We just returned from gorilla trekking in Rwanda and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our driver/guide Moses enhanced the experience. My cousin was experiencing short dizzy spells and felt she would not be able to go on the trek. Moses insisted she not miss the experience of a lifetime. He talked to the trekking guides to ensure someone would always be physically supporting her along the way. Also, that our trek in would not be one of the long ones. Good news, she was able to see the gorillas! Throughout the 3 days we spent with Moses, we found him to be a very special and kind man. He is very proud of his country and we understand why. We loved our brief time in Rwanda and highly recommend Primate Safaris and Moses.

I travelled to Rwanda to help my daughter get settled at her new teaching job in Musanze. Primate Safaris (and especially Moses) took great care of us.

The Meet and Greet at the airport saved us so much time going through customs. We then met Moses who drove us to our hotel in Kigali for the night.

The next day Moses provided a city tour, visit to the genocide museum (a must-see), and lunch before heading to Musanze.

Moses took care of us daily for 6 days… Dian Fossey hike, Gorilla trek, and golden monkey tour. He encouraged me to hire a porter for the Dian Fossey hike and I was so glad I listened to his advice. I’m not sure if I could have completed the hike without Augustin.

I highly recommend Primate Safaris and asking for Moses.

Fabulous trek to see the mountain gorillas. The trek was not quite what I expected, as we actually hiked most of it through a potato plantation and I'd say only about 1/4 of the hike was in the forest/jungle. It was still at altitude, so you'll want to hydrate. We hired porters to carry a stretcher in case my husband who has asthma/copd needed it. He didn't use it, but I ended up using it a bit on our second day of hiking due to dehydration. It's worth it to hire the extra porters and stretcher if you are prone to altitude sickness. It's also great to have a porter for your camera bag, as it gives the locals work. Definitely let them know the level of help you need, as my first porter kind of disappeared on me. On the second day, I asked my driver to choose my porter and he explained in Kinyarwanda that I was a grandmother and would need assistance through the mud and rocks. Huge improvement! I have to say our drivers Moses and Hussein were stellar. When we first arrived in Kigali we realized we needed extra cash for tips as 2 guides are assigned rather than 1 if you hire a stretcher for the trek, even if it is not used. (This is because if you get sick and need to descend, the other guide stays with the group) Finding a local bank in Kigali to use our debit card was a problem, but our first driver Moses helped us, even talking to initial bank that debited our card but didn't spit out any money. Hussein was our driver for the remaining 4 days and was an excellent tour guide as well as a phenomenal driver, which you totally need as the driving is a tad tricky, especially in the city of Kigali and along the mountain roads. I also felt like the suggested tipping overall was quite low, so it's a great idea to bring extra US cash, and know that the locals get better exchange rates with larger bills, so if you are tipping $20 for a porter, give them a single 20 rather than ones or fives.

We went with Primate Safaris from Kigali, where we were met by our fabulous, friendly and informative guide, Alex Kagaba, who took us for breakfast, a tour of Kigali and a visit to the moving Genocide Museum. He then drove us north to Kinigi through the cleanest country you will ever see. I did not see a SINGLE piece of litter! We stayed at the comfortable Gorilla Mountain Lodge and next day had an amazing adventure. After an energetic 2.5 hour hike up to nearly 9,000 feet we spent an hour with the Sabyinyo family - with the 400lb patriarch silverback brushing nonchalantly past me. FANTASTIC!! And then a good hike down - excellent pack of trackers & guide. Next day a return to Kigali for a visit to their parliament building - with preserved bullet and rocket scars, and a different angle on the genocide. What a lovely country and such an impressive response to their dark and recent history. There are many countries that could benefit from emulating Rwanda!

On our recent trip to Rwanda we were looked after by Primate Safaris. A tremendous experience.
Were we greeted by Phylis and our driver and guide , Mussa at our hotel. Phylis carefully explained our itinerary and the sights and activities we had planned .
For the next three days we were looked after by Mussa - a friendly , professional and knowledgeable guide . He was punctual, drove us long distances (sometimes on challenging roads) and we always felt comfortable and safe . Mussa’s four wheel drive was immaculate and the supplied bottle water was appreciated .
Mussa was able to ensure that our 2 tracking experiences (the Gorillas and Golden Monkeys in the Volcanoes National Park) were first class - truly ‘life highlights’. Thank you Mussa. You were fantastic.

It was a very well organised trip to
Nyungwe forest. Billy was a great driver and guide, and everything
went smoothly. We were lucky to get very close to both chimps and
colobus monkeys. The contacts with the office and the preparations for the trip were quick and smooth. We will get back to Primate Safaris when we plan new trips to Rwanda or Uganda.

I booked my tour with Africa Adventure Company who use Primate Safaris. My guide and driver Etienne was great. He was very knowledgeable and a good conversationalist. Primate Safaris arranged the pick-up from the airport and all the transportation around Rwanda including the Gorilla treks. The Gorilla trekking was the highlight of my trip and unforgettable.

So much easier booking with a Travel Agent in Kigali. Primate Safaris were recommended to me by the Gorilla Trust Charity in the UK personally by the Chairman.
Saved a huge amount on 'load on' from other Agents elsewhere !
Efficient and precise. Great Service. Definitely recommend them. JOY is wonderful and very efficient ! Be precise in what you want. Do some research on internet. Then Joy will find you best rates.
