We rented a car with Active African Vacations and we’re really happy that we did. Billy and his team provided us with a toyota Rav4 that was very well maintained and reliable on all type of roads. They kindly dropped the car at our hotel and came to pick it from our hotel too Very good price also. Billy and the others, we couldn’t thank you enough for the magical trip we had in your beautiful country with your car! Thank you so much!

We booked a gorilla and golden monkey trekking tour for 4 days in Rwanda.
1) the booking process was easy and team was very responsive and quick
2) our guide Billy was wonderful, very knowledgeable and organized.
3) the hotel (one and only gorillas nest) was absolutely incredible, would highly recommend.
4) the trekking was very organized. Guides were very knowledgeable and the experience was incredible.
5) the Rwandan people were kind and helpful throughout. We always felt safe and looked after
Overall an incredible experience that we would highly recommend.

We had two weeks of great and unforgettable experiences in Uganda.
Starting with Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi NP, followed by hiking/ climbing tour in Ruwenzori NP incl. the successful climbing of Margherita Peak and finally two days of game drive in Queen Elizabeth NP.
All of this would have not been possible without Active African Vacations. Precious and Sam (our guide) did a great job and made the impossible possible.
The tour was well organized, also short-term changes in planning (one day less in the mountains, two instead of one days of game drive,...) were no problem. Both of them made anything possible.
We would ever hire this agency again and I am quite sure that we are going to return to Uganda to enjoy the great landscape and hospitality there. Of course, our next tour in this area will be booked at Active African Vacations.
@Precious & Sam: many thanks again for everything.

We did a self drive with the Toyota hiace minivan. Had no issues with the vehicle during ten days. Whilst some minor things didn't work perfectly (dusty airco at the start), the important things worked excellently. I was seriously impressed by the cars ability to tackle the Ugandan roads. Slaloming around potholes, braking last second because of speed bump I saw too late, driving steep uphill nothwistanding the weight we loaded. Also the flexibility in pick-up and drop-off locations of the vehicle was appreciated

We have booked a 2-week trip with Active African Vacations, starting with a 1 day Gorilla trekking, Margaritha Peak and Safari in Queen Elizabeth NP with unforgettable experiences. Initially, I contacted Active African Vacations by email and we have planned the whole trip in detail. From the first contact and during the whole planning phase Precious was very helpful and knowledgeable and gave me a very trustful and reliable impression. The whole trip was excellent organized with very nice lodges in the national parks. We had big fun with Sam, our driver and guide who was very kind flexible to adopt our individual plans. We shortened the Rwenzori trekking for one night in the mountains and therefore spend another day for Safari. Precious and Sam were great to change our plans in short term.
A big thanks to Precious and Sam who made an incredible job. We had no complaints at all, all was perfectly organized. We can definitely recommend this agency and I am sure we will come back.

I planned a 10-day solo tour with Active African Vacations, and it was an absolute blast! The experience was fantastic from beginning to end, and I would recommend them to anyone.
I coordinated the tour with Precious, who was incredibly helpful and responsive to all my requests, making the organization of the trip very smooth.
My guide and driver, Sam, became a good friend during the journey. He's extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and just an all-around great person.
Additionally, the lodges they booked for me were stunning. They have excellent local contacts, and I'm sure they always managed to get me a good price.
All in all, if I ever go back to East Africa, I'd definitely book with Active African Vacations again.

We just returned from a trip that took us to Northern Uganda, Eastern, and then Central, spending three days driving across the country. We have had the experience of a lifetime. The communication before arriving in the country was smooth. The prize was pretty fair for the car we received, a SUV Toyota Landcruiser....the car was clean, the vehicle well maintained, and everything was in top condition. But nothing beat the excellent service provided to us by driver Ben- he was patient, professional, punctual, supportive and just good company for chatting. We had tons of luggage, plenty of stops, meetings, and unpredictable schedules....but Ben was easy, and flexible...I would definitely call Billy and Ben again when I return to Uganda....keep up the good work...

Our guide, Ronald, was fantastic. He took care of everything and explained all of the wildlife, history and cultural elements for the areas we went to. It would’ve been cheaper for us to book the Rwenzori trek directly ourselves but the trip was great overall.

I wanted to extend my stay in Uganda to do gorilla trekking in Bwindi National Park.
Billy and Leticia from Active African Vacations were very flexible, and they accommodated my request and made my trip very comfortable from a pick up from my hotel in Kampala, Gorilla trekking in the park, and driving back to Entebbe Airport. I highly recommend Active African Vacations!

Thank you for all of your helpful information, we have just booked with them but to verify that they purchased the gorilla permits, all they sent us is a photograph of the green plastic card with a number on it -- shouldn't there be something with a date/time/place? Any kind of written receipt? How could we verify? Thanks.

Once confirmed, they are there to meet you at the airport and the rest is smooth as, very reliable. BTW, wear trousers not shorts as the bushes can be very prickly. Also there will be 2-3 muddy creeks and as it is not worth trying to balance on slippery rocks crossing over, wear ankle gumboots. Bring also dust masks as the beaten tracks roads in Africa can be very dusty.

Just wondering what the daily cost for self-drive car hire was?
Written February 15, 2018
The daily rates differs from the type of vehicle one wishes to take, for example small suv Rav4 goes for $40-45 a day which landcruiser prado goes for $70-80 depending on number of days one wishes to use the car for , people going fore 10+++ are always given some discounts.please let me know if theres any additional information needed.

I just read your review and I am planning a trip in July 2018. I have been emailing Maggie. I am from Canada as well. Would it be possible for us to have a quick phone chat? I just want to ensure I am with a good company and ask if you drove from Uganda into Rwanda and how long the drive was and what was it like?
Thank you Marnie
