to reduce weight :p ). He took good care of me especially when I felt sick at Namche Bazaar due to dehydration. The reason I went for solo trek with a guide was to avoid peer pressure and that was a good example. We progressed slowly at a pace which I was comfortable with and he constantly “pulse check” with me along the way on how I felt and always reminded me to drink water. Thank you Chhongba Sherpa!! We made it to the EBC eventually!!
