I did the sunset kayaking trip on Lake Kivu with Kingfisher Journeys and HIGHLY recommend it! Firstly, the lake is so beautiful, especially at sunset. The company was very easy to book with and communicative. The guide, Willy, was fantastic and really took care of me. He explained everything we were seeing and taking photos. We even got to meet some of the guys on the fishing boats. The trip was a lot of fun and I would love to do it again. Would recommend to all my family and friends.

This was my second time going on a canoe trip along River Mkungwa. It was beautiful and serene - it felt like I was a part of the surrounding nature; gorgeous cranes, cattle egrets, weaverbirds, and even an otter!

The company staff are very professional and knowledgeable about the environment and are very kind. I had my lunch and juice in the canoe in the middle of the trip and it was such an amazing experience!!

I HIGHLY recommend canoeing on River Mkungwa and kayaking on Lake Kivu. I have done all these trips and I am looking forward to some more!

Great 4 day kayaking trip across lake Kivu! The guides were very knowledgeable about the area and willing to be flexible on the itinerary to meet the needs of our group. Our guides, Gracien and Yves, were very well trained in water safety and rescue procedures. Despite having a large group, they managed the trip very well and we felt very comfortable on the water knowing the training our guides had under their belts. Thanks to Kingfisher Journeys for the trip of a life time!!

Our family with kids ages 9, 11, 13 had the best weekend hosted by Kingfisher Journeys! We started out kayaking and stand up paddling on Lake Kivu which was such a special way to see Giseyni, the birdlife and the surrounding areas from the water,. The next day we took a boat on Lake Ruhondo to an island where we hiked along the water's edge and had a very intimate view of local community life as well as incredible and rare birds, and a sighting of a hawk who hunted a frog in front of us! We hiked to a boat which met us with canoes and we then canoed across the Twin Lakes with dramatic views of volcanoes and a picnic on top of a private island! Our last day in the area we enjoyed a village bike ride with Team Rwanda, another excellent way to see farmland, and village life all hosted by extremely patient and knowledgeable guides Eloi and Yves from Kingfisher Journey.. I highly recommend planning any of their ourdoor activities on your next visit to Rwanda!

Highly recommend Kingfisher. Our two guides (Gratien and Yves) were everything an ideal guide should be: capable, knowledgeable, responsive, flexible, communicative . . . . the list could go on. Best of all though they were warm and personable––I felt a genuine connection with them during our four days on Lake Kivu and I hope to stay in touch. They speak French and English both and definitely know how to tailor a trip to suit the customers' specific needs/desires (we were a large group and they managed fantastically). Blessings Kingfisher!

We booked a 4 days trip to Volcanoes National Park, Lake Kivu and Kigali with Kingfisher Journeys in November 2022 with a group of friends. From the beginning, the company (Ninah) has been very reactive and flexible, adapting the program and suggestions to our wishes and replying to any of our requests within few hours (if not minutes!). The whole trip was then exactly how we wanted it to be and we enjoyed every minute of it. We also spent wonderful time with our driver (Tito) and guide (Pax) who were very knowledgeable, communicative and friendly. We would definitely recommend Kingfisher Journeys to any person wishing to visit Rwanda.

Did the haf-day Lake Kivu kayak with a friend yesterday morning and really recommend it!
They were supposed to be closed that day but Steve and Willy accommodated for us anyway.
We got out on the Lake at 07.30am and Willy took us around the Lake. The weather was beautiful, the kayaks were in great condition, and Willy was a great guide. Really knowledgeable, friendly guy.

If you’re ever in Rubavu, do this.

I have to say, Kingfisher was wonderful - i booked them for my trip to Lake Kivu in Rwanda and our guide Pax was wonderful - he took us kayaking and night fishing, which I HIGHLY recommend doing. I wish I had used them for the entire trip (I had booked the gorillas with a different company, which was also great, but now I understand that Kingfisher can do it all). Pax is a rock-climber, so if you are adventurous and want to do some adventure travel, ask for him! He was patient and super helpful, gave us a tour of Kigali and took me shopping, and found all the best coffee spots. Would definitely work with the company again.

We did the Congo-Nile trail bike ride and also an kayak trip with Kingfisher. The views around Lake Kivu are breathtaking and the guides were punctual and friendly.

Congo Nile Trail: be warned this is an advanced mountain biking trail and not just "moderate" as is stated on the website. However it is fun to ride through the villages and across the mountains. Unfortunately I became ill and Kingfisher were a great support in arranging my transfer to the hotel when I couldn't continue.

Kayak trip: honestly this was overpriced. We paid 75usd per person which is very expensive for just 2 hours on the water. The equipment they use is good and again the guide was friendly.

We signed up for river trip about 15 hours before the scheduled departure. Unfortunately when we arrived we were told that the river was too low to run. While we understand that the water depends on the operators of the hydroelectric dam, and this is mentioned on the website, if this is an important factor for you be aware that you may be paddling on a lake instead. Other than this issue everything went smoothly and the we enjoyed the experience.
