With the considered and helpful knowledge of Petra at Afia Tours, we prepared a DIY itinerary which met our specific sight seeing and accommodation requirements. We covered a lot of ground in 10 days with our accommodating driver/companion, Emmanuel, who was reliable and courteous throughout our trip. This was all organised via phone and email and paid for over the internet. To assure us of the legitimacy of our transaction, Enock, the owner of Afia Tours, met us at our hotel at 6am to greet us and introduce us to Emmanuel before we set off on our Ghana adventure. We had no regrets working with Afia Tours and highly recommend them. We had a unique, insightful, enjoyable, unforgettable holiday in Ghana. Tracy & Mike

Afia tours designed an 8-day cultural experience for us five women. Our tour included many must-see stops in Kumasi, Accra, Elmina, and Cape Coast. Our tour guide Cosmos (Ata), was knowledgeable and well-respected by everyone we encountered. Our driver Seth was the ultimate professional who kept us safe on the roads from beginning to end. We even had a bonus intern, Ivy, who was great at interceding for us at the markets with vendors, and she also chronicled our tour by taking some fantastic photos. I highly recommend Afia Tours for large and small groups, and I look forward to bringing back another larger group next year.

Without expectation, Afia Tours provided our itinerary in Accra and Elmina and we were very happy with the results. It was easy to talk to Petra when we wanted to modify our schedule thank you Petra. Our trip in Accra included a tours of Jamestown, Arts Centre, and WEB Dubios center. Accra was a bustling city where there is always something to do, see and enjoy. Also to mention our driver, Kojo was very knowledgeable on everything Ghana.

After Accra we went to Elmina. In Elmina Afia Toura arranged for us to go to the Cape Coast Slave Castles, Assin Slave River, and The Village of Enocks Family (The Owner of Afia Tours). There was so much history. This part of the trip was a mix of relaxation, spiritual, emotional and calming. My favorite part was visiting Enocks village and learning the rich history!

Thank you Afia Tours. ☺️

I cannot praise Afia Tours (and especially Petra) enough! They are one of the most professional travel companies that I have ever dealt with, from start to finish. We had planned our trip for 2020, and then Covid came along. Petra immediately offered to return our deposit, but I asked her to keep it as we had every intention of travelling. We finally made it this month, and I am so glad we did. Petra was amazing - there was an immediate and comprehensive answer to each and every one of my many questions. While we were travelling we had an issue which was not in any way related to Afia Tours, however, after talking to Petra, everything was dealt with in the best possible way within 30 minutes. Petra and Afia Tours really are amazing.
We spent 10 days travelling in Ghana with Emmanuel, who was an exceptional driver, polite, attentive and courteous, and always willing to help. We then spent five days in Togo and Benin, with our local French-speaking guide, Valentine. He was an absolute pleasure and shared so much knowledge with us.
In short, Afia Tours is quite exceptional and I can't imagine what our trip would have been like if we had not used their services. I could go on and on praising them, but I won't. I'll just say that they are quite simply the best. Travel through West Africa with them - you won't regret it!

David at Afia Tours was a fantastic guide on our trips to Shai Hills, Cape Coast and Kakum National Park. He was incredibly well informed on the history of the places we visited, happy to answer all our questions and make stops en route for interesting things we saw along the way. The sites were breathtakingly beautiful and I’m so grateful to have had David as our guide as he managed to even time our visits to perfectly suit the weather (I’m not joking - I don’t know how he did it!)
I would thoroughly recommend Afia Tours, and do ask for for David as your guide if you have the chance!

We visited Ghana from November to December and had a wonderful time thanks to Afia Tours. We created our own tour, based on the "7 Day Back to the Roots" tour, for the Year of Return and Afia did a great job accommodating our changes and wishes. Our tour guide was Appiah and we couldn't have asked for anyone more patient and flexible. He was very knowledgeable and remained professional as we constantly complained about the heat in Ghana hahaha. The most memorable activities were the Canopy Walk, cultural performance, Elmina tour, and traditional cooking class. It's a must do if you plan to go to Ghana with Afia.

I was a party of two, and for our first trip in a long time that didn't evolve around lounging on a Caribbean beach having our wishes fulfilled at every turn like the spoiled American city folk we are, we couldn't have asked for a better experience with Afia! Our minds, emotions, and physical strength was challenged in Ghana and it was so rewarding.

If you're American, living on the eastcoast - I'd definitely suggest you take advantage of the straight flights from IAD to Ghana, book with Afia, let go of expectation, and have a great time!

I can’t say enough good things about Afia Tours! Enock, Petra and their team was extremely accommodating. My sister lost her passport at the airport in Accra and Afia Tours went above and beyond to help us. In addition, several plans had to be changed due to this unfortunate event. However, Enock and his team always maintained a high level of professionalism and ensured we were in good hands from start to finish. I would HIGHLY recommend Afia Tours, if you plan to visit Ghana and other areas in Africa. They have an amazing team and a portion of their profits goes back into the community (amazing). If you are looking to experience Ghana with a group of highly qualified individuals, Afia Tours is the best. I have traveled all over the world and can tell you with confidence, that their service is no less than 5 stars!

What an amazing experience with Afia Tours. This was my first time to Africa and I decided to make Ghana my first country to visit. I split my time between Accra and Cape Coast. During my time in the cape coast area, Afia Tours provided a wonderful tour.

First, let me acknowledge Petra! She was so friendly and easy to work with to plan the tour exactly how I envisioned it. I had several requests and she was able to execute on all. Her communication was quick and efficient which was great since everything was planned via email. I actually was able to meet her in Accra and she was just as sweet in person.

Now, on to our tour guide, Michael. I cannot begin to tell you all how Michael made this such a wonderful, unforgettable experience. He was funny, patient and very knowledgeable with us. I remember asking to play music on the van and I saw his head nod a couple of times as we sang Cardi B - so much fun. During the three hour-ish car ride from Accra to our destination, my friends and I asked so many questions and I’m glad he was there to answer them. It made the drive that much more interesting.

I cannot forget about our driver, Enock. He had such a warm personality and was also our “personal photographer” on the events he joined us on. He and Michael felt like family.

Then there’s Enock, the owner of the company. We didn’t engage with Enock as much, but we spent time with him during the village tour and he was very welcoming, kind and knowledgeable. He is passionate about his mission to make a difference and it shows through everything he does. I really enjoyed learning about his home village and meeting his family.

The overall tour was so powerful to me, an African American woman in America, looking to explore her roots. It was empowering, informative and really opened my eyes to things I never perceived before. It was emotional (in a good way) to see the slave river and the slave castle and really dig into its history. You really have an opportunity to learn about all the things you don’t have a chance to learn in high school history classes. You get the opportunity to be so close to what our ancestors had to endure - it’s no longer a picture in some textbook. My friends and I were all touched by what we saw, what we learned and just, wow.

We also toured the village and what an amazing experience! Once officially welcomed in, I ditched my born name and became “Akua” my Ghanaian day name because I was born on a Wednesday. Everyone was really nice to us as we had lunch and explored the vegetation life there. Once again, an eye opening experience that I will never forget. All of that was followed by a culture performance by the children. We made a school supply donation as well which felt great.

I also had the opportunity to do a batiking workshop, which is a way that fabric is designed. It was so much fun selecting and completing the design on a piece of fabric that I got to keep. I’m planning to make it into a blanket eventually. While the girls were batiking, the guys completed a cooking workshop and even made enough for us. It was so good.

Lastly, the coconut grove resort was so beautiful, peaceful and right on the beach. We had breakfast watching the waves roll in, so peaceful. I cannot wait to revisit that
resort.

Planning was easy, pick up from the airport was perfect, our 10 day tour was exactly what we wanted, our tour guide was the best we have ever had, and even our 4 year old had the best time! I contacted Afia after seeing the good reviews on Trip Advisor and from our very first email exchange, I knew we would be selecting them for our travel. Pre-trip arrangements were easy - Petra put together a great itinerary starting in Accra and then going to the Volta region. We then traveled to Kumasi and finally to the Cape Coast. She selected unique boutique hotels just like we requested. Upon our arrival, our driver/tour guide Michael was there and was with us the entire trip. He was the perfect travel companion and guide - super nice, knowledgeable, honest, flexible, and loved children.
Afia tours designed the ideal trip. Every step of the way, I felt like they were going above and beyond to accommodate us. When we requested a few specific items to buy in Ghana, they called around to see where we could purchase them. The shopping was something we weren't used to as most tour guides take you to shops/markets stalls where they financially benefit. Michael took us out when we requested to hear local music. He took us to local restaurants and not just tourist places. He even accompanied us when hiking. One of the highlights of the trip was our visit to the village of the company's founder. We didn't know what to expect but we had a truly remarkable experience interacting with the children and elders and had a terrific meal prepared by the women.
We will definitely visit Ghana and the region again and when we do, we will use Afia Tours and request Michael again.
