Absolutely cool place, where you can drive around in your own car and watch animals in the wild. We didn't get to go all the way up north (too long a drive with a small child), where we probably would have seen more animals, but we still got to see Water Buffalo, Giraffe, Different kinds of monkeys, antilopes and birds.... Akagera is an awesome park. We hired a driver in Kigali and spent 2 days and 1 night in the park. We were there in the dry season so most of the big animals were on the north end of the park. Early morning is a must . We were the first out our second day ,so saw elephants, giraffs,... More

We went in the dry season and somehow hadn't read that the wildlife would be up north in the wetlands yet another 3 1/2 hours drive away on bumpy sandy tracks. We were hugely disappointed. We had driven so much we didn't have the energy to go the extra distance and had also booked and paid for our accommodation in... More

I just finished my second visit to Akagera and the while I loved it the first time, the improvements have been incredible! More animals everywhere, better facilities. Lions reintroduced in 2015 and rumors that Rhinos are coming soon. Recommend that you go with Eagle-ride.com. Jean Marie and Morgan will take great care of you.

Akagera Park is not crowded like in the parks in Kenya or Tanzania, it is different and much better to enjoy wild animals.

I've visited this park four times and each time is a little different. It's a VERY long ride through the park (6 hours) plus your travel back and forth to Kigali. Your best bet is to stay at Akagera Game Lodge or Rizizi Tented Lodge and leave early in the morning. The earlier the better because as soon as it... More

Visited on a tour with a group of friends. Whilst the roads are dusty and rustic and it takes a while to get around, it's worth it for its animals - large planes of zebra, Impala giraffe, elephant. Last year they introduced Lions which whilst are difficult to spot provide added interest

The trip took the entire day. I hired a guide based out of Kigali where I was staying and we drove up early to arrive at the park by 8am. There a safari guide from the park joined us in our vehicle. He was knowledgeable of the best places to look for large game. Though it was too hot to... More
