Having trekked in Bhutan and taken a short tour of the NW of the country some years ago, I had always intended to go back to have an in depth look at the rest of the country…
Motorcycling seemed to be the ideal way to go. You can cover more ground than you can trekking while still immersing yourself in the countryside, while getting close to the people of this amazing land. We had high hopes for this trip, and Khandu and the crew from TUSK made sure it exceeded our expectations in every way.
Absolutely stunning scenery around every corner and over every pass. Distinctive architecture, fascinating culture and friendly people. Some long challenging days on the bikes to cover the ground and get to see what we wanted to see. But all the more rewarding for that effort.
The bikes – the aptly named Royal Enfield Himalayans – rugged and reliable if a little agricultural, were perfect for this sort of travel, for the road conditions and the terrain.
As a local with years of experience motorcycling in Bhutan and neighbouring countries, Khandu seems to know every road and back track and can tailor a trip to the group’s interests and ability.
In two weeks, we saw much of the country from the mountains and high passes to the foothills and plains on the border with India, from the more closely settled regions to out of the way places in the less traveled areas that see few foreign travelers.
While we usually prefer to travel independently this is not possible Bhutan… but, with nearly everything paid for in advance, with an itinerary and great accommodation organised by a knowing local, and with a helpful and experienced support crew handling the logistics, all we had to do was ride the bikes and enjoy the journey…
A fantastic country, with a unique culture and a great way to see it – thanks to Khandu, Norbu and Mr Chen…

If you are thinking of motorcycling anywhere in the world, look no further than Khandu for an experienced and passionate motorcyclist and cultural guide, who is also a wonderful communicator and very thoughtful in considering your needs.
I have recently returned home from my solo trip to Bhutan and spent 2 weeks with him and his team and we quickly became a tight knit group.
Before I even hit the ground I felt confident that I would be comfortable and cared for. Every day was just that and much more. Adventurous, challenging, enlightening, and with backdrops of the most intoxicating landscapes. I can concur with all that is said in the previous reviews, sharing and feeling the same experiences.
If you feel it's a bit expensive, all I can say is that it was all worth every single cent.

We had such an amazing adventure with Bhutan TUSK Motorcycle Tours. Thirteen days of riding motorcycles all over Bhutan in all types of terrain and roadway conditions. Khandu was an amazing guide and road captain. The riding was challenging but Khandu made sure that we felt comfortable and never rushed. Every single aspect of the trip was planned to perfection, and even our last-minute changes to the itinerary were flawless. Consistently spectacular destinations (and routes), good food and lodging. Chenco drove the support truck and was always proactive in making sure we had everything we needed. Dorji shared her extensive knowledge and unique perspectives while touring all the historic and culturally significant locations.

We recently went on a motorcycle tour of Bhutan with TUSK and it was an incredible experience. The scenery was breathtaking and we had the opportunity to see many of Bhutan’s most stunning and iconic locations. The tour was well-organized and the owner/operator Khandu, his right-hand man Karma and their entire team were friendly, helpful and fun. They provided us with all of the necessary information and made sure that we felt safe and comfortable at all times. The bikes, Royal Enfield Himalayan, were well maintained and easy to operate.
I would strongly recommend this tour to any rider looking for a unique and memorable experience. Note to women riders: Do not feel intimidated, this team is awesome and will take excellent care of you.

My wife and I just finished a 10 day motorcycle tour with TUSK Motorcycle Tours, in summary, it was fantastic. Khandu our road captain, as well as owner and founder of TUSK and his crew are all fantastic human beings, very professional, enthusiastic motorcyclists, great guides and fun to spend time with throughout the whole trip. The trip was a great combination of riding through incredible landscapes and learning about the unique Bhutanese culture. We can highly recommend TUSK Motorcycle Tours. If you are looking for a motorcycle experience in Bhutan, let your search end here. Khandu, Dorji, and Sencho provided an experience well beyond what I could have imagined. This team delivered the tour with professionalism, humor, and deep knowledge of Bhutan's roads, culture, tradition, and history that their collective effort could only receive. Their love for their country glows in them and catalyzes the fire and enthusiasm they have for ensuring their guests have the experience of a lifetime. Khandu is a true ambassador to all who love to see the world on two wheels and live the motorcycle culture. Thank you all for for a top life experience!

Summary:
Professionalism of staff: 100%
Standard of equipment/motorcycle: 100%
Personal care and attention: 100%
Value for money: 100%
I cannot praise Khandu and his team enough. The tour organised by them was the experience of a lifetime.
Khandu could only be described as a professional rider. He lives and breathes it. I am not. But he rode to my pace, disappearing out front enough that I felt I was on my own rather than following someone, then was magically there indicating with his speed and riding style when care was needed. Quite a skill.
Chencho the backup driver and all round good guy was a godsend. I came off once on some ice (low speed, no damage). Instantly he was there to make sure I was ok and help get the bike up and running. He was always about, ready to help.
Dorji my guide had a tough job. In amongst the riding we visited some beautiful Buddhist sites. She managed in minutes to immerse me Bhutanese and Bhuddist culture, teaching me more than I've learnt in many other trips in other countries.
It was the middle of winter. Very cold and some snow and ice. I was the only person on the ride. I had Khandu as road captain, Dorji as guide and Chencho driving the backup truck. With the motorcycle (a 411cc Himalayan - beautiful) and everything included I started to wonder how they were making a profit.
So I asked that question. Khandu replied "Well, we aren't making a profit". So I asked why they ran the trip for me. Khandu's reply: "Well, you wanted to come and ride". I'm still speechless at that.
Can't thank Tusk Motorcycle Tours Bhutan enough. Going back next year to see more of Bhutan with them. Can't wait.

December being the off-season time, we decided to explore Bhutan when there are fewer tourists. To make it more interesting, we decided to have a bike trip. We enquired a few places and finally came across Mr.Khandu. We found him extremely professional. But what struck us is his friendly nature. He helped us from the very beginning until the last day of our trip. We were provided well serviced Enfield Thunderbird which made our trip very smooth. The last day when we had to hand over the bike, we met Mr.Khandu himself. He has a lot of knowledge to offer about Bhutan and the neighboring countries that he has visited on his bike trips. If we plan to visit Bhutan again, we would definitely take Mr.Khandu along. I'm sure he being along, the trip would be much more interesting and fun.

How much is the tour cost and duration
Written June 7, 2019
Ours was 10days at almost USD250 per day which covers everything: motorbike, hotel and food and coffee/tea/water at meals.
Best to get a quotation from Tusk.
The spend per day is rather regulated. Not sure if there is a spend amount difference with India nationals.
Hope this helps.
