Our three week early 2020 birding trip could not have been better. We entered Bhutan before the start of the pandemic, but things in the world changed while we were there. Through it all Chubzang ensured that we had our once in a lifetime trip, and enjoyed it beyond expectations. We saw the fantastic birds and enjoyed the amazing cultural sites. Chubzang is certainly one of the best birding guides we've ever been with. He has a perfect eidetic memory of bird calls and songs, and can spot things that us mere humans would never have a chance to find on our own. There are few people on this earth who are as pleasurable to spend three weeks with. And when all hell broke loose with the world-wide pandemic, border closures, cancelled planes, medical clearance exit and entry requirements, and on and on, Chubzang took it all in stride and made it all happen for us to be able to get home. We highly recommend Chubzang Tangbi and Langur Eco Travels.

Langur Eco Travels is well regarded for their expansive birding tours, given the wide variety of birds found in Bhutan’s varied microclimates. However, I want to also say that they are knowledgeable about almost any aspect of Bhutanese culture and natural attractions, and have the ability to customize their trips to whatever your focus may be. My first tour with them was a personalized weaving tour in November 2018 with a group of 3 weavers. The tour travelled the width of Bhutan from the cities to the eastern valleys of various specialized weavers over 3 weeks. We covered the cultural highlights including fantastic Temples and festivals, beautiful flora and fauna, and met many of the best weavers of the various unique styles. Our guide Sonam was knowledgeable, kind, flexible, patient and more.

I enjoyed the trip so much that I booked another trip with Langur Eco Travels ( and Sonam) for January 2020, this time a winter hiking trip with my husband and son and his wife,
. I wanted them to share the culture and beauty of Bhutan. again, a fantastic customized trip. because it was winter, we did not see any other tourists once we left Paro and Thimphu. Many wonderful hikes, but one of my favorites was an overnite camping hike out of their family village near Trongsa. We were the first tourists to hike this route. many members of the village joined us as support ( it takes a village! I am sure we westerners were very entertaining culturally to them). We hiked up to a beautiful overlook, and stayed in tents, the local cooked food was wonderful, and when I was a little chilled, Sonam gave me his fleece blanket, and I slept like a baby!

Bhutan has been “discovered”. You now can choose the luxe option and stay is isolated and cushioned 5 star hotels, or you can go with Langur Eco Tours, and have a customized, intimate and real Bhutanese experience. I highly recommend them, Both Chubzang who organizes every detail, and his brother Sonam who is a wonderful guide ( who has an extra sense to spot animals as well as many other guiding virtues.

I have been to Bhutan 4 times -- and cannot say enough about Chubzang Tangbi and Langur Eco Travels. He is personable, intelligent, kind and endlessly knowlegeable about birding, photography and all things Bhutanese. He also has a great sense of humour! I consider him a dear friend now, as I am sure anyone who has travelled with him does as well. I am a senior citizen, but I would recommend him for families of all sizes and kinds, as well as business groups or solo travellers.

Kardrinchheyla Chubzbang, Sonam and Pinto for making our first visit to Bhutan an experience of lifetime!

It was my first time using a local travel agency directly instead of through a Singapore based agent and we would recommend Langur Eco Travels to everyone for an authentic Bhutanese experience!

The star team attended to all our diva requests including multiple changes to itinerary and flights before our arrival. On arrival, Sonam our guide was knowledgeable and expertly and humorously showed us Bhutan and their way of life. Pinto, our driver kept us safe on our 9 day trip and helped to make our bespoke visits to a monastery and elementary school possible. Additionally, the team also made our impromptu request to check out nightlife and yak burger in Thimpu happen!

I was most touched by the team’s focus on supporting the local community by recommending locally run accomodation, shops and meals which we enjoyed tremendously.

We have to start saving for our next visit to east and central Bhutan!

My husband and I were part of a birdwatching group in March 2019 that was lead by Langur Eco Travels. The guide was Chubchang and he was a great guide with a lovely personality.
All of the accommodation was great, all very well organised.
The cooking crew that was with us did a fantastic job, setting up tables and chairs so that when we were ready to eat they had everything organised. All of the staff were very polite, had great sense of humours and nothing was ever too much trouble. Breakfast at altitude was amazing.
We had a list of over 300 birds seen which included many of the specialties of the country. Chubchang went out of his way to make sure we all saw the birds. He also told us about the cultural side of Bhutan.
I can’t recommend this company enough. Highly recommended.

Langur Eco travels is an outstanding professional organiser of Nature and Birdwatching trips. During a lot of tours organised for my company Blue Elephant since 2012, everything was perfect. I like very much the way Langur Eco Travels constantly improves the quality of the service, with new birding spots and discoveries.

Our 3 week birding and cultural tour of Bhutan in March of 2020 was in a word outstanding. Not only was planning our private tour a joyful ease, Bhutan is a fascinating experience. It's scenic location in the foothills of the Himalaya will provide stunning vistas. The traditional Buddhist culture is well preserved with beautiful dzongs and monasteries. Our guide, Chubzang Tangbi, handled the logistics and the bird guiding. He was superb. Phuntsho was our driver and handled our meals in the field. Both were great companions who took very good care of us throughout. We could not have had a better tour.

We enjoyed a fantastic tour (May 2024) led by Chubzang Tangbi and Jigme Tshering of Langur Eco Travels, and saw an excellent selection of Himalayan birds including many species which are shy and difficult elsewhere in the region. Chubzang and Jigme are outstanding in the field, based on many years of birding and guiding experience. The pheasants, including Satyr Tragopan, Himalayan Monal, and Blood and Kaleej Pheasants, gave excellent views and provided the opportunity for some great photographs. Chubzang is a skilled bird photographer, and was enthusiastic in sharing this experience. All arrangements went extremely smoothly, the accommodation was excellent, and the opportunity to have a comfortable 'breakfast' in the field was the closest to luxury that I have experienced in the Himalayas! Bhutan is a really special place, with pristine forests, great hospitality and some standout cultural sites which we took the opportunity to sample. The flowering rhododendrons were amazing too. We spend a wonderful 21days in Bhutan at the end of Feb/start of March this year with Langur-Eco Travels (also known as Bhutan Birding Tours – don’t be put off by the two names they are one and the same).
We organised by email directly with Chubzang Tangbi. He was very accommodating in altering one of his “suggested” schedules so that we could incorporate cultural sights and events as well as the birding and animal watching. The only struggle we had before getting there was getting the British banks to enable you to pay Bhutan directly! But Chubzang came up with a solution which worked.
Getting there was smooth – we even saw sunrise over Everest! but as the flights into Paro are dependent on visibility I would advise that you spend a night in Delhi prior to your Paro Flight (and on the way back spend a night Delhi before moving on).
Once in Bhutan it was magical, the Bhutanese are lovely the pace of life is slow and this makes for a gentle and wonderful holiday. Having said that we walked about 7 miles a day and saw over 300 bird species and 17 different kinds of animals, including the Red Panda!
We went just the two of us and had Sonam (guide) and Tobgay (driver). They were the dream team. Sonam was brilliant at recognising bird song, enabling us to stop and get out the car to listen and look for the birds. Typically, we then continued on foot for a while before getting back in the car. Tobgay was an excellent driver and his sharp eyes enabled us to see many birds and animals. It was great to see and watch the birds and animals in their natural habitat. We saw much more than we had expected given the high level of forestation – indeed the trees themselves are magnificent.
Throughout we never felt rushed and felt we could watch the birds and animals for as long as we wished. Indeed, when we saw the first Red Panda we must have watched him for at least an hour – it was magical.
We enjoyed the cultural visits to the Dzongs and monasteries. They helped in our understanding of the culture and Buddhism. Sonam was great at helping us understand the many images of the temples and about Buddhism. These helped our understanding for when we climbed to the Tigers Nest – something not to be missed. We were treated in one of the temples to Buddhist monks chanting and playing on their instruments, sitting and listening to this was a very fitting end to the holiday.
Despite comments that we had seen on the internet, the food throughout Bhutan was tasty and not too hot. We always ended up with about 6 dishes, even for breakfast on the top of a hill by the Monastery overlooking the Himalayas. A culinary experience that I was not expecting. Throughout the holiday the accommodation was clean and comfortable.
As you might imagine by the end of the holiday the whole culture had seeped into our bones and we felt incredibly calm and chilled.
We would highly recommend a holiday in Bhutan and we would definitely use Langur-Eco Travel for our next trip.

We had a great time in birding in Bhutan with Langur Eco Travels. All the arrangements were very well sorted out and we were able to change them if we wanted to stay longer in one area. Sonam was a very good guide, with an excellent knowledge of the birds and their calls. we would happily travel with them again
