About
Camissa which used to be at the Nucleo de Arte has moved to its new venue at the Feira Popular (next to Face 2 Face) in Maputo. We will continue to provide an artistic venue where live music events will take place on Fridays and sundays (and if there is visiting bands this could happen on other days)and a restaurant. Our art gallery and internet cafe are open and will shortly be opening a art and craft shop as well as starting other events such as poetry evenings and theatre evenings. Camissa will continue to be a relaxed place to come and enjoy good food, music and art (in whichever form it takes).

We went out for Sunday drinks and social and met some great locals, saw some great art and had some local beers. The band apparently is different each Sunday evening. We got there about 6:30pm. It was fusion jazz but great atmosphere. I would really recommend visiting.

The best thing about Café Camissa was always their music bands selection. You'll find some great musicians you've never heard about, and typical mozambican music like marrabenta, local reggae songstas and oldies of the Maputo music scene!

We went to Núcleo de Arte daytime to see the arts, and recommended by local about the party on Sunday evening.

Sunday evening party was great. It started early, music was African tune but Portuguese, and very good mixed crowd, locals, tourists and NGO workers.

I enjoyed their Sunday party a lot. Also after the party, it was easy to get cab in front of the bar.

If there is any chance to go to Maputo on Sunday, definitely I will go Núcleo de Arte evening party.

With some time to fill in, friends & I dropped by the artists’ co-operative late one afternoon/early evening. Unfortunately there was not a great deal to see as the main room was being set up for a new exhibition and the bar not open. However, there were a number of artists in residence, a few working, as well as small group who were socialising; everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming.

I thoroughly enjoyed wandering about, studying the artworks in progress, plus those on display and catalogued for sale in a smaller room off the courtyard. One artist accompanied us to the display, taking some of his own work from a storeroom for us to see. The artworks were priced in U.S. dollars and not cheap; some extremely good.

If you are interested in art and artists, Nucleo de Arte is an interesting venue to visit.

More commonly known as Nucleo de Arte, this bar his usually full every Sunday evening with live music and a very bohemian atmosphere. With an art studio in the back its a good place to see many of Mozambique's up and coming artists at work. The bar is much more relaxed other nights of the week.

We stumbled on this place when staying in the Hotel Cardona which is only a five minute walk away. It comprises an art gallery and cafe bar. The gallery is given over to local modern artists and is free to enter. Some of the pictures showed great promise but they are not cheap, prices were all in US dollars. We visited on Sunday early evening and there was live music on in the cafe - we were told this is every Sunday and there was a small entrance fee . The place was heaving with people, mainly young but some older people as well and everyone was very friendlyl. It is clearly an in place in Maputo. The band was fantastic local musicians dressed in zoot suits apart from the lead saxaphone player who was dressed in local tribal costume. It provided a great end to our holiday to Mozambique and well worth visiting
