Pros:our driver Ibrahim.Nice, funny, good driver. Cons:everything else. I DO NOT reccomend this tour company at all. I’ve travelled over 90 countries and had many tours: this was the worst organized so far First day: city tour. 85% of the time driving around dakar, 25 minutes walk, not a single highlight of the city except for the liberation monument. Goree island: nothing was planned. Nothing. We had to wait 2 hours to take the ferry jumping and squeezing through a ord of people. 750 euros for 3 days. No lunch included. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM

I had a great experience over 2 days with Andaando tours. It was very easy to request a tour using the form on their website. Ali responded by email very promptly indeed. All of the arrangements were simple to make and the prices were clearly quoted. I first thought the prices were a little expensive, but after further thought I believe the prices to be competitive. You need to remember that you are getting a personalised experience, not touring as part of a large group. Also, I would have English speaking guides, transport and a tour lasting for the best part of the day. I arranged to tour the Bandia Nature Reserve and Lac Rose. Ali informed me that I could do both on the same day. Exciting additional activities were offered - a boat ride on the lake and a ATV/quad ride on the sand dunes around Lac Rose. Ali arrived early at my hotel. It was clear that he arrives early. Dakar has quite a lot of traffic and they arrived early to ensure they met me at the arranged time. He, and Brian, the driver, were both very patient as I had left some items in my room and had to go back into the hotel to collect these. I was also late leaving my hotel due to slow service at the hotel on the second day. Their vehicle was clean and comfortable. I was made to feel very welcome. Ali and his driver, Ibrahim/Brian were friendly and made conversation with me. On the way to Bandia Nature Reserve Ali pointed out a number of landmarks and also the nature around us such as the baobab trees and cashew trees. I was told about the food items the fruits of these trees are used to prepare. I was informed about other produce exported from Senegal including mangoes and the local monkey bread juice. Being interested in languages and dialects, I was particularly interested to learn some of the local language, Wolof. Both Ali and Brian were very conversational and it was good to learn some key words. All of the Andaando staff that I met spoke excellent English. We stopped at a petrol station for a coffee, Ali bought coffee for me and this was a nice gesture. This was also an opportunity for me to buy some cashew confectionery after being told about the cashew trees. We arrived at Bandia Nature Reserve in good time. I did not have to wait for too long before being handed over to the Reserve’s own tour guide. I was informed that he would speak English and French to the other people with whom I shared the tour vehicle. I was invited to sit at the front and this was alongside the safari guide. He spoke good English and I learned a lot about the animals on the reserve. I saw Guinea Fowl, Antelope, Zebra, Giraffe, Rhinos, Antelopes, Warthogs, Crocodiles, Hyenas, Tortoise and some very colourful birds. I am probably missing some animals here. The nature reserve was an excellent experience and it was great to see so many animals enjoying a natural environment. Following the tour, I was met by Ali. I was given the option to have food at the reserve or to have it later at Lac Rose. I had plenty of time to enjoy a drink at the bar. We then journeyed to Lac Rose. On the way, more information about the area was given to me. Brian’s standard of driving was good. I was offered a tour of Goree Island and a City Tour the following day. It was good to be offered this excursion as it completed my Dakar visit very nicely. Lac Rose was beautiful. It was not very pink in colour, it was explained to me that the colour varies due to the season and wind conditions. I was introduced to Samba who would take me on the wooden boat. First, I had a nice meal in the restaurant at the edge of the lake. Samba met me again and I was taken to the boat. The boat had a Senegalese flag and was painted in the colours of the flag. The wooden boat was perfectly steady and navigated through the lake by Samba using a long stick. He was informative and told me that the lake has a greater salt content than the Dead Sea. The boat had ‘NO STRESS’ painted on the inside front and this was exactly how I felt. It was such a relaxing experience. I was encouraged to put my feet in the lake and this was revitalising for my feet. Following the tour, Samba invited me to visit his shop. I was then introduced to the owner and a range of wooden animals, bagged salt from the lake and a black liquid to care for my feet were introduced to me. Water was also poured over my feet to clean them of sand and paper towels were provided to dry them. I bought some items and Papi helped me to get a reasonable price. Now it was time for the ATV/quad ride. I was taken directly to the point of hire. All of the arrangements were taken care of for me. The quad ride over the sand dunes was exciting. There were plenty of flat surfaces and Papi took a video of me riding the quad. There were lots of photo opportunities. The beach was beautiful too and it was followed by an exciting, slightly downhill course with twists and bends. The quad ride did not seem to last for the hour I had organised, but I am not sure - time flies when you are having fun, right? The following day Papi met me in the lobby at my hotel. He arrived early, to avoid any problems with traffic. He was patient when I had some business to take care of at the hotel. We reached the port on time for the 12:30 ferry. He was a good driver and was also very helpful. All of my requests were agreed to, including taking me to the cash machine on the previous day. He had also bought me two delicious mangoes on returning to the hotel after day one. Papi made conversation with me and was helpful. He was in quite a rush to get off the boat after completing the journey, but this helped me to disembark quickly and get away from the crowds. We saw the door of no return at the maison d’ enclaves. I was told about the history of this departure point of slaves. The various buildings we passed were well explained, including schools and the first president’s school. I also had the opportunity to visit Church and say a prayer for a recently departed loved one - RIP Susan. We visited a restaurant. Papi paid for his own consumption. The restaurant was nice but a swarm of flies landed as soon as my fish dish was served! Papi arranged for some citronella candles and this calmed them down a lot. It was still quite an unpleasant environment to dine in. Papi explained that Goree island has a lot of flies. Perhaps the measures to deter the flies could have been arranged before my food arrived. The food was good, not included in the tour cost and at my own cost, of course. Papi was helpful when I wanted to go elsewhere to enjoy a drink overlooking the beach and ferry landing. Goree island was beautiful and nice to walk around. Papi helpfully informed me that the shops are overpriced there and deterred numerous approaches from shopkeepers. This was welcomed as I would be visiting the market as part of the city tour. Papi then took me on an interesting and informative city tour of Dakar. Various Government buildings and the Mayor’s Ville were pointed out to me. He made conversation and checked that I was okay at several points during the day. The market was a good shopping experience. We drove through the hustle and bustle and I could see lots of varied goods. He then parked with great skill in a very difficult area to park. I was taken inside a building and Papi located the exact types of items that I was looking for. He then helped me to negotiate a fair price, for me and the seller. The products were of good quality and made for nice gifts and souvenirs. Another highlight was seeing the Monument de Renaissance Afrique. A spectacular monument that was hard to miss. I was invited to climb the steps, 300 metres, but did not as it was hot and the view of the monument was great from the bottom. Papi also gave me the opportunity to visit the Mosque and the Church in the city. I declined this as I had already prayed and I was keen to return to the hotel in advance of my flight home. Andaando Tours is run by local people. The owner Ali and all of his staff that I spent time with were very friendly and welcoming. I had a great experience on both days. I would encourage visitors to choose this tour company. The tours made memories that I will hold for a lifetime.

I have never had a more personalized and welcoming tour guide like Mr. Ali. His company came highly recommended by another traveler who used Mr. Ali. Mr. Ali and his Driver, Abrahim, personally met me upon arrival at the airport and over the next 10 days, arranged for me to tour Goree Island, the City Markets, the African Renaissance Monument, Bandia Wildlife Reserve, Lac Rose (Pink Lake), ATV ride in theLompoul Desert, Fathala Wildlife Reserve to “walk with the Lion”, on of the national symbols of Senegal 🇸🇳, visit Juffureh Village, the original home of Kunta Kinteh in The Gambia 🇬🇲 to meet my maternal ancestral Mandinka local village people, as well as a visit to visit a local Fulani Village Chief and the Iman! Mr. Ali was always on time, and his exceptional bi-lingual skills were great as he spoke fluent English, French, and Wolof. One of the most important things was trying to understand the currency once I converted US dollar to local currency; Mr. Ali was always with me and ensured that no one tried to take advantage of me with not understanding fully the local currency; I respected the fact that he did that when he did not have to; he even provided me some on the spot “Wolof” class to know the greeting in the local language, which was extremely exciting; it was good because the locals seem even more excited when I would say “hello” or “thank you” in their native language! There are many tour companies in Dakar, Senegal; however, I can only speak of my experience with Mr. Ali’s company; and if you want a personalized tour with an awesome local tour guide and Driver, Mr. Ali is the one I would highly recommend!!! 💯👍🏾🇸🇳🇬🇲

Ali is very prompt but also patient. There were 6 of us on our excursions. We spent 3 days of of our 6 days with Ali. We went to the Renaissance Monument and various markets on our first day with Ali. The second day we went to Bandia Wildlife Preserve , Lion Tour, and then to Almadies Point to shop and eat. The 3rd excursion was to Goree Island. After Goree Island, Ali took us to buy fabric and get suits made at a tailor he knew. We liked Ali so much that we canceled our airport transportation and he arranged to get us pick up in a large air conditioned van. All of our excursions were in an air conditioned van. Ali is very knowledgeable and will answer any questions you could have. We all agreed that our money was well spent with Andaando Travel Tour of Senegal. I would definitely recommend that you ask for Ali.

Our tour guide Ali was very resourceful. I implore everyone to use his company. It’s a local business & he gives you a true cultural experience without denting your pockets. Plan everything you want to do before your trip & let him know. Make sure you visit Goree Island, Pink Lake, African Renaissance Monument, Ngor Island and Safari Park. Support local business by eating local food. Eat lots of fresh fish.
