Been there took a photo and moved on. Seems a bit opulent considering the road and pavements have not been maintained in 30 years. Driveway filled with black SUV's while the rest of the population cycle and walk due to poverty. Next door is the Mausoleum of the past 2 presidents ... you get a free guided tour and asked to sign a visitors book.

I did admir the architectural design of this magnificent structure and truly changes the Lilongwe skyline. Its one of those 'must see' structures while you're there.

This building looks very opulent and impressive and totally out of place in such a poor country.

I asked permission from the guard to take a couple of photos from outside the perimeter and permission was given. Then another guard came and wanted to arrest me. I told him I was given permission by the guard. The first guard even agreed he gave me permission. The 2nd guard was not impressed and called me in for questioning. Eventually he let me go after making me apologise for my big sins. I think he just wanted me to give money but I did not. It is a very corrupt country and nothing surprises me.

Quite a strange thing, this enormous building in this enormously poor country.

Even though this is the people's parliament, making a photo of it is strictly forbidden.

But the irony here strikes twice! The parliament is build by China! The Chinese are supporting democracy! Wow.

This is a beautiful structure, but with all of the poverty in the area I feel that the money could have been spent in other ways.

The Chinese built this parliament using all Chinese labor. You can see the influence in the style of the building and hardware choices.

Have a look & walk around if you are interested in exploring new things visiting a new country. Could go inside if you get prior permission.
