Despite having to drive up a very windy road, the view at the top was definitely worth it! Would recommend getting early to avoid cloud cover.

If you go to Mafate or another walk in the mountains ... just go to Maido to see your achievements from another point of vieuw. Fare out the best view on the mountains.

If there are clouds, I wouldn't go. If you've already driven up Piton de Fournaise, you'll be used to fatiguing, winding roads. Be aware that, for me at least, this drive was much worse. Budget in some fatigue from driving. At the top, there are toilets and a cafe.

Don't miss out going to the top of Le Maido. It's easy to find and plenty of parking at the top plus a very friendly chap running the cafe at the top. Lots of hairpin bends but nothing too scary on the way up. The views at the top behind the cafe are breathtaking. You can feel the up draft... More

It's a must! Should not be missed! It is the most beautiful and exciting view of the island! After these phrases for effect, if you visit Reunion, you have to go to Maido to look the Cirque de Mafat, but please arrive to Le Maidò in the early morning before the arrival of the clouds.

The Piton Maido gives a incomparable point of view over the valley but the road is long to get there and you need to be early, especially in hot season because after 10AM, it goes from sunny to cloudy in less of 5 min and then, you cannot see anything

Although the weather forecast said the weather would be beautiful on Le Maido, we were disheartened to find the clouds had gathered by the time we left (much later than planned) and we made our way upwards through increasingly thick mist, wondering whether we were being very stupid to continue. However the beautiful forests kept us going through the hairpin... More

I've not been there in other moment of the day, but I felt that witnessing the sunrise was spectacular, astonishing, overwhelming. The view makes you feel alive.

It's not often that you get to peer down into an ancient volcanic crater. Even less often that the base of the crater has little villages providing character and ambience. Best seen early in the morning, this is a viewpoint that you should not miss. The lighting is probably better in the afternoon, but beware the clouds. By 10AM, the... More
