This was our 2nd time travelling with Shoebill Safaris. Richard didn't let us down, his knowledge of birds and wildlife and his passion for his country made sure we had a great trip. Richard and Allen organised events through our 3 weeks, village experiences (fascinating), waterfall hikes (get to Sippi Falls if you can) and Rhino tracking. We saw lots of wildlife and over 200 species of birds - not bad for amateurs. Richard was helpful and supportive throughout our trip, we would definitely recommend him and his business.

My wife and I have visited Africa for the past 26 years....This year we wanted to see a shoebill and to have a real look at Uganda. Google led us to Shoebill Safaris, and we wondered if such a small company could give us what we were seeking....We need not have worried! From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, two weeks later, Shoebill Safaris looked after us impeccably! Richard and Simon cared for us 24/7 and nothing was too much trouble for them. They made every journey so interesting with their deep knowledge of the country, its people and its customs. Richard spotted birds from half a mile away, and identified them immediately...we were amazed at his expertise. I prefer to read reviews which contain at least some criticism, but, in this case, I simply cannot fault the experience we enjoyed.
We found our shoebill, and will never forget the sight of this amazing prehistoric looking bird. If you are considering a visit to Uganda for the birds, the gorillas, or just to experience its wonderful National Parks, you could not do better than trust Shoebill Safaris to organise it for you.....We did, and are still congratulating ourselves for doing so!

Spent approximately 3 weeks travelling with Shoebill Safaris. They delivered all we asked for and more. Saw over 520 species of birds as well as mountain gorillas and chimps. Alfred is among the best bird guides we have ever hired.

Shoebill were amazing. We were taking 31 students (and 4 staff) from the UK to Uganda. After spending time in Kibale first, Shoebill took us on a 3 day trip to Queen Elizabeth National Park. An advance catering team had delicious food ready for us when we arrived at Mweya. Drivers were excellent, patient and had good wildlife spotting skills. Would definitely recommend!

We combined a Birding and Gorilla Trek adventure in Uganda with Shoebill Safaris for 12 days this past August and September. We saw fabulous birds, including the Shoebill Stork, and gorillas as well. Our guide, Richard, was amazing and very knowledgeable about his country and the wildlife. He ensured that we had many opportunities for birding and even brought along an expert in forest birding, Nicholas, for part of our tour.
We recommend Shoebill Safaris and the only change I would have made, if possible, would be to spend more time in Uganda.

We had a three day safari with Shoebill Safaris up to Murchison Falls and it was really excellent. It was very well managed at the time of booking with very helpful recommendations and quick responses. Our guide was Ben who was fantastic. He was very friendly, informative and attentive. He made sure we had every opportunity to see the animals we could and we saw leopard, lion, elephant etc. Really great trip. Thank you Shoebill.

I had a really good experience with Shoebill Safaris. The service was excellent and I had a very good trip with them. They tried to fulfill every extra wish from me beside the planed program like going out for dancing and the hiking tour in Ruwenzori which I enjoyed very much. We were very happy about our Guide Richard who is a good spotter for birds and all the other mammals so we were lucky to see the rare hyenas with a young one. Richard was also very patiened with us when we wanted to stay a bit longer at some special spots. Thanks for this wonderful trip 👍😀

We are a family of five, 3 kids aged between 10 and 15, and Shoebill Safaris organised a wonderful holiday for us based on our brief, budget and accommodation requests. Richard and Allen took care of everything, from meeting us at the airport to ensuring that the kids were not bored or overlooked. Birding is my husbands hobby and he was very satisfied with a tick-list numbering 400+ including the very special Shoebill, African Green Broadbill and most of the Albertine Rift endemics.
We also saw lots of big animals; lion, buffalo, leopard, elephant, gorilla, chimpanzee and lots of other primates. And we visited the glorious Mountains of the Moon - the Ruwenzori mountains and had a lovely day walk in the mountain forests.
Take a look at Shoebill Safaris fb page for more photos.
Uganda is off the main tourist trail and so you feel as though you are discovering something special - albeit with some beautiful lodges and welcoming people to look after you. The countryside is very varied and there is always something new to see such as a couple of men beating out metal tools over a fire at the side of the road. We holidayed at Easter which used to be in the wet season, but climate change seems to have affected the seasons and though it can rain at any time, it doesn't usually last long.
Enjoy Uganda before it becomes mainstream! Shoebill will do a magnificent job of looking after you :)

They were great and accommodated our tight schedule. They worked with us to make sure we had enough time to see what we wanted to see! We only had a couple hours between flights and they brought us to a shoebill in the swamp! We even saw it eat a fish!
