I write this with a heavy heart. In April 2021 we booked a 4-day tour with added an extra day through TourRadar for December 2021. Over the months and days leading up to the tour, I spoke with Rashida through WhatsApp concerning the tour. The day before I arrived we spoke concerning airport pickup. On the arrival day, she picked up my group (2 adults and a teenager) and took us to our hotel in Accra as planned. After check-in in Accra, we were informed that the overnight portion of our tour to take place the next day had to be instead a day trip because she was unable to secure our hotel accommodations in Cape Coast. This was something that was not discussed with us prior to or agreed upon. We are now in a foreign country and it's presented to us like "this is what we are going to do like it or not". In essence, the dynamics of the entire tour changed at that moment.
We were told the road to the Volta region was "bumpy", no it was a bump, swerve to avoid a hole, sinkhole, pothole, no road, and off-road for more than 12 hours to and from. This caused members of the group to get car sick to the point of vomiting and required us to pull to the side of the highway. The hotel we finally checked into had no Wifi and every food option we requested on the menu they were out of, we didn't eat that night thank God we had our own snacks. Not to mention we were stopped frequently and physically searched by the police.
We did not see the WEB Dubois Center because it was closed on the day of the revised schedule. We did not see all the planned locations in Cape Coast (Assin Manso Slave Market and River) because instead of a 2-day adventure was changed into a day trip and we were being hurried through the to make sure the other attractions didn't close. We were actually told we were low on time because we requested the driver stop at a store so we could get snacks along the road. The day trip turned into 11 hours of driving on the road, 3 hours of actual site seeing. Not to mention the frequent police checks and speed bumps along the road.
We are avid travelers, we understand minor changes in itinerary but this was far more than that. Although Rashida and Zay were apologetic, there was an undertone that we should be grateful and why are we complaining. We discussed our pleasure, displeasure and recommendations on the day of our departure.
