Cool One-day Akagera National Park Game Drive with Daily Departures

Leave Kigali as early as 06h00 and drive for an estimated two 2.5 hours to reach Akagera National Park by 08h30-09h00. Spend the entire day through the park to depart to Kigali late afternoon or in the evening, by 18h00-19h00.

Akagera National Park has a diversity of wildlife including buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, zebras, impalas and many others. After a long time being extinct in Akagera National Park, the black rhinos and lions have recently been restocked. Their sighting is always not guaranteed due to their small number and the hiding character of the black rhino. Enjoy the game drive viewing the natural habitat of different animals, birds and enjoying the view of different lakes and landscape.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Distillery tour and tasting. Hussein was the perfect guide, who loves his job. Even though I was on my own, it was a fun and informative hour. The owners are passionate about their distilling, and I learnt a lot. At the end of the tour, Hussein checked that my taxi was there to return me to the hotel! Next time I am in Kigali I will make sure that I stay for dinner! Great venue up in the hills.

The tasting costs 25000 ruanda franc and is not worth the price. And we had a tour of 20 minutes and tasting consists of 5 small single shots! Never do the tasting! Cocktails are not worth it either... very disappointing all around.

Hi Sabhey, thanks for the review. Frankly, speaking, you and your group were in a rush and in order to accommodate your schedule, we gave you a shorten tour at a reduced cost. In terms of the tasting part of the tour, that's what tasting is, samples of each of our liquors. The cost of our tours overall is on par with distillery tours you can find all over the world. Just because we're in Rwanda doesn't mean we need to reduce our costs when we put a lot of time and effort in our distillery. Thanks again for your visit and we hope that on your future travels, you have an open and supportive mind, not one that compares us to your home country. We'd greatly be interested to hear more about why you didn't like our cocktails, feel free to email us at info@1000hills.com!

We stopped for late afternoon lunch and cocktail, very reasonable priced, but top quality with a view.

Thoroughly recommend a trip to see this distillery high up in the hills overlooking Kigali, it has a real chilled vibe to the place with fantastic cocktails and excellent food. I was met by Hussain, who was delightfully engaging, and shown to the bar. After a quick g&t, I was introduced to Andrew who was equally engaging and my tour began. Andrew took me through the history and reasoning behind the business including the highs and the lows of starting a truly unique craft distillery in Rwanda. Andrew clearly knows his stuff on all aspects of the industry both local and international, a credit to the business. Andrew then talked me through the tasting stage, explaining each spirit in detail, 6 shots in total so drink plenty of water!! Included in the tour was also a cocktail from their menu, which was excellent. I decided to stay to eat and soak up those views, it was taco Tues and on Andrew recommendation, I opted for the chicken tacos. These were well presented and tasted very good indeed along with the fresh side salad and french fries. I then spent time talking with Hussain and discovered he had lived in Germany, bringing what he’d learnt from European business to Rwanda. Hussain is passionate about life, business and people, a true asset to the distillery and Rwanda. Before leaving, Hussain kindly arranged a local taxi ( Rwanda version of Uber) and ensured I wasn’t overcharged - brilliant!! Andrew, Hussain, thank you for your time and energy and fab conversation, I wish you both the very best in your future ventures.

I visited here with my infant baby and my mom, our tour guide I wish I could recall his name, was Awwww, he was so nice and friendly answered all our questions, the macadamia made with sugar cane was my favorite, then the Singapore sling OMG, let's not even talk about the steak on a hot stone . I'm definatly visiting again the next time I'm here, this time I hope my husband come along . the only problem is they do not offer note pick up owing to the fact that the place is quite difficult to locate, but all in all I LOVED the experience

Hi julzberg, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your visit! Definitely bring your husband along next time too! We're happy to arrange a cab for you, just give us a few hours notice. Also there are now a few ride hailing apps (VW and Yego) which do regularly drop clients off here.
