I have now completed two treks with Chandra Subba and his Himalayan Icefall Trekking, the Manaslu Trek in 2018 and in December 2022 the Poon Hill Trek with my family of four: Our two boys Sascha and Nicolai aged 13 and 16, and my wife Alex. Once again everything was perfectly arranged and prepared, and my family and I could thus enjoy every minute of our time in Nepal from arrival to departure, including the trek itself. Chandra Subba ist one of the few trekking guides in Nepal who has been guiding treks for over 40 years and he thus has a huge range of experience which many younger guides simply do not have. Chandra over the years has built up amazingly wide network of relationships with guest houses, porters, bus and taxi drivers as well as merchants in all trekking regions of Nepal and he can therefore find and offer services that not many other guides have access to. Together with his very able and observant Assistant Guide Ajit Maharjan, who has had many years of experience in Nepal's hospitality sector, they form a fantastic team which turns trekking into an absolute pleasure. For myself and my family Nepal has been an unforgettable and frankly humbling experience, thanks to Chandra and Ajit from Himalayan Icefall Trekking. We will be back in Nepal as soon as we can!

I recently made my first trip to Nepal and trekked to the Annapurna Base Camp, Khopra Ridge and Moharei with Himalayan Icefall Trekking, with a few days of sightseeing in the Kathmandu area afterwards. This certainly won't be my last trip with them! My guides Chandra and Agit took great care of me from when I arrived at the airport to when I left. The trip was flat-out fantastic!!! Everything went smoothly, which suggests a lot of careful preparation. Throughout the trip, Chandra and Agit treated me kindly, took excellent care of me, were great company, and gave me such interesting insights into the local culture! With their careful assessment of the kitchens at each tea house, I never had any of the stomach problems that so many travellers experience. Agit turned out to be a born naturalist, and thanks to his sharp hearing and eyesight, I saw a lot of wildlife during the trek. After we returned from the trek, they took me to cultural sights including the International Mountain Museum in Pokhara and some of the stunning UNESCO world heritage sites in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur, which was a great complement to the trek. While I don't do much shopping, they made it clear that if I wanted to make any major purchases, they'd help with the haggling, and had secured favorable prices for previous clients. I feel very lucky to have taken this trip with them, and I'm already looking forward to the next one!

This was my first, and certain won't be the last, experience of trekking with Himalayan Icefall Trekking. To say it was an absolutely unforgettable experience would almost be an understatement. Chandra and the entire team of guides and porters were just amazing and beyond accomodating throughout the entire trek. I feel like I have made life long connections with each one of them.
This was my first time ever doing a serious trek longer than a day (Our trek was to Kanchenjunga Base Camp - our total trek was about 16 days ), and it couldn't have been a better experience for me. Everything was so well taken care of and planned by Chandra and HIT from arrival in Kathmandu and the two incredible days of being shown the city and its many cultural attractions, to the entire trek itself. Not at any point did I feel uncomfortable, unsafe or worried throughout the journey because of how well everything was handled by HIT.
Our guides, Chandra, Ajit and Nahindra are some of the kindest, most genuine humans I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and I am honoured to have been able to go through this incredible trekking experience with them leading us. Again, being a first time trekker it can feel very overwhelming and daunting to go through such a journey, but they made sure everything was taken care of and that the whole experience was as comfortable as possible.
I am forever grateful for their service and for giving me the opportunity to have such a great first trekking experience, especially to have done this with my dad and our incredible trekking group, which is a bucket list item I can now cross off - truly something special and unforgettable.
I am already looking forward to planning my next trek in Nepal and will look no further than Chandra and Himalayan Icefall Trekking. Thank you again so much for the unforgettable memories and experiences, for being so welcoming and kind, and for providing a service that goes far beyond expectations!
I could not give a higher recommendation of their company and service, they are absolutely fantastic and set a standard beyond expectations.

I was one of 7 people on the Millennium Trek lead by Himalayan Icefall Trekking owner, Chandra, and the assistant manager Agit. As described by Gary M in his comprehensive and excellent review of our trek/trip, the entire experience could not have been better thanks to Chandra and Agit’s expert planning and support throughout. Every detail was taken care of.
I especially appreciated my talks with Chandra and Ajit along the trek as I learned so much and gained a deeper understanding of the country and the people.
I would never consider going with any other trekking company!

Our group of 7 friends did a lowlands (6,000ft or 1800m) trek along the Millennium trail for 6 days which was stunningly beautiful. Every campsite has expansive views of the Himalayas (Dhaliguri, Annapurnas, Machapuchare...), hikes through small villages and no other trekkers but our group. This was an easy hike of 5-6 hours a day for the most part and gave us time to explore the surroundings and talk with the folks in the villages. The hike was excellently planned (as we wanted an easy hike), the staff always friendly and extremely helpful, the food was satisfying and healthy and the communications prior to and during the trip excellent. We also used Chandra (Himalayan Icefall Trekking) for 4+ days of local touring around Kathmandu and Pokhara visiting sites. We've done other trips with Chandra and I wouldn't use anyone else. Chandra knows how to put together a trip that meets needs, fits your traveling style (easy, medium or hard trekking), tents to tea house staying, and builds a team that makes the trip safe and enjoyable.

We were so happy with the care and attention to every detail of this trek company. Ajit and Chandra are amazing guides and we felt safe and in good hands always. Although we were concerned we could do the trek (due to knee problems and altitude), we got encouragement and support throughout. Our highest recommendation.

Let me start off by saying that I would highly recommend Himalayan Icefall trekking to guide you on your Nepal trek. First a little background on how I found Chandra and his company in the first place. My daughter attends Hamilton College in upstate N.Y. She took a class in Himalayan mountaineering (don't get me started there), but as part of the class, there was an optional trip to go trekking in the Annapurna region of Nepal, which she eagerly took advantage of. Her school uses Chandra and his team for their student treks and she told me about her great experience. So, when it was time for the rest of our family to go on our Nepal adventure, it was clear that Himalayan Icefall Trekking would be our choice of guide. Now, being the kind of person I am, I still did quite a bit of online research and compared the itinerary that Chandra proposed to the other guided trips. There are a few things I noticed that totally sealed the deal for me. First, most of the guided trips took an 8 hour bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara, while we took at 30 minute plane ride which was included in the price. We still had to take a 3 hour jeep ride when we arrived at Pokhara, which those taking the bus would also have to do. Second, most of the trips travel in one direction and end up at a hot spring, where Chandra's itinerary went the opposite direction and skipped the hot spring. The first part of our trip was uncrowded and while there was certainly uphill hiking, it was not too bad. The end of our trip, which is where most people start had us going down stairs for hours (which means that the other trips would start their trip going up stairs for hours.) As Chandra explained, the hot springs were not that exciting and did not really have a view. Okay, sold on his trip.
Pretrip: Being the neurotic traveler I am, I had many pre-trip questions for Chandra and he answered them all patiently and responsively with his emails. Originally, Chandra was going to guide us himself, but when the Hamilton group signed up and their trip overlapped ours, he of course had to guide them and he provide us two other excellent guides.
The trip: Chandra and our main guide met us at the airport upon arrival and shuttled us to the Summit hotel. We got in late and did not get to appreciate the hotel, but when we stayed there on our return to Kathmandu, we really appreciated the hotel and the grounds. The While Pearl, where we stayed in Pokhara was also really nice.
Our two guides and two porters took excellent care of us throughout the trip. When he learned that there was an Avalanche at Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), our guide Pema explained our options and proposed an alternative route. My daughters trip several years earlier ran into the same issue and they ended up doing the same route we did. The Hamilton class that followed us though had better conditions and were able to get to ABC. Because we had to change our route, our trekking days were shorter, 3-5 hours vs. 7-8 hours, but in hindsight, this might not have been the worst thing since my wife and I are in our mid 50s. The trek to ABC would have taken some serious uphill hiking and while we would have made it, we would have been pretty wiped. I would definitely bring a book and some cards so you have something to do with your downtime.
Just to give you an example of the type of excellent service provided, my wife was struggling some days and our guides carried her day-pack for her. On another day, as we were slogging up a particularly grueling uphill section, one of the porters came running back down the trail (the porters would go ahead and beat us to the tea house) with a refreshing lemon drink giving us just the boost we needed to finish the hike. While the tea houses throughout the region (where you eat and sleep) are pretty basic, our guides went out of their way to get us rooms with private bathrooms and showers (when they were available). They went out of their way to make our trip as positive as possible.
After our trekking, we were met by a guide who took us on a half-day city tour of Kathmandu. It was fascinating learning about the city and seeing famous temples and Stupas.
Our trip was a little shorter than they recommend because our time was limited, but Chandra was able to adapt the itinerary to meet our needs.
All in all, it was a great trip and I highly recommend using Chandra and his firm if you want to take a guided trek in Nepal.

I have now trekked with Himalayan Icefall Trekking (HIT) twice - Manaslu Circuit with Tsum Valley in 2018 and Kangchenjunga base camp in 2023 - and can highly recommend them. They are
a great trekking company, taking care of all the important aspects for a high altitude trek in the Himalayas. Exciting routes, experienced guides, reliable porters, comfortable tea houses.
The personal attention and participation in the trek of MD Chandra Subba adds to a unique peace-of-mind experience. You are welcomed at Kathmandu airport and taken on a cultural tour of this enigmatic city’s landmarks and sights, before heading for the mountains. Chandra and his team also advise on - and take you to - reliable outlets where to buy additional gear that you may need for the trek. You don’t need to worry about any of the logistical arrangements for the trek as that is all taken good care of by HIT. No hidden costs, no unexpected changes. And they are flexible in making adjustments to the itinerary when circumstances demand this.
During the last trek I got a bad cold early on and was too weak to continue with the group. Chandra left a guide and porter to look after me at the tea house where I was convalescing. They nursed and fed me back to life in two days, and I was able to catch up with the group who had been acclimatising at a higher altitude, to make it all the way to base camp and subsequently over the Selele/Sinion/Mirgin/Sinelapche passes - what an inspiring experience!!
