Even you may not be a particular textile specialist or interested person, you may still find it interesting to look into how the locals live and work in the same building.
It is actually a small building where they live and work and cook on the ground floor, and sell the colorful handcrafts on the second floor. On the ground floor, you can see different rooms, with their kids lying on the floor playing, while the females are working. In the weaving room, you will see a few of the skilled ladies weaving to make the textiles for sale on the second floor.
I was particularly interested to see how they cooked as it was almost lunch time. An opportunity to mingle into their daily life.

We enjoyed stopping here and seeing the weavers in action. Such amazing work. And then you are able to purchase some of the wares.

we stopped here and watched 4 different weavers weave intricate silk patterns using a backstrap loom, to make kira’s, the psychedelic and elegant native Bhutanese dress for women. quality is top notch and include museum quality pieces( as well as a wide variety of other price points. I enjoyed it so much i came back to purchase a good piece after dreaming about it all night. a great place to learn about this important part of Bhutanese culture.

We were keen on seeing kushuthara and other weaving techniques after visiting the Textile Museum. Eastern Bhutan is renowned for weaving but we were not going there so this was an alternative, popular with guides and tourists.
There are sections of three to four women in each part weaving different styles. I am told it was a coop but i think the weavers actually are working for the company and get paid per job lot: my assumption.
Fabrics are simply beautiful, prices are simply astronomical for the full length pieces. I was told that anything worth its value is priced high as Chinese tourists are willing to pay any price! This really spoils the market for others. We bought a table runner and a scarf. There is a big collection of different items and i wish that prices had been more reasonable. The only saving grace was that they accept credit cards: you will find this only at high end shops. Everywhere else, its cash, cash and only cash.
Do visit this place as it has some well woven fabrics : see if you cannot buy. Its a visual treat.

A really good selection of weaving, hats and quality souvenirs. They have a good phone connection for payment too.

It was a great way to see how the national dress is actually made. You can see the women weaving both simple and complex patterns. Then you can see it all put together. They will let you try on, they dress you, in the national dress. It was quite fun to see all of the pieces together. For a more reasonable price, and easier to take home, you can also purchase scarves, place mats, table runners, and anything else that is made at the center.

A quick tour to this center. Fabric weaved with vibrant colors. A simple 3 color weave take 2-3 weeks, those with more complex designs take 6-8 months to complete. Truly a piece of art.

This center has 3 or 4 weavers working on traditional Bhutanese cloth at all times. The work is intricate and fascinating. Upstairs is a shop to purchase traditional clothing, scarves and tchotchkes. Prices are fair.

This is where a traveller will see women weaving the traditional Bhutanese clothes of all kinds. They also have a finished product showroom upstairs where you can have a look and also buy some if you are interested.

I often have reservations about these ‘local craft’ places to which we are regularly taken by our guides on our international travels, but I was quite happy to go here as the Bhutanese seem very genuine and there was no sign of the normal pressure selling.
It was great to see the weavers at work downstairs - my wife liked the products upstairs enough to buy something as a memento (although she was a lot less impressed with the adjacent art gallery).
