Now that we are all in "lockdown" I'm sustained by my wonderful memories of a" once in a lifetime" trek in Nepal with my daughter in November 2019. Earthbound Expeditions and director Rajan Simkhada ensured a memorable trip to this beautiful country. Pre-trip communication with Rajan was easy and his responses always prompt and helpful. We were in the expert care of guide Devendra and porter Pemba who looked after our every need, their friendly company and local knowledge gave us a great insight into the Nepali way of life.

I hope to inform you of things that you can do so your experience will be just as beautiful as mine. I am an athletic 33 year old male. I came with my dad who is 64 years old and in good shape. The hiking was fairly easy. The mountains were breathtaking. The monkeys in the trees were fun to watch. We came in mid March so the Rhododendron trees were beginning to show their colors. Our guide was Namaraj (Nama), who spoke good English and who was very informative about the mountains and scenery, along with the giving us background on the people of Nepal and their culture. My favorite part of the hiking was walking through the villages. I wish I would have brought school supplies to give to the school up in the mountain or to give to some children we passed on the trail. We had wifi at every place we stayed each night. Very inexpensive. We had warm showers as well. We were awakened one night from a little earthquake. Our guide moved us into a more secure living quarters. Our guide, Nama, was wonderful! Most people speak English, but the locals love it if you can say a couple of things in Nepali.

Honestly this was a great experience. From the second we got off the plane in Kathmandu (daunting) Earthbound Ex was there! Our guide/interpreter, Shree, was awesome! He walked along with us and was able to speak all the local dialects. He also spoke very good English and greased all the teahouses so we always had good accommodations. At the end Earthbound sends you off with a traditional Nepalese meal and a bunch of swag. It was really all first rate!

We made our second trip to Nepal with Earthbound Expeditions. Our first was 10 years ago and was great. Our most recent trip was just as memorable and equally as well-organized. We were a group of 10 and did a 6-day trek to the Langtang Area (up to Gosaikunda and over the pass) over New Year’s followed by a couple of days in Kathmandu. Pre-trip, Raj is great. He answered every email with our questions almost instantly no matter how detailed. On arrival late at night, we were met at the airport, taken to our hotel. At the hotel when we arrived, were extra duffel bags, sleeping bags, snow caps, and one down jacket that we asked for at the last minute. Having this there allowed us to complete our packing for the trek which would start the next day. Raj met us early the next morning to introduce us to our tour guide, Gokal, and head porter, Cerkey Sherpa, brief us on the trek and then see us off. Gokal, our guide, was excellent as were the porters - always with a smile on their face as they lugged our bags up and down the mountains. During the trek, most of us experienced some minor altitude sickness combined with cold temperatures (-15C) and Gokal took good care of us. He even had an oxygen monitor that went on your finger that he used on us. We all fought through it (encouraged by Gokal and Cerkey) and made it over the pass and immediately felt better as we descended. The trek itself was great with amazing views, diverse landscapes, and lots of snow. We hardly saw anyone else on the trails given it was offseason. We had an excellent guide in Kathmandu who showed us around for the day. He was knowledgeable and informative and fun. I would not hesitate to book with Earthbound Expeditions. It is an exceptional company that really does care about your experience. A lot of companies say that but they walk the walk with highly personalized service.
