This was our first trip to Nepal. Raby was recommended to us by an acquaintance who had been in Nepal over a dozen of times as being ‘the best guide he ever had.’ After have been gone on a trip with Raby I can see why. Raby is not only professional but he is also extremely funny, understands sarcasm, up for a serious conversation, helpful and just a general great guy with a kind heart. When you are “stuck” with your guide for ten days, like we were, having a professional guide who also happens to have a great personality is just a great bliss that makes the experience ten times the better. I can honestly not recommend Raby enough. And if you are still reading this and have not decided yet I can promise you: you will feel the same after.

Having traveled in over 50 countries including numerous treks, the trek I did with Raby (JRN Treks and Expeditions) in Upper Mustang was the best guided experience so far. Raby was not only a professional and honest guide he was a travel companion that made us laugh. His knowledge regarding routing, terrain, english language and culture enriched the former buddhist kingdom of Mustang. During our trek Raby made sure we didn’t have to worry about logistics or any hassle that we try to escape from back home. Surely you made our trek better than what we could have hoped for. Raby thank you for all we learned from you! All the best for you and your beautiful family.

We had a perfect trip with Raby as our guide. He is caring and careful. A true expert in the mountains. Helped not only us, but also people who happened to be nearby. We loved his insight in and stories about Nepalese culture. We had fun and were serious when necessary. Thanks Raby for what you did for us.

Although I have done many solo treks in Nepal before, this was the first time we decided to hire a guide and porter. The Great Himalayan Trail (GHT) is a not often trekked trail so routefinding and arranging accomodation might be more difficult. Especially in these Covid-years, which have caused many lodges to close. Raby was recommended to us by a friend who has worked for many years with him, so we knew already that this would be a safe and good choice. It is almost impossible to put in words the wonderful time we spent on the trail for almost 40 days. It felt like we were a real team of explorers, setting out to discover this unknown trail in the far east of Nepal. It was truly a unique experience and although some parts of the trail were also new to Raby it was great to see how he picked up the trail after asking directions from locals. And he proved of great value with arranging accomodation in remote area's! What was especially great was the great conversations we had, that went so much deeper than superficial chit chat. Very important when you live so close with each other for so long. Raby speaks very good english and is very eager to learn new things. That is not to say we didn't have many laughs over silly things and jokes :-) Besides his technical guiding skills, Raby has also exceptional socal skills, which helps tremendously in dealing with the quirks of (western) customers. Also it is a joy to see him play with chilldren along the way. For people interested in walking the GHT (do it now before this trail is lost because of the road construction everywhere that will change the land and habits of people forever...) it's good to know that Raby now has great knowledge and experience with the remote eastern sections of this trek! Last but not least, let's not forget Bishnu, a long time partner of Raby. What a strong and sweet man, also with a great sense of humor The interaction between these guys is very assuring. They both are very experienced and know what to do to give you a great experience. The four of us spent many evenings playing carts and joking around. It was really fun to do this adventure with Raby and Bishnu and we are very glad that we made the decicion to go with a guide and porter this time! Hope you guys stay safe and happy and that we can continue the adventure later this year!

We planned to hike the Great Himalyan lower Trail. Luckily we were recommendated to hire a guide and specifically Raby. This was the very best thing we could do. When we started we knew he never had hiked in most of the regions we would cross. And that in the trip we all needed to improvise together with Vishnu. They did a tremendous job in path finding as some trails had literally vanished during the years the little booklet we followed had been published. They always took care of our welfare. Even when they had to find sleeping places where also home-stays and guesthouses had vanished, due to the hard Coivd times last year. They talked with the people, convinced them to take us in. Taking care that people made food for us on the way, which would have been almost impossible to arrange ourselves. And we could feel it was all done by their hearts. And there was plenty time for playing, for good conversations about almost everything and lots of help. They kept the spirit high! And last but not least: it is completely thanks to Raby that we just returned in time to Kathmandu. We had to break up our first 40 days stretch just two days before the end. He noticed the news and before we even knew he had already managed to arrange jeeps for us to return safely before the second lockdown started. It is just in the small things the true guides stand forward and we had all the smalls together. So we had a beautiful, unforgettable and taking care of experience in places that tourists still have to discover. And JRN concerns even stretches beyond. During this lockdown we are still in closely contact. I really can do nothing else than to highly recommend JRN travels for its organizational and improvisation talents, its patience, its thinking in advance and the good spirit and contacts with both customers as locals to meet on the way.
