I found Fatou tours on the internet when considering a holiday in the Gambia. I had email contact in advance and after some quick correspondence we agreed on a program to our wishes: a mix of birdwatching, enjoying nature and some culture. My wife and I bought a relatively cheap 3 weeks package deal in a Kololi hotel with a travel agency with: a small week relaxing in the beach/hotel with every other day a day trip with Fatou tours, a 9 days trip short into Senegal and deep into Gambia with them and then another small week like the first week (so not using our hotel part of the time, but this was still the cheapest solution for us).
With only 5 stars reviews the expectations were high, but even then they were surpassed! Although we met Fatou, we had her business partner Foday Bojang as our guide all the time and he did perfect. The trip was organised very well, he was always on time and solved any problem that occurred on the way. As a bird guide he can not be surpassed. He knows all the 600 bird species in Gambia and can distinct them at glance: female, male or juvenile with their calls. He can imitate many bird sounds and often get answers from birds that come closer and closer. He sees birds when driving the car where we (not unexperienced) had to look twice after knowing where they were. As he is using a camera himself, he takes care of good positioning for pictures, always giving priority to his clients. He keeps on searching untill the last minute. Except for birds he also knows all monkeys, many butterflies, dragonflies, reptiles etc. Apart from already bookes accomodation he is flexible in the program and open for wishes or feedback. On top of that he is pleasant and polite company. We had a fantastic time and if we come back to Gambia will surely book trips with Fatou tours again.

It was my first time in Gambia and I had chosen Fatou Tours for my 12 day individual birding tour and at the end my expectations were completely fulfilled. I found Fatou Tours via internet search and communication was very easy and friendly. All my questions were answered quickly. Everything was organized very well, from the pick-up at the airport, lodges/accommodations, food and birding spots until my return. My main focus was photographing birds and I need to say a big thank you to my guide Foday. He has a big knowledge about the birds and where to find them. He was always struggled in my needs as photographer and he did an excellent job. All visited lodges had good fixture and were wonderful for birding. My favorites were Riverside Lodge and Tendaba Camp. The food was in each accommodation very tasty and my favorite was chicken domoda with onion sauce. For lunch we had often this lovely sandwiches, where I cannot remember the name. At the end I had seen more than 230 different bird species and photographed almost 200. I recommend Fatou Tours to all birders, bird interests and bird photographers. The next time I will do a combined birding tour Senegal/Gambia and I definitely select Fatour Tours and Foday again. Gambia is wonderful country with a lovely landscape and friendly people. Even if you are not interested in birds, go and visit it :-)

A day full of birds

After some relaxing days at the pool I decided to do some birding and choose Fatou Tours Gambia and that was obviously the right choice. Fatou herself did pick me up at 08.00 am at my hotel Seaview, the drive to Kotu Creek did take only some minutes. During the boat trip of one hour I did take nearly 500 pictures !!!!!! With the malachite, the pied, the giant, woodland and the blue breasted I did see 5 from the 9 kingfishers , fantastic !! Fatou told me even all kingfishers have been seen in this creek. Also lots of egrets, herons, cormorants, kites, and other birds like the sacred ibis and the bee-eaters. After the boat trip we did do a short walk to see the pearl spotted owlet, and yes : he was waiting for us , so that I could take great pics !!!! After Kotu we did drive to Brufut Woods, about 35 minutes. We had the luck to meet there the forest guide and during the walk with him we did see the black shouldered kite, the red necked falcon and the nightjar and this last one was a real surprise !!!!!! Picnic at Brufut Woods, and then again birding in Brufut until it was time to drive back to Senegambia. A great day with lots of birds and lots of stories about birds, Fatou Senghore is indeed a great guide. When corona is less I certainly go back to The Gambia and his birds and his sun and will do probably a longer tour ( inland) with fatou tours gambia.

5 day trip to Georgetown

Did do a 5 days trip with fatou tours gambia and that was a great experience. Picked up at our hotel in Senegambia, on the first day we did drive to Bintang Bolong, stopping a lot of times for birding. At noon we did do a picnic, you can say ,,between the birds”. After a great drive we arrived at Bintang Bolong Lodge and that was another great surprise : with rooms above the water, we had a fantastic view, while the kingfishers all the time were flying close to our rooms. Early breakfast and early start on day 2, direction Tendaba. Again hours of birding, and along the road constantly the typical compounds and enthousiastic children. Close to Tendaba another great birding spot, called the airfield. For dinner , we could choose between a buffet or the menu-card.Day 3 started with a magnificent boat trip into the mangroves, with off course a lot of birds : fantastic. Waterbirds before noon, forest birds in the afternoon, also from in the hide close to our room. Day 4 : direction Georgetown, the city with the 3 names : Georgetown, Janjanbureh and Maccarthy Island. In the afternoon did do boat trip to see the chimpansees, a unique experience. Day 5 , another fun boat trip and then drive back to Senegambia, again all the time birding. With Foday Bojang and Fatou Senghore we had 2 experienced birding guides, so we did see a lot of birds , much more than we expected. Also all the others things - car, lodges, food - were perfect, so next time when we are in The Gambia we certainly will do a new trip with this company again.

Just returned from The Gambia. Found Fatou Tours after being approached by their guide, Foday Bojang, on our first night out near to our hotel (Senegambia). No hard sell just wanted to give us information about their birdwatching tours. Really nice with a professional manner. Eventually booked three tours at their office, which was air conditioned, near Sarge’s hotel.
First tour was with Fatou herself who is the owner - Lamin Lodge followed by Abuko National Park. At Lamin we had coffee and biscuits at the start, then breakfast, after the boat ride, which was great. We saw Goliath heron, pied &malachite kingfishers, numerous other birds. At Abuko we had a walk followed by birdwatching from the hide to watch the crocodiles. Plenty of birds with coffee and Oreo’s. Brilliant.
The second tour was to Farasutu forest then Pirang forest with Foday, who like Fatou really new his birds. Plenty to see including various owls and Guinea baboons. Whilst watching, numerous small birds at a water hole we had breakfast. Very relaxing. We had lunch later at Pirang. We were out from really early morning until teatime, so both long days but really good for birdwatching. 110 different birds seen on these two tours.
The third tour was to Kotu Creek followed by a walk. Fatou then took us to Calypso Bar to watch the crocodile pool which has numerous birds coming in for a drink. All the tours were professionally organised and really enjoyable. I even bought a mug with their name on. I would recommend Fatou Tours for birdwatching.

15 days fun birding

My first birding trip to Gambia was a fun experience. Fatou Tours Gambia organized everything except the flight and the personal insurance, and organized it perfectly. The first 5 days we stayed in our hotel at Senegambia ( the Metzy) - for birding around Banjul. Kotu Creek, Brufut, Tanji, Kartong, Farasutu, Pirang : we visited all the wellknown birding places, and during the driving we stopped very often for more birding. Then we did drive inland : first 2 nights at Tendaba Camp, then 2 nights at Georgetown. Really great were the boat trips in each place. Then we did go to Senegal : campement Wassadou - again great boat trip - and the national park Niokola Koba. After another stay in Georgetown we did take the small ferry to the north bank, with losing at Morgan Kunda. Driving back to the south bank did bring us a second time in Tendaba Camp, our last night was at the magnificent Bintang Bolong lodge. During the last day we could keep on birding till noon, then it was time to drive back to the airport.Great trip, more than 300 different birds, 4 amazing boat trips, great lodges , and with fatou senghore and Foddy Bojang also great and experienced guides who arranged 24/7 everything. Thanks Fatou Tours Gambia

We had a very nice experience with Fatou Tours Gambia. We saw her office at Senegambia and in one day they manage to arrange a very complete tour to the Baboon Island. We saw a lot of animals; red and green monkey, chimpanzees and hippopotamus. The hotel were we stay was also nice and the food was delicious. On top of that our guide Yankuba was very professional, friendly and reliable. We even saw the prehistoric Wassu rocks. I would always recommend Fatou Tours Gambia and thank you very much for the experience.
