I paid a visit to this beach with friends and totally enjoyed myself. It has all the attractions of a beach including the electrifying atmosphere that makes one forget himself.

This is one of the greatest tourist sites in Freetown and I recommend it to every visitor to the City.

Definitely not a place for swimming, full of garbage and used syringes... but for a late afternoon jogging then a drink at Roy's, King David or Q'Bar it is fine and relaxing.

This is a nice respite to have at the edge of Freetown. Lovely to walk along, a bit too much development happening to threaten the natural environment. I miss the ice cream shops!

It's a long long sandy beach. Bars and restaurants on the beach.
But I wouldn't swim in it. The locals party and the trash r there and no one seems to clean it up. Such a Shame.

Lumley beach is convenient to many Freetown hotels, including the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko where I stayed. It makes a nice place for an afternoon stroll or evening walk to see sunset. In most places, a beach like this would be crowded, but in Freetown it was relatively empty while I was there. There was a lot of trash on the back portion of the beach along the road that could be cleaned to make it nicer. Along the beach are several places to stop for a snack or drink.

Spent an afternoon in a bar on the beach which was very pleasant. A 3km beach with beautiful views and not crowded.

This was my 3rd visit to Sierra Leone this year, the previous being in June.

Since my last visit here there are now beach clean up teams and the first Saturday of every month in Freetown is a clean up day. Where, for a short period of time, even the roads are closed. There are still bits of rubbish there but these are waiting to be collected by someone.

Weekends at Lumley are manic with thousands of people on the beach having a good time, either eating, drinking or playing football. .

Some of the neglected buildings are now in the throes of work starting again on them.
There are new places opening up, and much more building going on, mainly bars on the beach, many looking quite good. Nice Eats is a welcoming new ice cream parlour with a huge selection of ices, the staff are friendly as well.

Don't bother. Beach is littered with syringes, hypodermic needles, and other medical waste. Locals say the central Connaught Hospital, which backs up on the water in another part of the city, has been dumping waste into the water for years. Tides and currents then carry the waste all around the Peninsula, as far as River Number Two.

This beach stretches for some 1.5 miles and it is perfect for a walk. On weekends there are a lot of friendly people playing football and this is a good chance to socialize with the locals. There are also few nice bars and restaurants nearby if you wish to have a cold drink or so.
