I booked a trip in 2017 for 3 people with this company. About a week before the trip the park closed unfortunately so we were left without an itinerary or money to use on our trip. I emailed Barack asking for our money back and he said he was unable to do so because he would have to wait for a refund from the park (which is a lie - he spent our entire $6,000 USD, the park permits only were $1200 of that total). I spent two years cooresponding with Barack to get my refund, as he always promised he would send me the money and he swore (often using his religion to gain sympathy points) he would pay me back. He passed me to his brother Ken and between the two of them they just passed me back and forth and running in circles always promising me they were getting me money. I never got my money back. Just to reiterate, we did not receive ANY service. We never met them, never got picked up by them, obviously did none of the activities. Literally zero services were rendered and they took our money. Even worse they just kept lying saying they would refund us and to hold on. That lasted 2 years then I gave up. Shame on them both. DONT BOOK!

Ken Rwema stole our money; we paid him for gorilla permits but he did not buy them. We we arrived in Rwanda he told us we had to buy them directly from the park! Over $3K - gone! reading through past review we clearly are not the first. I don't believe any of these other reviews are even real...if he's stolen from so many how can all these others say 5 stars. Complete and total fraud! Do not book w/ him. Way to risky!

We lost $7896 with Congo Discovery Safaris. We paid in full last July for a 14 day tour. I worked with Ken, Barack, the owner's brother and he was a no show. It was an extremely stressful situation . I had been in contact during all the preparation of the tour. Evidently he was let go from the company and when I interacted with the company that we were still coming because we had our tickets, after having changed arrangements twice, per Ken, the last words from Congo Discovery Safaris was "finger crossed". We survived , no thanks to the company, but great thanks to Michael, a driver that saved us. We actually crossed back into Rwanda to go to the border at Gisenyi to file a police report. We were the 6th people to do so. It is a very long story, we were supposed to have everything paid for, and nothing was paid for. The reason Ken had us delay or trip 2 weeks was supposedly that he couldn't get our gorilla permits ( mind you we had been planning this since last July.) Michael, our driver, got our permits the day before. Too much to tell, so much stress about having enough cash to pay, if we couldn't find places that took credit cards. Aside from Ken, who we never saw, being held behind locked gates at a lodge and acute stress, we had an amazing adventure and met lovely people who understood our situation. Evidently, Ken is a bit notorious in Kisoro. Still thought that Congo Discovery Safari might care enough to reach out.

Had an amazing time in the DRC. The vulcanoe hike was just amazing. The best experience I’ve ever had. The gorilla Trecking in Kahuzi Biega was also beautiful. You have a lot of time to really enjoy the tours. In between that everything worked very smooth and perfectly organized (transports, sleeping). Barrack is a super nice and funny guy and can tell you a lot about DRC. We spent some time together after the vulcanoehike eating local food, after that we went for a walk to lake Kivu. Beside that I always felt safe. Highly recommend!
