Travel in cars, not a bus, and go where others don't. Fifteen days in country--we traverse the entire country and exit to Guwhati airport in India. We are the hosts of two private festivals and we have access to temples and dressing rooms where we can take pictures. Then enjoy a picnic lunch that we sponsor with over 100 villagers. We believe in community tourism and emerse you in Bhutanese culture, religion, flaura and fauna. Just visit our web site at RainbowPhotoTours, you won't be disappointed.

I still chuckle to myself when I see one after another itinerary that simply cover the touristy western 1/3 of the country and then race back to Paro on the same road to get to the only international airport in Bhutan. NO ONE but Rainbow Photo Tours does it with the routing and logistics that took us all the way... More

BEWARE…You just might have the trip of a lifetime. At least, that was the case for my wife and I. I am a SUPER HAPPY September 2015 client who would give a 6-star rating to Rainbow Tours if I could. ACTIVITY LEVEL: EASY, with the exception of Tiger’s Nest. If you cannot take an uphill hike, simply skip Tiger’s Nest.... More

The coverage of Bhutan couldn't be better. Same with the guides and drivers. The problems I found with this tour are: 1. No information was given about how strenuous this tour was except the climb to Tiger's Nest. This is a very strenuous tour. 2. The food at each meal was a buffet with mostly all the same dishes which... More

Bhutan is an expensive country to travel to for a good reason and their government wants to keep it that way—it’s not for every budget. In the 1970s when the King first decided to open to the West, he smartly devised a policy of "High value, low impact" tourism. He theorized that higher cost would attract more mature tourists, less... More

Travelled with them in October 2013 and this review is long overdue. Thank you for a wonderful experience of Bhutan. The lodging provided was excellent and Sonam was a really patient and caring guide. They also brought us to have delicious and authentic local meals at restaurants throughout my tour. Sonam and the driver did not want to accept my... More

Our group of 8 from Vancouver Canada (all seniors) joined Robin’s Rainbow Bhutan Cross Country Tour in October 2105. We all agree it was one of the best tours we have ever taken in our life so far. We all thoroughly enjoyed the whole tour and felt it was really far beyond our expectation. We thank Robin for this well-organized... More

Rainbow Photo Tours of Bhutan provides an exceptional experience. The attention and care given us by our guides and drivers was outstanding. When I explain to people how wonderful they are, one of the things I mention is that we didn’t have 2 people looking after us daily, we had 16. I was particularly impressed and grateful that any guide... More

Rainbow photo and cultural tour is fabulous. Our group were experienced travelers who normally do not go on group tours but we all loved it! (and we keep in touch) Robin and the Bhutan Rainbow staff are great- very knowledgeable- and wonderful people! Bhutan is mystical, beautiful and everything you have heard about it is true. Our tour had so... More

I can’t praise this trip enough. I wish it were the first day. We saw the best of Bhutan and the rest of Bhutan. Tiger’s Nest; Dzongs; Thimphu…standard visits. But we went on to Bhumthang and points east. Magical. I did a lot of research and this is the only Bhutan tour that takes you clear across country in private... More

We've traveled extensively, but this has become our favorite trip to date. Period. Immersive itinerary, AMAZING guides and drivers, and absolutely beautiful people, culture, and nature... For us, Rainbow had the best of many worlds: We got to travel with a group, and yet we traveled with our own private guide and driver, too. How? For meals, we'd meet as... More

I had wanted to join one of Robin Smillie's guided tours, but the timing didn't work out, so I traveled on my own to Bhutan this March/April. Robin was INCREDIBLY helpful to me - connecting me with Rainbow Tours and Treks in Bhutan, reviewing my itinerary, providing photography and cultural advice. couldn't have asked for more. The entire trip exceeded... More
