Beautiful site just to reflect on our past!! Be careful trying to cross the main road getting to this site but overall a beautiful site. At the moment I was there the grounds was not taken care of (grass very high and they was cleaning up) On site there was a great tour guide/ security guard and he helped us take out amazing pictures and we went to the roof to the Black star. Great site . You can spend like 10 to 20 mins taking pictures. Nothing else there. Enjoy

Spent an hour here wandering around the large park and square, also taking a trip up the Black Star Gate, with great views at the top.
A local tour guide gave us a quick history behind Ghanaian independence, the Black Star and the reason behind the square, was interesting.
Worth having a look, and on a good day the views are nice.

I was happy to see it, but the best thing was the beach on the side. The beach is beautiful in its natural state. My driver gave a guard some cedis and he let us walk down to the beach. The beach is the hidden gem behind the monument.
Ghanian people are very proud of Independence Square, I was happy to share in their experience.

This square signifies the freedom of Ghana from the British rule. Yes, the British rule, which was in 1957. Ghana prides itself on being free from the British and creating its own identity. This location is symbolic of that. There is a good tour guide to use for tours and history of this location. His name is Edem K via GuruWalk. Please check him out and he does it completely free.

One of the few places that offer good photo opportunities in Accra. It won’t take much of your time, but it’s a must-see if you are in Ghanaian capital. And usually pretty much deserted, so apart from a few security guards, the chances are, you’ll have the place for yourself.

Visited here in August 2019. I didn't climb to the top as there was a fee. Took photos in the square like all other tourists. There isn't much else to do here.
