We are on our honeymoon in Mozambique, and while we enjoy the 5 stars hotels and exclusive resorts a lot, we really wanted to visit "the real thing" as well. We recommend this tour to all of you who have some spare time to spend in Maputo. The guide is so friendly and interesting, it was great to have the... More

Our guide was called Nery. He spoke excellent English, was very knowledgeable (he was born and brought up in the bairro). He was also just a really nice guy and totally committed to the wellbeing of his area. The trip round was a gentle stroll with frequent stops for detailed explanations. It included a stop at the local school and... More

This walking tour was very intimate and pretty immersive. I was the only one on this tour so it was exceptionally intimate. Samuel, my tour guide, seemed very knowledgable about the history of Mafalala and I was thoroughly informed. Maybe it was the jetlag, but it was probably a bit too long for just one person (3 hours?) so I... More

Ivan was our guide and incredibly knowledgeable about the history and multiple cultures of Mafalala. Such an open and friendly atmosphere in the side streets and back streets of this community. So many stories and a range of homes and styles of architecture. Thoroughly recommend this tour and the work of the organization.

Very informative walking tour of 3 hours in the Mafalala district of Maputo, where a part of the city's black community have lived, from well before independence. If you want to escape tourist hotels for a more complete view of the city's history, this is highly recommended.

Well run, interesting and informative, with a musical interlude. A great slice of Mozambique history. Run by a local charity, Highly recommended. The only downside is that it can be a little tricky to find.

Great walking tour of Mafala by Inverca, a youth led NGO to improve the lives of people living in Mafalala and keep their heritage and culture alive. A different side of Maputu - arpartheid, poetry, traditional dancing, literature, politics and famous footballers. Really recommended. Nary was my guide and spoke English brilliantly.

Mafalala walking tour by Iverca Associação. In the tour, we learned about the rich culture diversity living harmoniously, the past struggles with apartheid, the present high unemployment challenges in Mafalala. We also walked to a local primary school, Escola Primaria Unidade 23, where we saw the setup of the school and how schooling is compulsory. The Solar lighting ( water... More

I would really recommend taking this tour if you want to move away from the fancy streets of Maputo and go and see the other side. I have lived in Maputo for over 9 years and I really enjoyed it. Extremely interesting and done in an informal way and leisurely way. It is not about the amount of places you... More

Ivan picked us up from our hotel, and we spent the next 3 hours on one of the most interesting, and informative tours we have ever been on. After enjoying many of the rather expensive gastronomic delights of Maputo, a walk around this very poor area brings everything back into perspective. Ivan is an incredibly knowledgable tour guide and he... More
