inaugurated in 1961 this Hindu remple is located in the center of Kampala. Different deities are revered here, but Sanatan Dharma is a more general term for those who believe in the eternal cycle of soul and rebirth. Virtues of devotees include honesty, refraining from injuring living beings, purity, goodwill, mercy and patience, to name just a few.
The architecture reflects the time spirit of the 1950s. The temple is colossal and less refined than for instance the newer Shree Kutch Satsang Swaminarayan temple in the northeast of the city.
Inside the temple there is a huge depiction of Ayodhya and Mr. Modi leaving no doubt where the sympathy of the devotees lies. The new Ayodhya temple is built on the site of Babri Masjid, a 16th century mosque demolished in 1992. Mr. Modi is India's PM.

Indian hindu temple in the Kampala city area. Temple was built by the Indian community in the 1950s.
It's a religious place. It is open everyday and prayer services take place in the morning and in the evening. Nice Indian temple design and architecture, with Hindu religious statutues.
On the same street, there is a Church, and a Mosque, and another Indian religious place.
Just amazing that people in Kampala from different religions could co-exist in peace.

We enjoyed a very informative and interesting walking tour of Kampala and during the 6 hours we spent time at this marvelous Hindu Temple. It’s not a place to spend a great deal of time, but well worth including. Its unique place in history as well as its unique place in a neighborhood surrounded by houses of worship from many different faiths make a compelling reason to visit and enjoy.
