My name is Kazik Pichlak. I am a medical doctor, general and oncologic surgeon, with the passion for exploring all possible mountains in the world, but particularly Himalaya. In Nepal, I have been 16 times. I cooperate with Mr Chandra and his agency Himalayan Icefall Trekking for many years. He arranged for me and my friends 10 trekkings to different parts of Himalaya and Tibet. Some of them were standard trekkings, but some were very challenging to remote parts of Himalaya or, for example, with the passes above 6000 metres. All of these were always under the wing of Chandra agency. Twice I had serious health problems. Mr Chandra organized very effective help immediately – evacuation from mountain area by helicopter. All our trekkings were arranged perfectly. Mr Chandra and his agency’s team are the experts in leading excellent, unforgettable Himalaya trips. I recommend with all my heart Mr Chandra’s agency. He and his team guarantee the best service when exploring Himalaya.

For trekking or traveling in Nepal, I recommend the guiding services of Chandra Subba and his excellent small local Nepalese company, Himalayan Icefall Trekking. Chandra is a great person: thoughtful, conscientious, and easy going. He loves trekking and sharing his knowledge of Nepal, which makes a trip with him very fun and memorable. After leading several Himalayan expeditions myself, including the first American ascent of Annapurna I, I can attest to Chandra’s outstanding qualities as a leader and organizer. He is an especially good guide for student groups. I first met Chandra when my daughter attended 8th grade at the Lincoln School in Kathmandu, Nepal, and he was the guide selected by the expat community to lead the 8th grade students on a week-long “Explore Nepal” trek. The students and parents really appreciated Chandran’s thoughtful planning and leadership. From 2000 until December 2018, I've enjoyed a dozen diverse trekking adventures in Nepal with Chandra. He always provides great food, gear, and guides as well as personalized itineraries and attention for individual travelers and small and large groups. His company is a good choice for any individual, school, group or family that wants to enjoy their own trek with a personal itinerary at a relatively low cost.

We trekked to Annapurna Base Camp from Pokhara with a group of 12 college students/leaders. Chandra and A.J. were our guides, and they created an incredible trekking experience for us. They were constantly attentive and caring in their treatment of us along the way, and made every effort to make us comfortable and ensure that we had the best experience we could possibly have. I would recommend Himalayan Icefall Trekking to anyone looking to have a perfect trekking experience in Nepal. The guides and porters were kind and thoughtful throughout our two week trek, and made sure that every single aspect of our travel and day to day trekking went extraordinarily smoothly. They made sure we were safe, well fed, and always happy! Not to mention, we reached Annapurna Base Camp!!! Chandra is an absolute expert and a joy to be around, and his assistant guides all speak many languages very fluently, and are extremely fun to talk to, they are genuinely kind people! Could not ask for a better guided trip. THANK YOU!!!

Let me start off by saying that I would highly recommend Himalayan Icefall trekking to guide you on your Nepal trek. First a little background on how I found Chandra and his company in the first place. My daughter attends Hamilton College in upstate N.Y. She took a class in Himalayan mountaineering (don't get me started there), but as part of the class, there was an optional trip to go trekking in the Annapurna region of Nepal, which she eagerly took advantage of. Her school uses Chandra and his team for their student treks and she told me about her great experience. So, when it was time for the rest of our family to go on our Nepal adventure, it was clear that Himalayan Icefall Trekking would be our choice of guide. Now, being the kind of person I am, I still did quite a bit of online research and compared the itinerary that Chandra proposed to the other guided trips. There are a few things I noticed that totally sealed the deal for me. First, most of the guided trips took an 8 hour bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara, while we took at 30 minute plane ride which was included in the price. We still had to take a 3 hour jeep ride when we arrived at Pokhara, which those taking the bus would also have to do. Second, most of the trips travel in one direction and end up at a hot spring, where Chandra's itinerary went the opposite direction and skipped the hot spring. The first part of our trip was uncrowded and while there was certainly uphill hiking, it was not too bad. The end of our trip, which is where most people start had us going down stairs for hours (which means that the other trips would start their trip going up stairs for hours.) As Chandra explained, the hot springs were not that exciting and did not really have a view. Okay, sold on his trip. Pretrip: Being the neurotic traveler I am, I had many pre-trip questions for Chandra and he answered them all patiently and responsively with his emails. Originally, Chandra was going to guide us himself, but when the Hamilton group signed up and their trip overlapped ours, he of course had to guide them and he provide us two other excellent guides. The trip: Chandra and our main guide met us at the airport upon arrival and shuttled us to the Summit hotel. We got in late and did not get to appreciate the hotel, but when we stayed there on our return to Kathmandu, we really appreciated the hotel and the grounds. The While Pearl, where we stayed in Pokhara was also really nice. Our two guides and two porters took excellent care of us throughout the trip. When he learned that there was an Avalanche at Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), our guide Pema explained our options and proposed an alternative route. My daughters trip several years earlier ran into the same issue and they ended up doing the same route we did. The Hamilton class that followed us though had better conditions and were able to get to ABC. Because we had to change our route, our trekking days were shorter, 3-5 hours vs. 7-8 hours, but in hindsight, this might not have been the worst thing since my wife and I are in our mid 50s. The trek to ABC would have taken some serious uphill hiking and while we would have made it, we would have been pretty wiped. I would definitely bring a book and some cards so you have something to do with your downtime. Just to give you an example of the type of excellent service provided, my wife was struggling some days and our guides carried her day-pack for her. On another day, as we were slogging up a particularly grueling uphill section, one of the porters came running back down the trail (the porters would go ahead and beat us to the tea house) with a refreshing lemon drink giving us just the boost we needed to finish the hike. While the tea houses throughout the region (where you eat and sleep) are pretty basic, our guides went out of their way to get us rooms with private bathrooms and showers (when they were available). They went out of their way to make our trip as positive as possible. After our trekking, we were met by a guide who took us on a half-day city tour of Kathmandu. It was fascinating learning about the city and seeing famous temples and Stupas. Our trip was a little shorter than they recommend because our time was limited, but Chandra was able to adapt the itinerary to meet our needs. All in all, it was a great trip and I highly recommend using Chandra and his firm if you want to take a guided trek in Nepal.

We had an fantastic time trekking with Himalyan Icefall. Two of us, fit but in our sixties, did the Helambu trek, with our guide Narendra, and porter Sanjeep. These guys took great care of us, and ensured we had the best possible experience. Our trek was 6 days/5 nights, and at the highest elevation at Therapati, there was recent snowfall. A typical day began with 7am breakfast, a few hours hiking followed by a lunch at a teahouse along the way, and hiking in the afternoon. We usually arrived at our lodging with free time before dinner. The meals were all tasty, freshly prepared and healthy (except for the occasional Snickers bar!). Our guide Narendra was friendly, with a nice sense of humor. He expertly handled all the arrangements for lodging and meals. We enjoyed talking with him, and gaining some insight into Nepalese culture and life. An unexpected pleasure was listening to music with Sanjeep—he’s a rapper, a future music producer, as well as a great porter. We were in awe of the load he carried with his tumpline—two waterproof duffles filled with most of our gear. As well as our trek, Himalyan Icefall’s owner Chandra Subba arranged for an great day tour of Kathmandu, with a knowledgable guide, and our lodging at the beautiful Summit Hotel. He even invited us for a delicious home-cooked meal at his house; Chandra’s warmth and hospitality was extraordinary. I heartily recommend Himalayan Icefall Trekking!
