The current eruption and a million visitors didn't destroy the awesome experience of visiting the Piton at sunset to see the area and then the eruption in the dark (with head torches). Due to the insane traffic we had to park 2km away and walk up to the view point and walk back in the dark with crazy wind/dust then... More

A spectacular environment and views like nothing I have ever seen. We were taken up there by our guide Alexis of Ayapana - he was amazing explaining about the plants and geological formations we saw. I strongly recommend his services. You need to have appropriate footwear as the trek to the top is challenging on jagged solid lava. Also remember... More

The trip to reach the volcano is something unique, from the warm weather of the beach until the cold of the to of the peak, you will drive through different landscapes, from lush vegetation to rock desert before reaching the volcano, it's really a must do while on the island. there's a path to reach "Pas de Bellecombe", remember to... We left our hotel at 05h30 for a 2 hour drive to the volcano. So we started the hike quite early before the cloud cover in the afternoon. Make sure to wear appropriate shoes for the hike of 12 km, as the rocks are quite sharp and uneven. Also make sure to take clothing for all weather situations (layers). We... More

I hiked up to the crater very early in the morning. I got to the summit and was by myself there, it was still too early for the other hikers I guess. I watched the sunrise, and had breakfast at the top (bread and cheese). Having breakfast up there by myself was, up to today, the best experience ever. I... More

As others have said, watch out for cloud cover. People really aren't joking when they say Reunion has numerous climates. You can go from hot sunshine to heavy rain with just a little elevation. The drive up the volcano is extremely fatiguing as the roads are very windy. If you have passengers, and they suffer from travel sickness, this will... More

We had this excursion on our itinerary from the beginning! What an experience. the drive all the way up to Pas de Bellecombe is just the beginning. From the lookout point at the car park you descend down into the plateau. From there it is a hike of roughly 2 and a half hours to get to the ridge of... More

Awesome! It is the highlight of the trip. A few hairpin bends to get there but nothing worse than you would have done already on this island! On the plateau the Tarmac ends and you are on dirt/stone tracks. It's full of big potholes but as long as you go slow (like there's any option!) your hire car will cope... More
