Our family of 6, had an amazing time with Afia Tours in Ghana. Our group ranged in ages from 26 to 88. This was my 88-year-old father's dream trip and Afia Tours made it a memorable experience. Petra was organized, efficient and detail oriented. Our flights were canceled multiple times and each time she worked with us to rearrange our itinerary. She also assisted us in getting Covid tested to return to the US. Kojo, our driver, was extremely skilled in navigating every road in every city we visited. He kept us on time and more importantly, he kept us safe. The amazing part is that he did it all while driving a stick and with a great sense of humor. Ata, our guide, was the ultimate professional. He was a wealth of knowledge, and was able to answer any and all questions regarding the history of Ghana. He anticipated our needs, was patient with my father and made as many bathroom breaks as we needed. The W.E.B. DuBois museum was unexpectedly closed when we arrived. Knowing how much my father wanted to experience the museum, Ata worked tirelessly to make arrangements to have the museum open. Because he is so well known and respected, he was able to get the museum to open and we had a great visit. We were blessed to be able to take this trip as a family. My father had all 3 of his children there as well as 2 of his grandchildren. Petra, Kojo and Ata were amazing and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

I wanted to check out the history of Ghana, and Petra was very responsive, positive, and helpful in designing an itinerary to make the most of my 10 days in Ghana. She suggested flying up to Tamale and meeting my guide there (which I was thankful for- it was a cheap flight that they arranged and it saved me a 12 hour car ride). Over there we checked out the Wulugu Mosque, Larabanga Mosque, and Mole National Park over a period of 2 days before travelling south to Kumasi for 1-2 days, then Cape Coast and onwards to Accra. It was clear that they had a good relationship with all of the hotels they partner with (I feel like I got nicer than normal rooms, but even if I just got normal rooms the picked great hotels with good working AC- WiFi was sometimes spotty but that’s to be expected in the more off the beaten path areas). Each day was filled with just enough activity to feel like you’re doing something but not so much so that I was exhausted (the heat and humidity will get to you- by 1-3pm you’re done for the day haha). Michael was a great driver and guide and new so much information about Ghana despite not being the main tour guide (at each site they have an appointed guide they work with). My guide driver arranged for me to have some pillowcases custom made which I greatly appreciated. A couple pro tips for anyone planning a tour (especially as Ghana is open for tourism!): the village visit had a tasty lunch but it did give me stomach issues (I do have a sensitive stomach though), so for future travellers I may just advise being careful with what you eat there, or eating ahead of time. If you’re short on time I may skip it as well as it takes a while to get to, however it is a cultural experience so if you’re into unique experiences or photography then you may want to include it. If it is hot, the Elimina and Jamestown tours could be done from a car- while there is something to be said about walking around the areas, a lot of the stops are seen from the road and it may save some time if you’re in a rush. If the weather is nice though, a walk around may be okay just remember to wear a face mask as always. Overall would definitely reccomend Afia Tours and would travel with them again. I felt safe, secure, entertained, and not stressed. Payment was easy.

This tour was everything, from the transportation to the experiences. The guides Josh and Appiah were very passionate and knowledgeable. I am so glad we did this tour and so glad we did it with them. Another great thing about this tour is that it gives back to the village you visit. The company communicates well before the tour even begins, everything ran smoothly. I highly recommend.

Joshua and Appiah were amazing tour guides. They told amazing stories and were very knowledgeable about the great history of Ghana. I would recommend anyone to book this fantastic tour with a great company. We felt very safe with them looking out for us throughout our days with them. We had a slight hiccup at the beginning of our tour and the owner was right there to smooth everything out and we really appreciated that personal touch. After the tour was over Joshua was still there willing to help with suggestions on where to eat, what to do and what to try in Ghana you can tell he takes great pride in his home land and is very ginuwine in his desire for you to have a great experience while in Ghana. We went to the Kakum National Park Canopy walk which was gorgeous and exciting. The slave river site at Assin Manso was deeply emotional and Joshua did a wonderful job of relating the history of the river and the Royal lineage. The Cape coast castle is obviously a must and we even got to meet Joshua's mentor Sebastian and receive more of the lands rich history. I could go on and on but let me end by saying I highly recommend Afia tours and our amazing guides Joshua and Appiah.

Myself and 5 others signed up for the Cape Coast and Kakum tour. Communication was ALWAYS above par, itinerary was exactly as described, and it was one of the most affordable tours we were able to find. THE BEST PART was the knowledge and experience of our guides! Both guides were extremely knowledgeable and really went above and beyond to give us a once in a life time experience. We didn't have to worry about transportation, entrance fees, lodging...anything. Our tour was extremely well planned and thought out. Meeting village elders, spending time with the children, being able to see and learn about the histories of our ancestors during our Cape Coast tour was nothing short of amazing and unforgettable. I feel SO BLESSED to have had found Afia Tours and for our guides. I feel like we were old friends reuniting and by the time our tour was over, we were family. It was clear and evident that these gentlemen had a PASSION and love for the country as well as the continent.
