Read up before you visit, great to take photographs, Short walk to beach, national sport stadium where various events are held. Across the busy road is Kwame Nkrumah memorial park and museum. If in need of snack walk towards the beach where vendors ell these.

Good place to walk around and see Ghana history in its flesh. The area that this is situated in is quite busy but my friend and I walked around and tried to get a glimpse of the history in Accra. There is no wonderful spectacular thing and it is free to check out.

Reminded me a lot of the Paris landmark except not as large since you can’t drive through it and there’s lots of trash in the streets and vendors hawking souvenirs. Even the view from the top isn’t that spectacular since Ghana doesn’t really have a skyline or it’s not in plain view. Nevertheless, it’s a must do to hear about the history of Ghana and the significance of both the arch and the Black Star.

While I wouldn't label this as a MUST-SEE, it was still rather pleasant. Driving around the gate will get you enough for a quick history lesson and photo, but if you're so inclined as to walk up to it then be sure to climb the stairs to the top. While the view is nothing breathtaking, it is still rather enjoyable.

This is an entrance to the independence square. The gate is quiet high and fairly wide. There are some distinct and very elaborate designs. To the left there's a small garden good for pictures and to the right a small water fountain. In front extending to the left is a vast open arena. Some stage for dignitaries when there are special events and rows of benches too. Lots of people milling around. Tourists and locals mingle here.

Something that will have significance ONLY if you have reread a little of the history of the country. And of the readily available guide boos on the country will supply the necessary background. I recommend the Brant Guide.

The city view from the top of the gate and the story that comes with it, that explains the black star and the meaning behind the colors or the Ghana flag 🇬🇭.

Magnificent!!
And mostly of all, the meaning and the reason of this monument!
6 of March 1957!
“Freedom and Justice at independence meant that all Ghanaians – men, women, old and young – have the right to enjoy life, liberty and the opportunity to pursue happiness as they chose and within the laws of Ghana!”

This is good for a photo op, but there is not much to do down in that area. We Ubered down on our last day as we had some time.

Please is there an entrance fee or some sort of tourist fee in order to gain an experience at the Black star and independence square. If so, how much?
Written December 29, 2019
The visit of Independence square is free of charge.
The entrance in the Black Star is also free but you tip the guy who is on the top and is great!
