We visited as part of our city walking tour. We climbed the stairs up to the veranda, but apart from some old ramshackle vehicles there is nothing to see. Maybe I don't understand the history, but it looks to me like they should either keep it maintained as a monument to the past, or knock it down.

It is a long time since we visited this site. The building is the oldest in Windhoek and was built as a fort with an imposing entrance and commanding view of the city. It is interesting, but when we were there the number of exhibits was very limited and the building needed some attention. It is not well publicised and we understand that it was unfortunately very short of funds and support. It is overshadowed by the imposing and modern Independence Museum nearby. We felt it sad that the historical site appeared to be overlooked in favour of the newer facility, when with some careful thought it could be linked to it.
