While visiting Kigali, we were informed about multiple creative artisan coops that exist around the city, and it turned out to be a fun and creative way to see all parts of Kigali. One of our favorite stops was visiting Grace at Komera. Her fabrics and unique items were perfect for gifts for everyone back home. Grace is so welcoming and helpful; it was a definite highlight of our shopping day. We felt so good knowing that the gifts we share back home are going directly to helping women rebuild their families’ lives.

Grace is passionate about teaching her employees sewing skills AND in helping them to heal their wounded hearts through this cooperative sewing shop. She's a soft spoken woman who has her own story of heart break and pain as a result of the genocide. The women are learning a skill, earning an income, and supporting one another. The products are unique and well made. I see Grace at her shop every time I visit Rwanda. I've had skirts made after I picked out the material and was measured. They have a variety of choice souvenirs such as baby gifts, purses, children's backpacks, laptop and iPad covers....and a cloth book with animals sewn on each page to name a few. It's a must to go there when you're in Kigali. Shari

While in Kigali, I visited Komera and was beyond pleased to find very well priced items that were great for both souvenirs and gifts for people back
home. There are so many beautifully crafted sewn items in a huge variety of beautiful colors! Duffel bags, scarves, dresses, make up bags, wallets, backpacks, napkins, table cloths, laptop cases, pencil bags, and shirts are just some of the beautiful items to choose from! The shop is also an amazing ministry which provides jobs for Rwandan women, so by making purchases from the large variety of options you are truly helping and giving back to the community. I would 10/10 recommend making a stop at Komera to fulfill souvenir and gift desires!

On our last trip to Kigali we met the women at Komera Creative and had many gifts custom made for friends in California. A baby quilt, custom kitenge shirts, make up bags, , a great yoga bag, etc. Please go visit Grace and the wonderful women--their items are just beautiful and the kitenge fabric is just so engaging. Their shop is filled with gorgeous Rwandan gifts for sale.
