If your idea of a (summer) beach is like the posts you see of Maldives, Bali and similar, than this is not for you.
It is originally a small fishing village, turned touristic. Do not expect any stars in services or cleanliness. You are in Africa.
I was there in the summer (Jun/Jul) and there is a raga party on Saturdays. You'll also see a lot of foreigners enjoying their weekend off as volunteer workers at shelters etc. You'll get a local taste of food surrounding. Do's and Dont's
- on your landing, buy an easy Malaria test (like a pregnancy test) at a pharmacy. If it is positive, do not panic, just go to a local klinik. They deal with these more than the your hospital (ie Europe) and have much more experience and medication.
- 3 rules for eating : if its not cooked, not pealed, dont eat it.
- only drink bottled water.
- take insect repellent with you for the room and for applying on self
- People are friendly, I've never experienced hostility. If you do not have a host to show you around better to travel with company.
- get ready for cold showers.
- need to carry cash, no banks etc.
- no need to be afraid, only aware ;)
It has been a nice experience for me and I will go again.

Kokrobite is an excellent break from the hustle and bustle of Accra - you will certainly feel more relaxed as soon as you arrive. However, the beach (like all of them in Greater Accra) is pretty littered with trash and waste - and the water is not known to be particularly hygienic, either. You should also use common sense and avoid walking the beach alone or at night - and leave all your valuables at home. Don't be deterred, it's probably the best greater accra beach option, but don't expect clean sand or crystalline water.

The last few years they have really stepped up to make sure the beach is clean- and it works. I love watching people on the beach- surfing, swimming and the local fishermen preparing their ships or returning home. several places on the beach that served food, Dizzie Lizzie and Big Millie to name a few.

First visit here was year 2000. Nothing has changed. Walk the beach, and see men woman and children squat and relieve themselves, only 2ft distance from you. They have done this for generations. Big Millie ( Wendy) must be making money for very little input. Returned, Big Miliies at Kokrobite beach2017 .Thinking after all these years it must have improved at least 90%/ .Still a very, very ,filthy place. Will not be returning 2027!
.Adjoining beach, unsafe, robbers, muggers, ,

I recently went to Ghana as a volunteer with some friends from college.

On our first full day we were taken to Big Millies', a lovely thatched hut overlooking the beach with the fresh breeze hitting us, which was lovely because we definitely were not used to that heat!

I remember looking out at the beach that first time absolutely amazed... It looks like something out of a movie; absolutely gorgeous. I've never seen a beach like this before.

I had the same feeling every single time we visited after that first day.

Kokrobite beach became my comfort. If we were taking an evening stroll along the beach I felt so thankful to be in such a beautiful place surrounded by beautiful people that are the Ghanaians, of course.

I can put my hand on my heart when I say that the Ghanain people are the friendliest people I've ever come across. Make a friend and you'll have one for life!

I had the time of my life in Ghana, and my absolute favourite place was right here, on Kokrobite beach.

The real problem with the beaches in Ghana, including Kokrobite Beach, is that the Atlantic Ocean is polluted with raw sewage and everything else. Otherwise, the coast would be so lovely with its white sand and coconut trees lining the beaches.

You will enter this beach by being flagged by young boys to please come to their beach vs the other nearby beach options. I usually take Pascal when I enter as he has proven to be trustworthy and attentive. You are scuttled to a car park where your car is "so called locked in" A strong wind could blow this down but my car has always remained safe. As a part of the car park there is a dressing room and Pascal brings us plastic chairs for a small fee. You use a bench for your table (no table cloth included) and you can order fish or lobster from sellers that walk by. Pascal or whomever you choose will prepare this meal for you or Pascal has even caught transportation to go an purchase food and bring it back to the beach for me (going to get the food takes a very very long time so order ahead). The beach and water is passable as far as cleanliness. One very bad thing is that folks will bring there dog here sometimes and let them roam without a chain. This can really infringe on others as the dogs will sometime run up on you. The owners will always tell you how their dogs do not bite but never the less it scares small children and some just don't want to be bothered with other peoples wet animal. Also you have to watch how far to the left you stroll down the beaten path because it can be dangerous territory as a visitor. Overall the beach is nice and i would recommend it to a friend.

I like this beach, a little more safe swimming here then other place in Ghana, kind of clean, enough shadow for the hot sun, safe with good sense, lovely children in the beach selling fruit, for any need and info ask Fred, close to the Big Milly he will help you..

The part of the beach I saw was deserted as it was just behind our Hotel.
The water was very rough and when we walked onto the water our feet started to sink into the sand so it felt dangerous to go in any further. No one was around and lots of debris on the beach.

Beaches in Accra are OK. But be careful. Lots of stuff laying around which is not ideal for children. I’m not saying they are not nice but standards are not what you might be used to. Also be aware that while the majority of Ghanaians are friendly and welcoming, some might see you as a source of money. My suggestion? Nice pool at the Labadi Beach Hotel and the Golden Tulip. I love Ghana and know it well. Perhaps for the casual visitor a hotel pool might be safer.
