About
Africa was gifted with so many attractions and one of its greatest gift is mountain gorillas, a primate species that shares over 98% of DNA with humans. These endangered primates reside in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo and can be visited for a fee. Africa is a very good destination for seeing mountain gorillas.

My daughter wanted to go on a trip to Africa to see Gorillas and other animals. I kept telling her that it is to expensive to travel there. Then I found tickets very inexpensive to Rwanda. Finding a tour company I thought would be hard. I did research for over a week checking government sights reviewing trip advisor and other reviews. I found magical gorilla adventures and I am so glad I did. Aina was very responsive by email and helped me adjust my itinerary to meet our desires. Not knowing exactly what to do, Aina made some suggestions as well. When we arrived we were meet by Eddie (fantastic guide) that took us to our hotel and dinner the first night in Rwanda. Eddie explained to us about Rwanda and about our trip and what to expect.

The next day we drove 5-6 hrs to the Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge (excellent lodge and our favorite one that we stayed at). We stopped for lunch at bird nest on lake bunyonyi with fantastic views (our second favorite place to stay). The food the whole trip was spectacular. The gorilla trek was a once in a lifetime experience but I would do it again in a heart beat. I felt safe the whole trip and at ease with Eddie. We had our own safari vehicle and did not have to worry about other people’s agendas. We could do or make the trip what we wanted.

Eddie helped us to see all the animals in the park when we went on Safari after gorilla trekking. We were sad to leave when the time was up and we had the best time. The drives between places did not seem long because we were viewing animals along the way. If I asked Eddie to help me find something or exchange money he was always willing to help and took us to where we could get the best exchange rates. The only thing I would change is I would have brought some $100 dollar bills and some smaller ones ($5 and $10). I brought all $20 and there were 2-3 times I could have used different denominations for tipping or purchasing souvenirs.

I so highly recommend Magical Gorilla Adventures and Aina to help set up your trip to Africa in this area. All accommodations were great and exceeded our expectations. All meals were great. We did pay for drinks during the meals but otherwise everything was all inclusive. The people were friendly and we saw so much.

Thank you Eddie for a great experience and explaining everything to us. And thank you Aina for providing the itinerary.

I had a wonderful experience with this company. Our guide, Eddie, was incredibly knowledgeable and he showed us and taught us about most of the cities and towns we were driving through. I completed the three days of Gorilla trekking with some friends and I would recommend to anyone that’s looking to complete this experience to go with this company because it was very modestly priced and we felt like we got our money's worth. The accommodations were wonderful and the food was really good and they generally made her experience really good because they really catered to our needs. They also took us to Lake Bunyoni after the Gorilla trekking and that experience was amazing. It was also great because the bus that they used was really comfortable for the group of us and we all had a lot of space to rest on the long drive.

I went to Bwindi with a group of friends, we are all summer students doing our placements in Uganda. We chose to do Magical Gorillas as it was cost effective and had great reviews, and we are all so glad that we did end up going with this organization! It was an amazing experience! Besides Bwindi itself being an incredible experience, the tour guides (the Magical Gorilla ones since Bwindi ones were provided by the park) were beyond accommodating and knew so much information about the area, having an answer for our seemingly endless stream of questions. We all showed interest in a cool zip line in the area and the guide immediately asked if we wanted to do it as he would rearrange the itinerary to fit it in. The accommodations were also perfect for us as they were slightly cheaper but still felt high end. They truly to accommodate to your needs and wants out of the trip, constantly making sure you are comfortable and happy, and are always very kind towards you.

I definitely recommend using this company to do Bwindi if you are looking to go! They were so good that we ended up using them again for another trip to Rwanda (I’ve written another review for this!).

Fortunately, we had a wonderful adventure in Uganda and Rwanda; unfortunately, it was in spite of our tour operator. I want to list my complaints about Magical Gorilla only because I don’t want others to fall in to the same trap we did:

• Our first concern happened pre-trip. The office was very communicative and accommodating until our full deposit was received. Once the money was “in hand”, getting them to respond to a question was like pulling teeth. Other than a packing list, there was no pre-trip information. We could have benefited from money exchange advise, etc.

• Once we met up with our guide in Uganda, it appeared that the itinerary provided to me during the planning stage, was not the same itinerary that our guide had. Much of the information was inaccurate in our version and many travel times between locations were almost double what was communicated to us. If we had known the accurate information, it would have affected some of the decisions we made pre-planning. There was no excuse to say a trip from point A to B was 5 hours when it was actually 8.

• Our vehicle for this rigorous trip throughout Uganda/Rwanda was not in very good condition. The air conditioner did not work and the entire electrical system seemed to be shot. The “refrigerated” water that was supposed to be kept cold for us in the van was lukewarm at best. Also, the charging outlets for our phones/cameras did not work. On a few occasions we needed help from the locals to start the vehicle.

• About halfway through our trip, we were contacted by the office at Magical Gorilla (Aina) asking us for more money since the price of gas had increased so much since the time we booked our tour a year prior. We all felt that asking for additional money while we were already in Africa was a very strange and unprofessional request.

In summary, our trip to Uganda and Rwanda was a bucket list adventure that we will never forget. We enjoyed the magnificence of both countries, but we feel there are better choices to pick for a tour company.

FYI: I would suggest travelers bring lots of cash for tipping and buying. Shillings (Uganda) and Francs (Rwanda) are sometimes the only acceptable payment. Credit cards are often not accepted and our US dollars are not appreciated in many locations.

In addition, when our complaints were received by this tour operator, I received a response that was more of a character assassination then a reflective analysis of my review/opinion. I guess if you can't take the truth, you resort to name calling. That speaks for itself!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Sondra, wrote a very bad review about the company some days back (WHICH SHE HAPPENED TO DELETE AFTER OUR RESPONSE), edit out a lot of her so called complaints from it and re-post an edited review. If you are really telling the truth (YOUR TRUTH OF COURSE) and have no intention of tarnishing an innocent company's name, why did you delete the initial review, make an edit and post this? So who is doing the character/company assassination here? You came to this platform with all your truth (which most of it was wrong; that's why you had to edit out the previous review) and you do not want us to say our side of the story. In her initial review, she talked about how the guide solely made her trip to Uganda and Rwanda awesome. Our response was how a guide can solely make a trip nice if it was poorly planned by the company. After informing her that the very guide attached to our company she was praising and willing to recommend on a personal basis (VERY UNPROFESSIONAL BY THE WAT) had some negative complaints about her, she edited out all the places with guide compliments in this new review. BELOW IS A COPIED EXCERPT FROM HER PREVIOUS REVIEW: In summary, our trip to Uganda and Rwanda was a bucket list adventure that we will never forget. We enjoyed the magnificence of both countries, but we feel there are better choices to pick for a tour company. However, I do feel that Ronnie King, our guide, is the best in the business. If you are interested in reaching out to him individually, I’m sure it can be arranged. Above was one of the paragraphs she edited out. Ronnie has been guiding for over 20 years and over 98% of the clients who have been with him loved his service. This is a fact we cannot deny and I fully agreed with you when you said he is the best in business. This is why I had to book him over a year in advance for your trip; because I cared for the fact that you should have a very good guide. Secondly, she complained about a change in two of her accommodation facilities (A Point she also edited out). BELOW WAS OUR RESPONSE TO THIS: Regarding the change in accommodation, I clearly mentioned to you that one of the lodges got burnt and had to go through renovation. During this time, we had to look for an alternative as we monitor the progress of the lodge; which got back into business about 2 months before your travel date and their prices had almost doubled. Several of our clients complained about the second accommodation we switched and we stopped using it. You should know that a lodge might be good one moment and the next moment the service is bad. As per our terms and conditions, we make necessary switches in case service goes down. If this is something you do not appreciate; then we clearly do not understand you. Thirdly, she complained about finding out on the last minute (initially days to her trip), that they had to do Covid tests before their Rwandan activities. OUR RESPONSE WAS BELOW: You claim you found out in the last minute that that you needed to do Covid tests before your Rwandan activities a few weeks to your trip. What you should know is Covid rules keep changing and we cannot provide you with advance information. We strictly provide information a few weeks to trips reflecting what is on ground so that you do not end up with outdated information. ACTUALLY TO UPDATE ON THIS: We also found out on the last minute that it was possible to use the same PCR results from Volcanoes National Park in Nyungwe Forest National Park. This was not there by the time the Sondra's were starting their trip. After our long response, she deleted the old review; edited out a lot of things and posted a much cleaner review. The old one was so aggressive and had a lot of incorrect information. WE STRONGLY CONDEMN SUCH CHILDISH AND PETTY ACTS FROM CLIENTS. THERE IS REALLY NO POINT IN EDITING OUT A REVIEW AND POSTING ANOTHER. WE DO NOT EXPECT YOU TO ENGAGE IN SUCH IMMATURE ACTS. THESE ARE COMPLAINTS YOU SHOULD HAVE RAISED TO THE COMPANY VIA EMAIL AND HEARD OUR OWN PART OF THE STORY BEFORE SHARING A NEGATIVE REVIEW ON TRIPADVISOR. YOUR FRIENDS HAD POSITIVE FEEDBACK. SADLY ENOUGH, YOU SEEM TO BE THE ONLY ONE COMPLAINING HERE. FROM WHAT WE KNOW, YOU COULDN'T WAIT FOR THE TRIP TO GET DONE AND WRITE A NEGATIVE REVIEW. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BELOW IS OUR PREVIOUS RESPONSE There is no way a guide can solely make your long awaited safari smooth and enjoyable if the package wasn't planned well. UPDATE; Regarding the communication from office, we accept on a few occasions we took long to response to some of the client's emails. This is because we needed updated and accurate information, and most of the times we had to email authorities and wait for their response; before we can revert to the client. Also, we had to scaled down from about 18 employees to 6 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Not so many companies made it out and we are glad that we are still in business. Aina, one of our founders had to take up a tour leader role on some trips and respond to the client at the same time; of which most of the time she was in places with very poor network. Also, on about 2 occasions; Sondra's emails landed in the spam folder of our accounts. We came to realize this after and explained to her. You can imagine at a time the company is just trying to get back on it's feet, the client finds it good enough to write a negative review with a lot of wrong facts to intentionally tarnish our company name. She goes ahead and deletes the review after our response, edits out the points she got wrong and posts another a couple of days after; without giving us a chance to communicate our facts to her via email. HOW HEARTLESS? REGARDING INFORMATION, you booked this trip 15 months before your actual travel date and a lot can change within the period of time. I do not see the reason why you say your itinerary was changed when all your activities remained the same. National parks information change and all we did was update this information to what currently reflects on ground. For instance, in July 2022 there were lots of new rules introduced at Murchison Falls National Park. Some of them include only doing a night game drive when sleeping in the park, paying when visiting the top of the falls, inability to hike from the bottom of the falls to the top because of the high rising water levels and a whole lot more. A lot other Ugandan national parks had changes too both in information, rules and pricing. None of the client's activities changed. They carried out all the activities we proposed in their right order. UPDATE: We actually came to realize through the guide that Sondra mentioned an activity (Visiting Mabamba Swamp) that wasn't in the itinerary. The final itinerary the client confirmed over a year ago never had such. She also mentioned tracking chimpanzees in Queen Elizabeth National Park; which we never proposed in her final activity. We worked on several variations of the itinerary until it came to a final one. And again, we confirm all her activities were intact. To add on this, a place can have hundreds of lions, monkeys, gorillas or any other animal; and after 15 months the number is much less. For instance a few months to your travel, over 10 lions were electrocuted by a fence in Queen Elizabeth National Park; which definitely reduced on the lion population in this park. You actually expect a company to use the same information given to you over 15 months before your travel and not update anything. So to you, changing national park information is actually changing the itinerary? WE ARE WILLING TO SHARE SCREENSHOTS OF HER EMAIL CONVERSATION WITH US CONFIRMING AN ITINERARY SHE BOOKED. Regarding the change in accommodation, I clearly mentioned to you that one of the lodges got burnt and had to go through renovation. Most of the time, we advise clients to contact us when necessary for the pre-trip information they need. Actually most of them search for the information they need online as it is publicly available. You claim you found out in the last minute that that you needed to do Covid tests before your Rwandan activities a few weeks to your trip. What you should know is Covid rules keep changing and we cannot provide you with advance information. We strictly provide information a few weeks to trips reflecting what is on ground so that you do not end up with outdated information. The driving times between locations was accurate. In between you could have had activities and lunch breaks. You want to count this part of your travel time? We have been in the industry for over 5 years now; how can we provide inaccurate travel time? UPDATE: Rwanda has installed speed cameras on most of their roads and changed their traffic rules. This is a very recent change; that may impact on your driving time. We informed the tour guide to inform the clients about this change; which he did. One of the clients on this group was actually understanding enough to notice this and acknowledge it. Regarding transportation, You should know is tour vehicles are always on the road and malfunctions do happen. We thoroughly inspect all vehicles before trips and I confirm your vehicle was okay. The air conditioning units, sockets and the freezer were working well. If by any chance they all malfunctioned during your trip (which does happen a lot to every other companies in the industry), you had to communicate to the office so that we send a replacement vehicle; which you did not actually do at any point but decided to bring it up here after your trip was done. UPDATE: It is very common for some units in a car to malfunction. Sometimes we drive through very rough roads to access national parks. Sondra never mentioned anything about this to the company; that would have sent a replacement vehicle right away at our own cost BUT chose to bring it up when the trip was done. THIS IS THE KIND OF CLIENT WE HAD TO DEAL WITH FOR 13 DAYS. We had had some situations in the past where we had to send rescue vehicles because client's were lenient enough to communicate to us in advance. We expect clients to communicate to us when anything goes wrong. Travel can never be perfect all the time; and that's a fact. It all comes down to how appreciative and understanding someone is; when some things do not go as expected. I had no idea that the locals had to help you at some point to jump-start the car. The guide never communicated to the office nor did you communicate; which he, as someone who has been guiding for over 20 years probably through was something minor. The same vehicle you claim wasn't in good condition did a trip a few days to yours and clients never complained. They actually wrote us a very good review. From the very first day you met the guide; your attitude was negative and you kept threatening to write a bad review on TripAdvisor; yet your other travel mates were okay. You claimed you never had enough leg room in the vehicle, yet your friends; who seemed to be much taller than you seemed to have enough and were comfortable. We only emailed you once regarding the high rise in fuel prices and not 1/4 of the times you were on trip. There is no point to tell lies here Sondra. The email sent was to confirm what the guide would suddenly explain to you. I personally told you it was a decision we had made as a company the same day the email was sent. As mentioned in the email, we tried to contain it for a long time but we were losing a very huge percentage of our markup and decided to communicate to all clients who booked trips longer than 7 days with us; of which most of them seem comfortable. I also clearly mentioned that it wasn't compulsory for you to make a compensation; but rather out of choice. We do not expect to run a trip and end up in loses; considering the fact that we are just recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, we expect clients to be understanding. UPDATE: The client did not actually make any compensation for the fuel money that was requested for. We have had great reviews through the years; it makes no point coming to such a platform to tarnish a company that was built through hard work and maintained a great level of service in the industry. The very tour guide you claim to recommend had some complaints about you. You should know that travel has changed a lot ever since Covid came into the picture. The mere fact that you weren't flexible enough to adjust to a few basic things speaks a lot about the kind of person you are. You are so far the most complicated client we have handled since our inception. Which is still fine, because people like you; who will find it hard to appreciate a service whatsoever do exist. THIS COMPANY IS WAY BIGGER THAN YOUR REVIEW. THE PAST REVIEWS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. Regards, Management

Together with 3 friends, we booked a 5 days tour of Uganda, with gorilla trekking at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
From the inquiry onward, Aina was very professional and keen to any queries and changes we may request.
Our tour guide Ronnie was excellent! He was timely, professional and fun and was able to sort any queries/change of program on the spot.
The whole trip was a Dream come True and I could not recommend Magical Gorilla more!!
Thank you so much, guys!!

We booked a 5 day trip to Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth National Park with Magical Gorilla Adventures and I am so glad that we chose this company. Everything ran smoothly from start to finish and we always felt completely safe, secure and well looked after. Our driver-guide, Juvenal, met us at Kigali Airport and led us on a 5 day adventure which took in gorilla trekking in Bwindi, Chimp Trekking in the Kyambura Gorge, a boat ride along the Kazinga Channel and game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Juvenal was amazing and went well out of his way to ensure that our experience was exceptional at every turn. He was a fountain of knowledge and a great ambassador for his country! We planned our itinerary with Aina (the company director) and she was a pleasure to deal with - always extremely efficient in responding to questions and full of useful advice (such as being able to get East Africa Tourist Visas on arrival at Kigali Airport)! She also arranged amazing accommodation for us (Elephant Hab was a particular highlight). It took a leap of faith to hit send on the wire transfer of the money in advance of our trip but I need not have worried. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone planning to visit this beautiful country. A big thank you to Juvenal and Aina!!

Magical Gorilla Adventures arranged a 15 day “Best of Uganda & Rwanda” tour for me and my husband. What an adventure it was! My main objective for picking these two countries was to see the mountain gorillas, but we saw and experienced so much more! Aina, the owner/director, was a pleasure to work with, answering my many questions and concerns, and tailoring the trip to our requests. We felt her price was reasonable, and we also liked working directly with a local Ugandan company. I can’t say enough great things about Ronnie, our driver/guide. A seasoned pro, we were under his watchful eye from the minute he met us at the Entebbe airport until he left us in Kigali. If you are worried about going to Africa, think again and book with a company that can arrange the trip of a lifetime. Thank you, Aina and Ronnie!

We recommend this agency (and coming to Uganda) to our friends, they have done a great job with our Safari!

Especially Ronnie, our driver and guide, made the trip special and successful. Ronnie is punctual and organized, constantly making sure the trip goes smoothly. He always thinks a few steps ahead, multiple times came to collect us at the closest point possible after hiking activities, brings drinking water and snacks, and makes sure all other guides and hotels are fully organized and ready for us when we arrive. He has a great depth of knowledge on wildlife and the country and will happily share. Thanks Ronnie for making it an unforgettable (and perfect) experience! I honestly think he is one of the top tour guides in the country.

Regarding the Safari and Agency: the agency was extremely helpful in arranging our itinerary, providing suggestions and booking everything. They answered emails very promptly and always with very helpful information. We booked mostly mid-range Lodges but swapped out one lodge for an upscale choice, which was no problem for them. We did multiple game drives and river cruises, a night safari, lion safari at queen elizabeth park, rhino and zebra walks, trekking activities for Chimpanzees and Gorillas. Our entire trip was successful and definitely our most memorable holiday so far. Highly recommended!

Our trip to Akagera park has been amazing. Being with a group of 17(!!), we have truly enjoyed every step of the journey. From the pickup at our hotel in Kigala, to the timely drop-off at the airport, all was well arranged.

The jeeps in which you are driven around by professional and experiences guides are spacious and comfortable. The "lifting roof" assures that everybody onboard has the ability to experience all of the beautiful wildlife in the park.

The hotel, Akagera Game Lodge, has exceeded our expectations. Waking up in the heart of the park, with the most amazing views, served by truly friendly personnel is something everyone should have the opportunity to experience.

Overall, we have enjoyed our stay and would advise anyone to travel with Magical Gorilla Adventures. Aina and her team will assure you will not regret this.

We were highly discouraged about trekking chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest National Park in Rwanda but this company assured us they would go an extra mile to offer us the best experience here. We trekked both chimpanzees, colobus monkeys and managed to hike through the canopy walk way too. IMO, the morning chimpanzee trekking experience is a much better experience. You can easily see chimps; especially in the Cyamudongo sector. Rwanda is a such a beautiful country and we already miss it.
