We recently returned from a 10 day trip in Rwanda and Uganda in October with Gorilla Trek Africa and everything was fantastic! Nelson worked with us to create the perfect trip to meet our needs and was incredibly patient and responsive to all of our questions and changes. While we were only in East Africa a relatively short time, the itinerary allowed us to experience the perfect mix of nature and culture, but never feel rushed.  We couldn’t have been luckier to be assigned Luchi as our driver and guide. He was incredible! He was very knowledgeable and informative, patient with our many questions, and a pleasure to spend time with.  If we expressed an interest in seeing something, he made it happen. He has an incredible network and was clearly highly respected everywhere we went.  He did everything he could to tailor the trip to what he learned we liked, including securing us more difficult treks to the gorillas! He also went out of his way to ensure that our 20th Wedding Anniversary was incredibly memorable including a surprise bottle of wine, special cake, song and celebration from Luchi and the Mihingo Lodge team. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our trip and came away with many unforgettable memories.

We highly recommend Gorilla Trek Africa to anyone wishing to travel in Rwanda and Uganda and for any gorilla trekking experience. We encountered several other travelers during our trip who were not getting near the experience we were (their guide was lost, or wasn’t able to identify key items; they were missing opportunities to see things; or they were actually being mislead).  Sometimes they knew it and sometimes they didn’t, and we always considered ourselves lucky to be with Luchi and Gorilla Trek Africa.

amazing, truly once in a lifetime experience. very professional and knowledgable tour guide and an incredible trek with the gorillas spending an hour with a family of them within feet of us. The park rangers were very professional, polite and helpful while ensuring the safety of the guests and Gorillas. We did the 2 days tour and went to see the Golden `monkeys in Rwanda on day 2, which was well worth it, hiking in the foothills of the volcanoes and getting within feet of the monkeys and visiting a local community. The tour company took care of all lodging and transfers and meals were included. Everything went very smoothly. The only thing I would suggest is that the tour operators are a bit more clear on the exact itinerary. We weren't aware that we would be going to a national park in Rwanda on day 2 and therefore needed to get covid tests done at our own expense. to be fair, the process of getting the test was very easy and the tour guide coordinated everything without issue, so it didn't cause any scheduling problems, only the unexpected cost of USD $50 each. Highly recommended tour group!

My family and I used Gorilla Trek Africa to book a 5 day trip to Rwanda. It was a customized trip for us with specific hotels and itineraries in Kigali, Akagera National Park, and Volcanoes National Park.
So many aspects of their operation were outstanding. Nelson was amazing as the person I had contact with to organize our trip; he was incredibly responsive, and I even joked at one point that he must sleep with his computer because he always responded to my emails quickly, even in the middle of the night. We postponed the trip twice because of Covid, and Nelson cordially changed our trip dates both times. We traded dozens of emails planning the trip that would best suit our interests. Ivan was our guide and driver. He was fabulous. He is very personable, funny and knowledgeable about animals, birds, Rwandan history and Rwandan culture. We spent days driving around the country with him, and he always had a smile on his face.
The one problem we encountered with the Company is that we were supposed to stay 2 nights at Ruzizi Tented Camp in Akagera National Park. We had Gorilla Trek Africa book this hotel 4 months in advance for us. It was not until we showed up there that the lodge said that Gorilla Trek Africa had never confirmed our reservation and that they could only accommodate us for one night. We were really annoyed. Gorilla Trek Africa booked us at the last second some place else for the second night.
I would definitely use Gorilla Trek Africa again to book a trip to Uganda or Rwanda, but unfortunately next time I will have to make sure all of my hotels, gorilla and golden monkey permits and other items are indeed booked.

Nelson and his staff at Gorilla Trek Africa were professional and delivered on all counts!
His choice of lodging was fabulous. A guest house in Entebbe on the shores of Lake Victoria gave me a chance to book a 1/2 day bike ride around a part of the Lake, great lodges in Bwindi NP & Volcanoes NP at reasonable prices with fabulous food (fresh fish caught the night before in local lakes).
My drivers and guides were gracious, professional, and spoke English. Very helpful when spending hours on the road together. They also stopped on the side of the road when I wanted to stop and take a photo.

Nelson also suggested ending in Lake Kivu. It wasn't on my original list but his recommendation was perfect. I did a 1/2 boat tour the day before boarding my return flight to US. On the boat I saw people in long boats taking produce to market from Congo to Uganda. That's the kind of insight and ideas I appreciate and want from my tour consultant as a traveler.

And the money shot! My goal was to see and photograph mountain back gorillas in Bwindi & Volcanoes NP. Nelson put my trip together. In Bwindi, I photographed a mountain gorilla mother, her content face enjoying the sunlight, while breast feeding her baby. I submitted the picture to Travel and Leisure. It was picked picture of the week in shown online!

Excellent 5 days in Uganda, both the Monkey and Gorilla Trekking was well organized and worth every minute
Nelson at Gorilla Trek was outstanding and designed the perfect adventure around our 5 day timeframe.
Accommodations were great, we started in Entebbe, the Two Friends Hotel was super, the staff so friendly and the Fish Dinner 2nd to none. The stay for two night's at the Turraco Tree Top was special, with a deck off the room that looks out to the jungle. Overall a trip not to be missed.

From the first contact Nelson who is based in Uganda provided helpful advice and clear information about costs as we put together a week of primate trekking in Rwanda. Our driver guide Godwin took great care of the family and managed to get us back onto schedule after we had cleared Covid requirements so we did not miss anything. Gorilla Trek Africa proved to be a reliable choice at a difficult time. Rwanda is not the cheap option but it is a safe country taking sensible Covid precautions and the National Parks are running very professionally guarding the health of the apes.

We used Gorilla Trek twice for our gorillas and Golden monkeys trekking in Rwanda, once was in July 2021 and the latest one was in June 2022. Both times we booked through Nelson who was extremely responsive and always ready to answer any questions, in short we had amazing time and great experience. Our guide both times was Sam Elliott who was very experienced, always helpful and very accommodating. We will not hesitate to recommend Gorilla Trek to anyone who is interested in visiting gorillas. We also used Gorilla Trek to book our safari to Magashi camp in Akagera National Park.

Gorilla trekking had been a dream prior to COVID. We finally made the trip happen in 2022 and so grateful we chose Gorilla Trek Africa.

First off, Nelson was very responsive and easy to communicate with when looking for different options for experience. He made it very easy to understand and before le we knew it, we made our deposit!

Once we arrived in Kigali, our tour guide NORMAN came to say hi the day before our tour actually started. Since this was my first time in Africa, meeting him the night before made me feel so much more comfortable about what to expect. We asked him tons of questions and he graciously answered all of them. Norman has a kind heart, he is enthusiastic and he is what made our tour memorable!! He is fun, knowledgeable, and professional. If you choose Gorilla Trek Africa (which you should), you should definitely request to have Norman as your guide. You won’t regret it :)

We originally booked for 2020 but with COVID had to postpone. Dealing with Nelson was fantasist, he was extremely patient and accommodating and quick to respond to my many emails and questions.

We did a tour to Uganda from Rwanda for the gorilla trek which was amazing! We took around 2.5 hours to hike to the gorillas which wasn’t too challenging.

Along the way from rwanda we stopped for a night in Lake Bunyonyi which was a great addition to add on! The lake is beautiful and the hotel we stayed at was amazing over looking the lake and had a nice canoe ride the following morning.

Our guide Gavis was friendly and knowledgeable and the ride from Rwanda to uganda was good.

Would recommend gorilla trek!

Our Rwanda experience was made possible by Gorilla Trek Africa! Nelson, manager, was always so helpful and punctual about responding to our questions and requests. This is even while being 7 time zones away! We simply inquired about a trip, layed out what we would like to do, and Nelson took care of it from there(we did book flights separately)!
Once we arrived in Rwanda, we were meet at our hotel, Five to Five, by our guide, Elvis. He reviewed our trip with us and made some suggestions about local things to see in Kigali. The next day we toured the city with Elvis. He was a wealth of knowledge on all things Rwanda. We asked many questions, and Elvis had the answer to everything!
We then spent the night at DaVinci Lodge near Volcanoes National Park. The staff there were exceptional. They made us feel at home and welcomed from the moment we stepped out of the car. The next day, we took our trek with the gorillas. The experience can barely be put into words. The rangers, guide, and porters were all top notch (make sure to get a porter! $10 is money well spent and I can almost guarantee that you will feel like it was a bargain by the end!). Elvis then recommended a village walk where we were able to see the culture of the Rwandans' in the Northern part of the country.
The next few days were spent in Akagera National Park. We took a boat tour on Lake Ihema, to see birds, and also 3 game drives(two smaller- 3 hours, and one larger- 10 hours). All the experiences in Akagera were made even better by Elvis. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of wildlife. We saw over 60 animals and birds and he knew every single one and also had information about them that was up to date and relevant.
When we ended our trip, Elvis made sure that we got to the airport with plenty enough time to check in and be at our gate!

If you are looking to experience Africa, look no further than Gorilla Trek Africa. Their guides make all the difference (opposed to just drivers, which many other companies give you) ! We would not have had nearly the trip that we did if we did not have Elvis and everything that he brought to the table! Life-changning experience!
