The market is fantastic and full of everything everything from cloths to crafts to spices, African tea, Rwandan coffee and many gift options. But what made it remarkable was having a jacket tailor made by the talented, professional and friendly Eugene and Eric ( +250 781 816 665). They measured us, made the jackets in 2 hours and delivered beautiful, well made, unique jackets and shirts to the hotel that evening for only 25 USD! Amazing! I’m so pleased with my clothes.

Kigali City Market, also know as Nyarugenge Market after the area where it is located, is a modern, clean, multistory building with convenient basement parking in Kigali's busy shopping district. The floors can be accessed easily by stairs or elevator. A variety of local and global products and foodstuffs is available. I enjoyed the fact that one could buy a bundle of cloth on one level and walk to to a tailor shop on the next and get a shirt made. The upper floors offer a good view if the surrounding city and famous hills. A good way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

All stalls are very organised into various sections. The cleanliness is on point and a good to shop.

The city market is roughly three blocks down, west of City Hall. There is a huge market building with several stories. On the ground floor are grocery shops and one level lower fruit and vegetables, but also meat and fish. The whole place is rather dimly lit. Though sales people try to get your attention, they do not insist. Very few tourists, most visitors are local. In the area around the building there are additional shops and vendors selling stuff from the streets.

Compared to similar markets in Nairobi and Kampala this one is smaller, but much better organized and more hygienic. However, the variety of (imported) goods on affer is less.

Found it a bit too busy for my comfort otherwise quite a lot of products. A must to visit in Kigali. Rather chaotic but there is order in it. Prices are fair

The Kigali City Market is a great place to wonder through. Hey o some extent the upper levels are much like a mall with the ground floor having vendors of a various types including food and household items.

Traders are engaging and don’t overly hassle visitors, taking photos is easy and to here is a wide range to see. A few places to eat and drink too. This is not a tourist spot so no real curios and so on, but fruit, tea, coffee, honey and so on for sale if that’s what you’re looking for. Prices were very reasonable and not much room for negotiation but also less pressure to buy.

A great place to explore - no real need for a guide or a ‘local’ to accompany you as it’s safe, well light and has great security.
